Did Trump Lose the Presidency With This Debate?

I wrote a little over a week ago (here) that I believed that, with an outstanding debate performance on June 27, Donald Trump could be virtually assured of triumph in the presidential election in November.  If he showed himself calm, dignified, strong, and presidential, and avoided appearing as so many Americans have come to view him—boorish, bullying, arrogant, caustic, and narcissistic—then he would soothe the people and have a clear path to victory over an obviously failing, incompetent, and physically incapable Joe Biden.  I think this is exactly what happened in the debate.  If anything, Trump may have performed TOO well.

So far this year, Trump has run an outstanding campaign.  Whether it be because he has a group of wise handlers now who give him good advice, or whether he has, in his own wisdom, progressed to a higher level of intimacy with larger numbers of the American people, his campaign has made very few mistakes.  Of course, it hasn’t hurt that his opponent is clearly failing in all his faculties.  The Democrats have a serious problem right now, and they know it.  Part of it is a more dignified Trump preaching a populist, pro-American agenda that people want to hear.  Part of it is that their own far-left agenda is disastrous everywhere around the world and people across the globe are turning away from it in droves.   And part of it is Joe Biden.  The Democrats have a horrible candidate.   Biden couldn’t sell candy to a child.   Children run away from zombies.

Trump’s debate performance, with few exceptions, was excellent.  He was obviously far superior to Biden in every category—from energy, strength, policy positions, dignity—any measure one wishes to use, Trump won that debate.  And don’t forget, it was 3 to 1 against him.  The Democrats know Trump won, admitted it, and are in a panic about it.

And while there do exist countless Americans who are ready to turn the country into a left-wing, decadent, Marxist toilet bowl—nearly all of academia, the media, and Deep State want that—most Americans don’t appear ready yet to live in poverty in a third-rate banana republic.  Biden and the Democrats obviously crave that kind of America because that is what they have been trying to create the last three years (and even before Biden).  But thankfully, most of us have no desire to dwell in a sewer.

The most frightening thing about the debate is that, because Biden did so horribly, much of the post-debate, Democratic Party conversation was about replacing him and getting someone else at the top of the ticket.  Biden has absolutely no chance of winning another term as president.  This debate plainly showed America he is unfit for the job.  But, if the Democrats replace him, how will that affect the election?   Did Trump hurt his chances by knocking Biden out?

Dumping Biden won’t be easy.  He has all the primary delegates committed to him.  What legal way do they have of dispensing with him?  The only hope is that Joe can be swayed to voluntarily step down.  “Dr.” Jill is going to vehemently oppose that, and the arrogant, selfish, egotistic Biden will be even harder to convince.  Can the party heavyweights persuade him, for the good of the party, to go wander off somewhere and get lost?  That will be a challenge, and we’ll have to wait and see if they can do it or not.

In this debate, Donald Trump just might have knocked Joe Biden out of the race, i.e., off the Democratic Party ticket.  Of course, Biden actually did it himself, but Trump’s performance, by drawing a clarion contrast between the two men, surely helped.  The questions the Democrats have to face are not just 'is Biden capable of serving four more years' (which he clearly is not), but 'is he even capable of serving the next six months?'  If not, that would mean Kamala Harris; could they then deny her the nomination?  She is less popular than Biden.  These are severe problems the Democrats—and the country—are encountering.  Biden is president, the most powerful man in the world; he is utterly incompetent mentally.  He is a danger to the nation.  What can the Democratic Party do (if they even care about that)?  Look at the disaster they have created for America.

Regarding the election, could a new candidate (a Whitmer/Shapiro ticket to try to win Michigan and Pennsylvania?) save the Democrats and possibly lift them to victory in November?  And what should Trump’s strategy be in facing a new opponent?

The American electorate tends to have short memories.  If the Dems can dump Biden by, say, the end of July, America will have largely forgotten Biden as a candidate by September.  But (assuming) he will still be president, they won’t be able to forget that because they still must go to the grocery store and fill up their gas tanks.  If the Dems do put forth a new candidate, Trump would need to press the question, “Ok, what are you going to do differently from Biden?  It was Biden’s left-wing, Democratic Party policies that got America into the mess it is in right now, what is the new candidate going to do differently as president?”  The answer would obviously be, “nothing.”  Joe Biden represents the Democratic Party.  He is what they believe and want America to be.  If Trump can successfully tie New Candidate to Democratic policies, he’ll still win the election.

I believe the American people are as tired of Joe Biden as they are of what he has done to their country.  Whoever the Democrats run won’t be any better.  And that is what Trump will need to demonstrate.  Or he may have lost the presidency by winning this first debate.
