Defensive Gun Uses Far Outnumber Firearm Homicides, But Gun-Grabbers Still Want You Left Defenseless

When a drug dealer turned irate customer stormed into the kitchen of a Milwaukee George Webb restaurant last month and cold-cocked a waitress who had apparently fallen short of his lofty service expectations in some way, he was driven away by a quick-acting co-worker who immediately pulled her conceal-carry pistol out of her pocket.

Liberals, of course, hate this story and will avoid it at all costs. There’s a reason.

Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan, who obtained and released the surveillance video in hopes of catching the assailant, also commented on what “might have occurred” had the woman not been armed.

“It’s so frustrating to me as an elected official that the other waitress felt it so important that she arm herself to come and work in my aldermanic district,” Donovan said. “Yet, I thank God she was armed. Otherwise, I shudder to think what may have happened to those two women. One can only imagine what might have occurred if that employee had not pulled out her weapon.”

First of all, kudos not only go out to the hero co-worker who had her pistol ready to protect herself and others, but to the ownership of Milwaukee’s George Webb restaurant who reportedly allowed its employees to conceal carry in the first place. In today’s age of feckless, spineless corporate leadership to whom political correctness seems far more important than saving employee lives, their courage should not be unemphasized.

Thankfully, the data is on their - and our - side, and this is far from an outlier event. In an age where we’re told that firearm-related homicides are skyrocketing, we are actually experiencing a marked decline from a high point of seven per 100,000 people in 1993 to around half that. The Washington Post in 2015 noted the decline but attributed it to every possible factor, from the police using computers to an improving economy to lead removal, but leaves out the fact that the statistics exist despite more and more guns being produced and owned by Americans. They also conveniently leave out the hundreds of thousands of instances of defensive gun use.

Just how many times do Americans use weapons to defend themselves every year? It’s a tough number to nail down for a variety of reasons, but depending on the source it’s anywhere from upwards of 2 million per year to the Washington Post’s “more reasonable” (read: lowball) estimate of 100,000. But either way, it’s more than fair to say that more lives are saved by guns used in self-defense than are taken by the criminals who use them for nefarious purposes. And if you count homicides and not suicides, we’re talking about around 10,000 deaths per year, or one tenth of the Post’s lowball estimate.

“The safety and security of our employees and patrons is our top priority,” read part of the George Webb restaurant statement, and they clearly meant it. Because the George Webb restaurant ownership and the Milwaukee alderman have something in common - they are all normal, red-blooded, empathetic human beings with, you know -- souls.

Sadly, the same can’t be said for gun-grabbing liberals. I mean that metaphorically, of course, because I’m not God and I can only make my best guess based on the evidence I see. But when someone advocates anti-self defense policies that would gleefully allow the George Webb restaurant attacker to pummel both women into oblivion and generally wreak God knows how much unimpeded havoc, one can only conclude that there must be some sort of black hole where that person’s immortal soul would otherwise be.

Meanwhile, said soulless liberals and Walking Dead rejects march and openly confront Trump administration officials, mindlessly chanting phrases like “shame!” -- pretending to care about the children of illegal immigrants while the MS-13 members they are so desperate to bring in victimize the ordinary Americans they would love to see disarmed.

Maybe you’ll say such a characterization isn’t fair, that liberals are really “good people” despite the fact that their policies are so … bad. To which I would respond that liberals only have one supposed “value,” and it doesn’t have anything to do with espousing policies that maintain order and actually preserve lives.

Corner one, and they’ll likely claim they only want “reasonable” gun restrictions and say we are misrepresenting their position by insisting they are for total disarmament or against self defense. To which I would respond by asking what exactly David Hogg and other gun control activists have done, said or even tweeted to promote stories like what happened at George Webb restaurant.

What have they done, said or even tweeted to encourage citizens to get their obviously-life-saving conceal-carry permits, as the heroic restaurant worker did, and arm themselves even with what they would consider an appropriate-to-possess firearm?

That’s what I thought.
