Legalized Press-titution – TIME MAGAZINE
Okay, we get it, this will move some copies...
Time Magazine came out with its annual "Person of the Year." The unveiling took place on "The Today Show," and in a complete non-surprise, the "winner" was Donald Trump. You'll note there was this need to repeatedly say he was chosen "for better, or for worse." We were curious if this was something uttered when, say, Taylor Swift was the choice in 2023.
No, not in her case, but then we did manage to find another instance of that description in a past selection.
I'm curious if they ever used that qualifier "for better or worse" with any of the previous POY choices made by @Time Magazine.

Oh yes, look - they said that back...in 2016...when...Trump was picked.https://t.co/DGDxNJ8OJq https://t.co/ThtyztwNdK
Pre-Written Field Reports – PROPUBLICA
Recommended
"Our story that has taken days is completely finished – you have 60 minutes to respond!"
In a follow-up to yesterday's details on ProPublica spiking a hit piece on Pete Hegseth once he exposed the lies in its report, we now get a peek into its process of trying to land a hit on Hegseth.
Reagan Reese of The Daily Caller was given the correspondence from the outlet to Hegseth's representatives, and it shows the reporters using the tired method of building a complete story about someone first and only then contacting the focus of the story once all the accusatory content is baked into the report.
Yesterday, the ProPublica editor revealed how it had been in contact with West Point numerous times and spoke with two different individuals on the matter of Hegseth's admission. It was only then that the outlet reached out to Hegseth, giving nothing more than a one-hour window to respond before publishing. He really should have let them run the piece and then strung them up with the facts after.
SCOOP: @propublica reached out to @PeteHegseth's lawyer, regarding a now-debunked claim that Hegseth had neither applied nor been accepted to West Point.

News Avoidance Syndrome – VARIOUS OUTLETS
It is almost as if the news outlets are avoiding this piece of contradictory evidence.
On the topic of Hegseth being attacked in the press, it follows suit with nearly all of Trump's named individuals. It has been routine to see the various selections become vilified in the press to varying degrees. You'd think every choice he has made has been wildly unpopular if you listened to the news outlets, which have become very unpopular.
Need proof? Here is CNN, one of those outlets suffering from extreme customer flight, showing a poll displaying how people are not listening. On the subject of Trump's Cabinet selection, a majority of people are in support of his picks.
A CNN poll says Americans overwhelmingly support Trump and his transition moves.

Reporting on the Mirror – VOICE OF AMERICA
The heads exploding can be heard overseas.
On the topic of Cabinet choices, Trump has come up with a new position filing sure to enrage select members of the press industry. He has announced that Kari Lake – former TV broadcaster – will be the new head of the international media outlet Voice Of America.
The current management is of a leftist bent, akin to NPR. It was seen when the head of the outlet decried Elon Musk labeling VOA a government-funded media outlet, even as she admitted they were entirely funded by the government.
Trump may be trolling by saying he wants Kari Lake to lead Voice of America. But it’s consistent with that he tried to pull off at the end of his first term.

Demo-lition Project – CNN
Another figure is seen going through a dawning. It's too late, of course, but still.
Yesterday, we mentioned how Leslie Stahl was bemoaning the "hobbling" of the news industry, as people are migrating to other forms of media for their information. In a related dose of reality, Van Jones, on a huge panel at the Deal Book Summit, detailed the reality they are coming to in how the legacy press has become the smaller player in the news environment.
He discusses how Donald Trump was laughed at for foregoing conventional campaign tactics and instead using Joe Rogan and other streamers and podcasters to get his message out. Then Jones uses his son as an example of who in the media is capturing attention:
I'm telling you guys, the mainstream has become fringe and the fringe has become mainstream. There are platforms. There are people out there that are getting 14 million streams, and we're on cable news getting one or 2 million. The entire political class is way off, Way off, way off.
For the record: CNN primetime is not even generating 1 million viewers. Its best shows do not crest 700K, as the network averages about half a million through the day.
Van Jones has come to the realization that legacy media is dead:

Anti-Social Media – MSNBC
Remember, Liz, anything before the "but" is worthless.
Liz Warren is a woman who seems to enjoy making mistakes. Recently she tried to criticize Pete Hegseth by pointing out all of the sexual harassment female soldiers endure – that would be, all of the harassment taking place under Joe Biden's administration.
Her latest mistake was to go on "The Reid Out." (Seriously, Liz, nothing good can come from sitting in with Joy.)
Liz compounded the mistakes by indulging the hostess in the discussion about the murder of the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, and she stepped in it massively.
Sen. @ewarren on the UnitedHealth murderer: "Violence is never the answer. This guy gets a trial who’s allegedly killed the CEO of UnitedHealth. But you can only push people so far. And then they start to take matters into their own hands.” pic.twitter.com/xgtBPqDE0Y
— Tom Elliott (@tomselliott) December 11, 2024
Liz attempted damage control on her support for vigilante murder, but it did not help her cause:
In a statement to POLITICO after this report published Wednesday, Warren said, "Violence is never the answer. Period. I should have been much clearer that there is never a justification for murder."
