Reporting on the Mirror – CNN

  • The temerity of those Republican voters to distrust liars!

On CNN, it was a precious moment when co-host John King thought he was having an introspective moment. In addressing the revelation that Republican voters dared to show a scintilla of skepticism over President Biden snow-shoveling billions of unchecked dollars to Ukraine, King considered the mindset of these voters and how they do not trust his network.

First, John – it is best not to bring up the topic of CNN’s fact-checkers. We detail frequently in this very space how lax they are at their assigned duty.

As for not trusting your network? That appears to be a rather wise decision, as you practically command that people become cynical towards your output.

Blue-Anon – MSNBC

  • The guy who did not do this stuff when in power will definitely do it if he returns to power.

You’d think at some point that the gaggle of galaxy brains on “Morning Joe” would come to a realization that if they truly feared the ascendancy of Donald Trump then they would not grant him so much attention. Of course, they do not truly fear him because if he were to, in fact, disappear then they would lose attention and ratings. Thus, fear-mongering it is, and they especially love it when the fear is supposedly about their own existence.

In yet another roundtable discussion where they heap scorn at various Republicans (something never considered being applied to Democrats), Donny Deutsch hypothesizes that if Donald Trump were to return to power, he would strive to have their program taken off the air.

Why they try to get me to vote for the man in this fashion is a mystery.

Glossary Over Things – ASSOCIATED PRESS

In a piece covering Joe Biden going to Congress to requisition more money for pet projects, the AP does its job in helping him out, not casting a critical word about the spending, including billions more to be funneled into Ukraine.

As part of the $40 billion ask, which goes above spending limits set by both parties, Biden wants money allocated for disaster relief funding, and writers Lisa Mascaro and Colleen Long help underscore this need by rechristening the mid-year portion of the calendar. In order to help sell this spending increase, they have decided to rename “Summer.”

The package requested Thursday includes $12 billion to replenish U.S. federal disaster funds at home after a deadly climate season of heat and storms.

Low Octane Gas Lighting – THE DISPATCH

  • If you cannot afford political donations, you are too stupid to vote!

We are not entirely sure if this is simply undistilled elitism, or if Jonah Goldberg is actually promoting the purchasing of influence by the rich and powerful. Whichever is the case, this is not a grand look for Jonah.

While sitting in with Dana Bash on “Inside Politics,” Goldberg was in a discussion about candidates who rise to a level of prominence as a result of a groundswell of small, private donations. For whatever reason, these folks bother Jonah. Quite a bit.

Small donors are one of the biggest problems for democracy and the GOP. Large donors actually have a strategic view about moderation, who can win, who can't. Small donors really are just venting their spleen with their credit card, and they lock candidates into positions that can hurt them in the general election.

Sure, those people who can cut massive donation checks and not even feel it are the voices of moderation. You have to love the concept that people with the power to buy a candidate do not wield too much power, it is those unwashed rabble and their $50 ante who are a real threat to democracy.

Pulitzer Prize Nomination – POLITICO

  • To find out who the real power brokers in Washington are, you need to check their name tag.

Sam Stein, writing in Politico Magazine, has tapped into a sub-culture in the nation’s capital. Many of the people in various centers of operation who share a common trait are supposedly banding together and communicating through their shared experience.

But the Dougs are different. A weird, niche community of them has formed that, frankly, doesn’t exist among the Jeffs and Joes and Chucks of the world. They have a bond with each other, born out of sharing a name neither rare nor common. They tweet at each other, seek each other out at parties, and keep tabs on their collective achievements.

Most people, when they meet someone with the same name, tend to think of it as moderately interesting but altogether uneventful. Not the Dougs. It’s a big enough community that it would seem impossible to never encounter another. But it’s gotten increasingly smaller. “It’s about time that the Dougs have ascended the mountain top,” said Brinkley. “It’s been a second-tier name. But it’s never gone away.”
