Less than three weeks away from the most important presidential election in American history, I’m still having conversations with conservatives who say they just wish we had a “better choice” come November 5th. Bothered by the name calling (Sleepy Joe, Cackling Kamala), or the indelicate manner in which former President Trump handles the press, there are still people wishing he would just act “more like Ronald Reagan.”

Without question, Ronald Reagan made the Republican Party proud and his winsome personality warms the cockles of our hearts to this very day.

A favorite response, when people share their displeasure about Trump’s rough edges with me is, “Well, you don’t have to invite him to dinner. We just need him to fix this country.” That is usually met with a raised eyebrow, a contemplative pause and a reply of: “Well, I guess you’re right.”

After some contemplation of my own, I have decided I will never say that again. The truth is, I would love to invite Donald Trump to dinner, or brunch if he preferred. No more apologizing, explaining, excusing or wincing when something Trump-like comes out of his mouth. The man is a legend in his own time. He willingly stepped into the lion’s den in 2015 and he has not had a moment’s rest from the barrage of insults, attacks, lies and lawsuits being hurled at him since. He has spent untold millions of his own money on campaigning as well as fending off fraudulent lawsuits. He’s been ridiculed, mischaracterized, misquoted, and shot. Not only does he get back up time and again; he raises a fist and yells, “Fight, fight, fight.” To this day, he is honeycombing the country to meet every kind of American, even going into enemy territory (aka: ultra blue Aurora, Colorado, where a serious Venezuelan gang has terrorized that community.) What’s more, he doesn’t do any of this begrudgingly or hesitantly. In fact, he’s forging ahead with gusto. All the while, he is demonstrating his love for this country and for her people.

Sure, Donald Trump has had marital trouble, moral failures and a rapier wit often mischaracterized by the legacy media as “hate speech.” But let’s relax the pearl clutching and remind ourselves that the who’s who list of former White House inhabitants is surprisingly bereft of a single commander in chief we would expect to calibrate our moral compasses.

The allegations legacy media have repeated incessantly against Donald Trump continue to be batted down by that tricky little thing we call the truth. The Russia hoax, debunked. The New York fraud case, berated by the court of appeals as a political maneuver from Democrats. The Stormy Daniels and E. Jean Carrol cases, equally fraught with problematic “witnesses” who can’t get their stories straight. The list could go on for hours, but you get the point. If there was a way to get this man in jail, he would be “orange man” in every sense of the word by now.

The bottom line is that I am proud to support Donald Trump for president. I do not wish for a different option. Who could withstand the intense heat this man has endured on our behalf? If you think a more genteel option, (let’s go with J.D. Vance whom everyone is now heralding for his politeness) would be treated more fairly by the Left, you’re not living in the real world. Even Midwestern-mannered J.D. wouldn’t be considered polite once he became the primary target.

In his first term as president, Trump brought about a safer, more prosperous America. He worked tirelessly to bring manufacturing jobs back to America and to make trade negotiations more balanced in favor of America’s economy. He got us to a place of energy independence. Under Trump, athletic boys had to play on boys’ teams (that would have sounded insane a few years ago) and children were not being surreptitiously told they live in the wrong body, leaving parents out of the discussion.

There were some slip ups, no question. He rolled into our nation’s capital believing that an “R” next to your name meant you were on Trump’s team. That miscalculation cost him key wins and portions of his popularity as some in his administration were never really on board.

In sharp and depressing contrast, President Joe Biden has matched Trump’s winning record but only in the number of days he’s spent asleep on the beach. It has become clear why he had to sign so many executive orders on Day 1…that was all he was going to do on the job. The other 1,459 days were for vacation. And yet, he has managed to take this country into a nose dive toward utter destruction.  He promised to Build Back Better and instead we have Tear Down Faster. No need to exhaustively remember all we have lost these past three and a half years, but Afghanistan comes to mind. So do the shocking millions of illegal immigrants he and his border czar/Vice President Kamala Harris welcomed into the country. How about the 300,000 plus unaccounted for migrant children?  Or the fact that most Americans have experienced a significant downgrade in their lifestyle due to ever rising insurance, gas and grocery prices.

The legacy media considers the Harris/Biden disasters and adopts a “nothing to see here, folks” coverup at every turn. But it has worked hard to get you to hate Donald Trump, and if you won’t hate him, they will settle for you being embarrassed by him.

How about in these final weeks of the 2024 campaign we ignore media jackals, wake up and realize that Donald J. Trump—though flawed like the rest of us—is the one man we should be proud to vote for and the man we should all issue a dinner invite to? Consider my invitation issued:  Mr. President, how do you like your steak?
