Working there is fine, but partying on location is a threat to free speech!
Chalk this one up to pure emotion-driven reactions. How else to explain a veteran newsman claiming staging a press party at the White House could damage our democracy?!
Some of the talk following Saturday’s calamitous White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) gala has been on the increased need for the White House ballroom, over security concerns. While many journalists have said that it is unlikely to ever take place, longtime managing editor of Time Magazine, and current MS NOW figure Richard Stengel, took it a step further:
Holding a party there could threaten freedom of the press!

By the way, the White House hosting the correspondents dinner in its own ballroom is arguably a violation of the First Amendment: it's government control over press access and expression and could have a chilling effect on criticising the president.

Now, far be it from us here at RFTH to question a veteran of the media industry, but we have been under the impression that the media have been working AT the White House for…well, ever. They have their own briefing room, and many hold work stations on the property, and so on.
Low-Octane Gaslighting – MS NOW
Just take Ken’s word on this, since he has no other evidence.
The WHCA shooter had his social media splashed right away, and his manifesto was made public within 24 hours (because he was not a trans shooter), and he was seen to have been following and sharing rather mainstream Democrat and media content. It was for this reason that we saw the press narratives shift from accusing “heated rhetoric” into guns as the problem.

In a sense of desperation, MS NOW’s Ken Dilanian came out to declare that the shooter was not a typical left-leaning figure, but a fringe individual who occupied spaces in the dark recesses of the internet.
Uh-huh…suurrrrre…
Ken Dilanian describes Cole Allen as someone "on the far left fringes who have become radicalized… bombarded by conspiracy theories."

Allen’s manifesto and posting history echoed mainstream Democrat and media messaging about Trump.

Dos Equis-pert Opinions – NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO
Sooo…if he was not a “radical” leftist, that would make him…?
In the attempt to calibrate cataloging the shooter, we next have a desperate lurch in the opposite direction. NPR wanted to excuse its potential culpability as a media source, but was faced with a glaring detail: This guy, a wing-nut though he may be, was rather easily positioned in the leftist camp, and hardly an extremist.
So…the conclusion was that in looking for his motivation, this is all just a mystery no one can solve! Just, you know, ignore his obvious connections to the common Left. Also, you need to ignore the experts NPR cited:
But Holt and others say these views, however pointed some of the terminology may be, fall within a modern mainstream left. He and others say it is very unclear what may have tipped the individual from such widely held views into an alleged violent plot. "You look at the social media profiles that have been attributed to this suspect and they're really not that radical," said Jared Holt, senior researcher at Open Measures, a company that tracks online threats and narratives. "Oftentimes it's like quite centrist, pretty moderate left wing, if anything."
Yup, this is all a mystery.
Somehow this isnt Babylon bee.

Border-line Obsessions – TEXAS TRIBUNE
When will someone help these poor, put-upon attackers?!
The Texas outlet took a look at the plight of an Egyptian family that is being held in an immigrant detention facility. There is a lengthy description of the time spent in detention and the numerous court cases they have endured.
Of course, details have to be minimized. The entire family has overstayed a tourist visa since 2022. Also, mentioned 16 paragraphs deep, this is the family of the man who firebombed a Jewish event in Boulder. He plotted his attack for a year, but the family lawyers are claiming estrangement and ignorance of his desires.
Breaking: An Egyptian family of six believed to be the longest held at the controversial South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley were redetained Saturday after federal judges this week ordered their release.

Border-line Obsessions – NBC NEWS
Yet another case of treacle over details.
NBC News is up next, with a case of a family from Senegal who are set to be deported. They are trying to claim asylum due to war conditions, but they have traveled through a number of countries, beginning with African nations, and then Brazil, which were viable options for them to safely reside, before illegally entering the country. That would make them economic immigrants, especially given the numerous welfare programs they have qualified for. And as for due process, there is a standing court order for deportation.

Pulitzer Prize Nomination – THE NEW YORK TIMES
This becomes a serious bid for the Investigative Reporting honor!
The Times did a feature on one of Google's co-founders. In something of an investigation into Sergey Brin, The Times spoke with a number of individuals who spoke of the man in a patented off-the-record fashion. Apparently, there have recently been photos of Brin’s girlfriend found, and in them (we hope you are sitting down), he was apparently sporting a red MAGA hat.
