This week's Bible study is adapted from the Explore the Bible curriculum.

Bible Passages: Numbers 1:1-8:26

Discussion Questions:

-- When and under what circumstances have you felt a need to draw closer to the Lord in your life?

-- How do your offerings of time, talents and money demonstrate your view of God's worthiness?

Food for Thought:

A child of "the system," Tyrone Flowers entered foster care at age 7. For the next 10 years, he lived in three different foster homes, residential treatment centers, eight group homes, reform school, and finally, the largest youth center in Missouri. At 17, he desired to do the right things but, having never been taught those things, he found himself in a verbal confrontation with another teen. That shouting match ended in gunfire. Tyrone was struck in his shoulder, neck and hands. He almost died and was paralyzed during the ordeal. He remembers calling out to God, "Why me?" What Tyrone learned through prayer was that God expected him to forgive the other teen. Forgiving his assailant helped him forge a personal relationship with Christ. He began to question why he'd been spared. Surely there must be a purpose in his life, even though he'd been confined to a wheelchair. He now works with other kids who may be headed down a similar path he took as a teen.

"I realize that if you're operating in God's perfect will, you're not disabled because if you're operating in His perfect will, He is going to enable you to do whatever He calls you to do; even if that's disabling you...," Tyrone says. "I knew God had equipped me uniquely to work with high-risk urban youth. I realized that it's not about me; it's about what God can do through me to change the lives of others."
