Is the Threat of Democrats Taking Over Later a Reason to Tread Lightly Now?

It’s hard to believe we’re a year into the second Trump administration, but here we are. A year of virtually no illegal immigration, a year of fewer deaths from fentanyl, a year of declining violent crime in major cities like Memphis and Washington D.C., a year of Biden-era inflation finally beginning to come down, a year of putting America first in our dealings with foreign nations, a year of conservative policies making countless American lives better. It hasn’t been perfect, but hell, it’s been pretty damned good and infinitely better than the alternative.

But there’s another, more ominous countdown that lies at the back of all our minds. Less than one year from now, another Congress will be seated, one that could be run, at least in the House, by Democrats. And almost exactly three years from now, a new president will take office. In other words, the honeymoon is long over and it’s past time to start thinking about what things are going to look like in the all too quickly approaching future.

It’s easy to say - and I’ve heard plenty of people say it, including me on occasion - that the answer to a free and prosperous future for our country is to never allow Democrats to obtain power again. However, given the ebb and flow of politics, sentiments like that are unrealistic. The sad and scary truth of the matter is, no matter how good things are from our perspective, Democrats are going to win again, and probably sooner rather than later.

What will things look like when that happens? A not-so-subtle hint came last week with this conversation between Democrat strategist Jennifer Welch and leftist media figure Jim Acosta, who both agree that national reconciliation can only be obtained when Trump and Republicans who helped put his policies in place are prosecuted and jailed and leftist policies are enshrined by a packed Supreme Court that will rubber-stamp their tyranny.

In other words, everything they are whining and lying about us doing to them, they intend to do to us and then some, and they intend to game the system so they never lose again. So the answer, it would seem, at least according to a growing number of conservative influencers, is to double down, to, in the words of X account Aesthetica in a post that was retweeted by Elon Musk, “strike first and strike hard.”

Echoing similar thinking, filmmaker and conservative influencer Robby Starbuck had an ultra viral X post last week (by ultra viral, I mean 30 million views) calling on Trump to “invoke the insurrection act” and have the military arrest rioters and the politicians in blue states who enable them. He also called for ICE to triple its presence and deport as many illegals as possible. “Not one apology from the right for anything,” he wrote in the post. “For moderates who may feel uncomfortable by my prescribed course of action, consider that this is a binary choice because extremists only understand the language of power. Either you use it to draw lines or they will seize it and use it to hurt you.”

I do tend to agree with this line of reasoning, mainly because Democrats are going to do what leftists do when they obtain power, regardless of anything our side has done. There is nothing about playing nice that could help us, so we might as well play to win. I’ve used similar logic in the past about Republicans nuking the filibuster and forcing our agenda down their throats. We have nothing to lose, because Democrats are absolutely going to do that anyway when they regain the trifecta, and everything to gain because passing our agenda will help us keep winning.

Still, there’s also something to be said for choosing our battles and trying our best to make sure the optics don’t needlessly give the Democrats fuel. Do they need to be deported? Of course. Are there more tactful ways to ensure that happens other than some of what’s been done so far? In some high-profile instances, it sure seems like it. We should absolutely do everything that needs to be done without apology, but there’s nothing wrong with tightening up our optics and tactics to avoid giving leftists fodder to use against us. In fact, bringing in some overwhelming force in order to quickly deal with the violent rioters and accomplish the objective might be the best thing to quell the media news cycle long-term.

Whatever our side does, we should always try to avoid destroying the constitutional framework, as set out in the 10th Amendment, under which states find the legal justification to resist an overreaching federal government. Because there will certainly come a day when we will need the protection of red state governors to impede some insane federal policy that leftists try to push on us. I’m not saying to let these blue state governors get away with everything (dealing with illegal immigration IS a federal issue, after all). But I am saying we should tread lightly with states’ rights here because, mark my words, those are rights our side WILL appeal to someday.

Should the certainty of Democrats taking over someday be a reason for our side to tread lightly? No, but it absolutely should be a reason to tread more carefully than we have been so far.
