Biden's Remarks About 'National Security' Are Infuriating and Blatantly False

Speaking at the White House Wednesday morning about the foreign aid supplemental bill just passed by Congress, Joe Biden took a victory lap. Hyping up the billions of dollars for Ukraine aid, Biden said fresh munitions and equipment would be shipped to Europe within hours. What he didn't say is anything about what he's doing to make lives better for Americans struggling under inflation that surged to 40-year highs and continues to spike, how he'll work to re-secure America's borders, or why his version of "democracy" is antithetical to the word's very definition as he tries at every turn to get away with unconstitutional, undemocratic policies. Instead, he peddled more partisan spin in hopes of securing re-election and painted a picture of his leadership that simply does not pass muster.

Preferring to focus mostly on the taxpayer-funded aid headed to Ukraine, Biden eventually got around to mentioning the aid also being sent to resupply Israel's air defenses. Even then, Biden emphasized how the supplemental package "significantly increases humanitarian assistance" to residents in the Gaza Strip — a not-so-subtle nod to the voters in Michigan and elsewhere he's trying to woo ahead of November. "This bill includes $1 billion for additional humanitarian aid in Gaza," Biden heralded.

Ignoring all the history of the enclave — including how Hamas has been stealing aid and attacking or killing residents seeking food — and the backlog of aid awaiting distribution that has nothing to do with Israel's efforts, Biden declared that "Israel must make sure all this aid reaches the Palestinians in Gaza without delay." The attempt to blame Israel for Hamas violence and theft of aid is gross, but on-brand for Biden as he faces the prospect of losing the votes of those who've been caught on camera chanting "Death to America."

Remember: Hamas started this war, and blame for everything that has followed lies with those barbarians.

After blundering his way through the state of play in Israel, Biden sought to claim broader credit for what he inexplicably thinks is a strong America leading the world. "This is a reminder of what America can do when we come together despite our differences," Biden lectured of the passage of the billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded aid. "History will remember this time," he said — presumably not meaning that history would remember how he bullied lawmakers into passing what he wanted by smearing them as agents of the Kremlin.

In a rather egregious refrain at the conclusion of his remarks — after which he again refused to take questions from reporters — Biden claimed "we don't walk away from our allies, we stand with them; we don't let tyrants win, we oppose them; we don't merely watch global events unfold, we shape them."

As Townhall has repeatedly noted, Biden has angered America's allies: earning a formal censure from U.K. parliament and watching as France recalled its ambassador to the U.S.

He has also literally walked away from America's allies by leaving U.S. citizens and those who helped American forces over two decades in Afghanistan behind in a Taliban hellhole. Biden's withdrawal let the Taliban win, all while calling the terrorists "businesslike and professional."

On the point he shapes global events, the only evidence available proves the opposite. He has repeatedly stood by and watched global events unfold after his aims and efforts burst into flames. Biden told Putin "don't" as Russia amassed forces along Ukraine's border. His deterrence failed, and his attempt to have China talk Moscow out of invading backfired spectacularly. Biden also told Iran "don't," then watched as the regime in Tehran — along with its terrorist proxies — did launch a massive volley at Israel.

The aid package Biden bragged about was dubbed by the White House as a "national security" supplemental. And while American national security does include what's going on beyond our shores — there are an awful lot of people chanting "death to America" out there — the legislation doesn't address or remedy the national security threats that members of the president's own cabinet are warning about.

If the years of open-border policies allowing unknown amounts of deadly drugs, weapons, and other contraband and individuals weren't alarming enough, the post-October 7 threats acknowledged by federal officials should have been a wake-up call for Biden. Even as border officials warned agents to be on the lookout for military-age males inspired by Hamas terrorists' barbaric attack seeking to slip into the U.S., Biden falsely denied there was anything he could do to secure the border.

More recently, FBI Director Christopher Wray escalated his previous warnings that all the warning lights preceding a potential attack in the homeland were flashing red. Now, as he's testified on Capitol Hill, he's ringing more alarm bells about the potential for an attack in the U.S. akin to the ISIS-claimed terrorist attack on a concert hall in Moscow earlier this year.

Even if Biden experienced a Fetterman-like road-to-Damascus conversion and closed the border today, it wouldn't end the threat posed by the millions of "known got-aways" and paroled illegal aliens already in the U.S. If Biden is serious about national security, he needs to do more than send money and tools to bolster our allies' security — he needs to at least lift a finger to enhance Americans security at home.
