"Riffed from the Headlines" is Townhall's daily VIP feature with coverage of the deeply flawed aspects of journalism in the nation. We'll look to bring accountability to the mishaps, malaprops, misdeeds, manipulations, malpractice, and manufactured narratives in mainstream media.

Anti-Social Media – CNN

  • Dana Bash refuses to accept "Yes" as an answer.

There is no better way to reveal you are a biased journalist than to be seen operating with a litmus test. When you have to approach every member of a political party with a uniform query that needs to be passed, you reveal how you operate with a touch of partisanship.

As Dana Bash reveals in this clip, she is consumed with partisanship. During an alleged interview with Republican Washington Senate candidate Tiffany Smiley, Bash received the answer to a question she requested, but since it was not the answer she wanted for narrative purposes, Bash kept hammering away to elicit a negative.

It is sadly hilarious that Dana starts with requesting just "A simple 'Yes' or 'No'..." yet when she receives a very succinct and simple "Yes" answer, she cannot accept that, as it does not fit her desire to paint Smiley as an extremist.

DNC PR Firm – THE BULWARK (Pt. 1)

  • The expediency of tossing aside "ethical conservatives" to protect Biden.

In one way, you might feel a little bit sorry for the crew at The Bulwark. After nobly backing Joe Biden over the accursed GOP, it means that today, they are stuck with supporting the addled and divisive man they promised would heal the country and rescue us from their perceived nightmare. Anything critical of the man will be seen as an admission of mission failure, so he must be propped up at all costs – even at the expense of conservative figures whom this group touted as worthy individuals. After Stephen Miller brought Joe's infamous claim that Republicans wanted to place blacks "back in chains," Cathy Young rushed up to protect their president.

Then, in further defense of Biden, Cathy takes an odd step of tossing Mitt Romney under the bus – one of the few Republicans Bulwarkers have shown some favor. See, a joke Romney once told is just as bad if not worse than Joe's bold statement told unironically or something.

Anti-Social Media – WASHINGTON POST

The gang of usual suspects at WaPo are back it, going after the Libs of TikTok account for their claim of orchestrating an attack campaign on the Boston Children's Hospital. The article is purely focused on Chaya Raichik, who operates the account, because there have been threats made to the hospital. The central focus involves Raichik having called the hospital and having two different workers who confirmed they perform hysterectomies on children for trans corrective surgery.

WaPo dismisses this as workers not authorized to have made those comments. They wrote, "After Raichik falsely claimed on Aug. 11 that Boston Children's Hospital performs hysterectomies on children…", except her claims were not false. She provided recordings of two separate phone calls she made where hospital staffers confirmed they would perform the procedure on girls 16 or younger.

The Post seems intent on not investigating this detail any further than a spokesman giving a statement of denial and then blaming LOTT for delivering false information. The bulk of the article is a call to have the account permanently shut down; ironically targeting an account for performing journalism the Post is unwilling to conduct. Unsurprisingly, this hitjob sports the bylines of Taylor Lorenz and Peter Jamison.

Reporting on the Mirror –It's

On Friday, Harwood's sudden announcement of his leaving CNN came as – well, not a shock, exactly – something of a surprise of timing. He had just finished up stroking Joe Biden for his speech and lashing out at Republicans, after all, so he was not exactly operating as if his work was under any type of scrutiny by the new management looking to steer the network barge someplace closer to the center of the river.

Many at the network are reportedly on edge over the prospect of more axe swings taking place. The amusement is not so much in the impending firings but in the reason so many are edgy at CNN Center. The delusion appears strong with this crowd.

- "CNN journalists, however, say the new boss has done little to elaborate on what his vision entails and what reporters should do to avoid coming off as partisan when reporting about major issues. 'I think they're hoping people will just guess what to do,' one journalist told the Post. Another employee also criticized the network's lack of explanations over the recent firings."

DNC PR Firm – THE BULWARK (Pt. 2)

It might come as a surprise that The Bulwark has taken a scathing view of the Georgia Elections and the Republicans running for different offices. It comes as no surprise whatsoever that in the rabid stampede of making it all about Trump that facts and details are trampled. Amanda Carpenter takes a long-winded look at the campaign of Brian Kemp for governor, as well as that of another race, where Burt Jones runs for lieutenant governor.

Carpenter, of course, makes this all about the contested 2020 election and the tendrils to Trump as a result. But there is a problem; Kemp was the man who actually opposed Trump's demands regarding the election, which would make him a darling of the team at Bulwark Central. But since Kemp is actually savvy enough to realize he needs to appeal to voters, his refusal to act like a rabid St. Bernard in regards to anyone connected to Trump means he has lost the support of the distempered Bulwark team.

So Carpenter, in her need to slam Kemp now, goes after Jones, the man she claims is his "running mate." The only problem is, in Georgia, they do not have running mates for the governorship; the lieutenant is elected separately. So in the desire to impugn a Trump opponent, she gets core facts completely incorrect and discredits her own article immediately in the headline.

Glossary Over Things – WASHINGTON "POST

  • Like "fetch," this is unlikely to happen…

Hey, gang, remember that Covid thing everyone was worked up over for a time? It's, well - it's still a thing, according to WaPo, despite the fact that most cases anymore are more in line with past flu infections evidenced by the fact that our feeble president and his wife have had the virus repeatedly over the past month.

According to the paper, Covid is striking back as this summer sees even more people getting out and vacationing more often than they have in the past few years. The paper almost makes it sound like they deserve it; they have kind of asked to become infected since these nomads are said to engaging in "Revenge Travel."
