Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you notice something else the left-wing political con artists are trying to do to get their hands on your money. They already create false deadlines for a sense of urgency, and the lie that some rich donor is sitting there willing to make their money magically quadruple (but only if they give now, tomorrow is too late!), and now they’ve introduced the false sense of familiarity.
“Hey, Derek, it’s me, Laura. I hate to email you like this, but you’re one of our top Maryland supporters and I wanted you to know what’s happening,” this email from the Democratic Governors’ Association begins. Like I or anyone else knows who “Laura” is.
The Laura in question is someone called Laura Carlson, who is the “digital director” of the DGA, which one has to assume means she tweets and writes blog posts. Now she can add huckster for cash from suckers to her LinkedIn profile.
The subject line was “I’m worried.” Why should anyone give a damn that someone they’ve never heard of is worried about something that is a lie? I have no idea. I assume Democrats know how dumb their supporters are at this point and that this stuff works. Just like the inclusion of pictures in the email works.
It started with the Governors themselves – you name the radical left-wing Governor and the DGA has sent out an email “from” them with their picture being the first thing you see when you open it. I’m not sure who told the DGA that including a picture makes the moron reading believe the leftist in the picture actually wrote the email rather than having had some mid-level staffer sign off on it without their knowledge, but now the practice extends to nobodies too.

Open the email and there’s Laura Carlson with her white face staring back at you, glasses on to look smart, and head playfully cocked to the side. I searched her name to see if she was real, and she is. And judging by what I found, that is the best picture ever taken of her…by a lot.
Naturally, her Twitter bio included her pronouns, which I’m sure is a requirement for Democrats these days, and a peek into her future – “mostly tweets about cats.”
Now, back to what has her so worried (which surprisingly isn’t dying alone of toxoplasmosis and having her team of cats eats her body before it’s discovered). “Yesterday was the last end-of-quarter fundraising deadline before Election Day and we fell short of our goal. Please chip in $3 or whatever you can to help us bridge the gap. Every donation will be quadruple-matched and put to work immediately in the states.”
The deadline the DGA and every other group out there had been hyping for the last 2 weeks of September as being the most important deadline ever suddenly doesn’t matter, but that they didn’t reach their arbitrary goal on that day does? And where were these magic-rich guys ready to “quadruple-match” my donation before that deadline? If it was such an important deadline, maybe you should’ve called them before bothering me. They are, after all, filthy rich and ready to give WAY MORE than anyone else…at least, for the moment.
“Derek, failing to meet a major fundraising goal so close to Election Day worries me,” Laura whined. “Republicans are watching closely for any sign of weakness – and their megadonors are ready to cover the airwaves with millions in new attacks.”
I promise you the GOP is doing whatever it is they’re doing without any concern for what the DGA’s fundraising goals may or may not have been. She never says how much they “missed” their goal because they likely either didn’t have one or didn’t miss it. This is a play for suckers, plain and simple. How they live with themselves will never cease to amaze.
“So I’ve spoken with a group of donors, and they’ve agreed to QUADRUPLE-MATCH every donation up to our $75,000 goal to help us recover – but only for the next 72 hours. This is an extremely rare opportunity to bounce back, but it only works if supporters like you chip in,” the hard-press concludes. Why would they only give 3 days to reach this “goal” if they’re on the team? Why would they condition their donation on someone else’s, likely someone with a lot less money than they have?
The truth is they wouldn’t. These people don’t exist. Laura Carlson’s attempt to manipulate people is just that, and exactly what you should expect from Democrats: a lie. No matter how they pretend to be your friend, they are not. They want your money. And they’re willing to do damn near anything to get it.
