Note To Obama: Free Work Does Not A Job Make

For millions of Americans, a good job means the difference between keeping their home and family intact or facing a harsh winter ahead of a politically charged 2012. And despite his vaunted “jobs” bill, the President this week again showed he fundamentally doesn’t get it—in fact, he practically took an ad out to say as much.

The gaffe in question comes from the Obama campaign as they recently put out a request for designers to create posters. For free. To promote the President’s job bill.

Rolling Stone Magazine says it best:

“But the folks at Obama campaign have taken a page from the Arianna Huffington book of economic exploitation and called on "artists across the country" to create a poster ... for free.

And here's the kicker. It's a jobs poster.

Yes, the Obama campaign is soliciting unpaid labor to create a poster "illustrating why we support President Obama's plan to create jobs now, and why we'll re-elect him to continue fighting for jobs for the next four years”."

As the article notes, this is coming from the campaign that has already raised $60 million.

The President has dodged accusations throughout his term of being tone deaf or indifferent to the plight of those swept up in the rising unemployment, and this type of publicity sure doesn’t help that—especially when it is him begging for free help to keep himself from being unemployed.

It’s long been part of established wisdom that if you want someone to trust you on the big things, that you need to first prove yourself capable of handling smaller tasks. Lack of attention to details does not inspire confidence.

Even after taking bi-partisan rejections of his jobs bill, President Obama is still campaigning relentlessly asking Americans to trust him and get behind the bill he has proposed. For many discerning individuals who pay attention and understand market economics, the staggering amount of details that have been horribly handled to this point has ended any chance of trust for something as big as the jobs “stimulus” bill.

Those details include waging a regulatory war against business via job killing regulations flying through the stacked National Labor Relations Board and including seeking to shut down new Boeing airplane factories, raids on Gibson Guitar, EPA regulations that have the effect of immediately laying off thousands of people, and more.

At this point there is no way we want this President to put his hand any further at fixing the economy. It’s just been making it worse. By blocking the jobs bill from being voted on, its clear his own party feels the same way.
