News Avoidance Syndrome – VARIOUS OUTLETS

  • Funny, we do not see the same defenses of this outfit today, nor even basic reporting.

A few weeks back, when it was shown that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) had been using donations to fund activities of certain individuals and outfits they had listed as “hate groups”—including those behind the infamous Charlottesville rally—many in the press defended the group. Recall the claims that what they had actually been engaged in was funding confidential informants who were infiltrating the various groups to collect intel on their actions?

Welllllll…look at this new development.

One of the SPLC’s top officials was not only channeling money to an alleged member of a supremacist group, but she was also in a relationship with the individual who had been granted a total of over $1 million, as the two lived together and had joint bank accounts.

News Avoidance Syndrome – CNN

  • Saying mean things is far worse than attempted terror attacks.

CNN’s “extremism correspondent,” Donie O’Sullivan, is at it again—and by “at it,” we mean not doing his job. Donie was on site for the UFC event on Sunday, and was very bothered by the moment when one of the fighters gave a post-bout interview and had some caustic remarks about former First Lady Michele Obama.

Donie was upset by this and commented on how the sport allows for this type of crude commentary. Except that for him to make this declaration, he had to ignore that UFC President Dana White actually came out the day before with words decrying the remarks that were made.

Also of lesser concern for Donie is the news that the event had been targeted by a group wanting to use drones to exact some level of attack. That apparently is not considered “extreme” enough to warrant reporting.

Anti-Social Media – PUBLIC BROADCASTING SERVICE

  • We have to guess he was wishing harm in a non-partisan fashion.

With all of the challenges faced by PBS affiliates following the defunding of public television and radio, you can understand the employees being a touch on the cranky side. That said, wishing ill on the president on your social media accounts is not the wisest of moves, regardless of who you are.

Bob Greene is the Board Chairman of Rocky Mountain Public Media (RMPM), and he responded to a post by the TDS-afflicted account “Republicans Against Trump” by saying he wished the president would get a debilitating stroke. Once called out, Mr. Greene has since nuked his account, and the RMPM board has issued a statement condemning his actions.

BlueAnon – THE DAILY BEAST

  • Attempting to cancel someone for attending a sporting event is SO 2018!

Comedian Nate Bargatze is about the most inoffensive entertainer out there, but there is a concerted effort to somehow turn the man into a social pariah. His crime? He attended the UFC contest held at the White House on Sunday.

This, apparently, is cause for not simply concern, but also scandal…? The headline declares Bargatze was “busted” at the event by being seen and describes the visuals as “shocking photos.”

We tend to need a lot more to become worked up about things.

Artesanally-Crafted Narratives – VARIOUS OUTLETS

  • This is considered a legitimate outrage?!

Look, we fully admit we do not appreciate soccer, but that said, just what is this supposed controversy over water breaks all about?!

For the World Cup, taking place right now in the U.S. (we looked this up to confirm), the governing body, FIFA, has addressed concerns about heat during the games by calling for mandated water breaks during each half of gameplay. During this lull in the action, it is apparently a grave concern that Fox—the network covering the games—breaks away for commercials during these moments. That is, they are running commercials when nothing is happening.

Apparently, this action is considered offensive…we think…?

As the fifth day of World Cup competition draws to a close, Fox’s hydration break strategy has become abundantly clear. Despite reports of a “hybrid approach” that would supposedly see the network show the field and players during at least some hydration breaks, Fox has instead opted to go to full-screen advertisements during each and every mid-half stoppage throughout the World Cup.

Apparently, the network is supposed to maintain a live feed so fans do not miss any of the “action” of their favorite stars slugging down Gatorade and toweling off while on the bench.
