Meeting at Eastgate Baptist Church in Burton, the 248 messengers and 109 guests represented 107 of the convention's 292 churches and observed the theme "Facing the Challenge."
Guest speakers included Morris H. Chapman of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee, Chuck Lawless of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Michael Catt of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga.
Ken Render, pastor of Lakeside Church in St. Clair Shores, was re-elected president by acclamation. Roscoe Belton, pastor of Middlebelt Baptist Church in Inkster, was elected first vice president; Sharon Fishell, a member of Roscommon Baptist Church in Roscommon, second vice president; James Jones, pastor of First Baptist Church in Trenton, recording secretary; and Linda Mathis, a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Lincoln Park was elected assistant recording secretary, all by acclamation as well.
Also during the meeting Oct. 27-28, messengers approved an overall budget of $3,242,346 for 2010, a decrease of 4.3 percent. Michigan Baptists will continue to forward 30.5 percent of $1,534,223 in anticipated Cooperative Program giving to national and international missions and ministries
One resolution encouraged Michigan churches to pray for the SBC's Great Commission Resurgence Task Force, and the state convention approved a missions partnership with Myanmar to begin in 2010.
Next year's annual meeting will be Oct. 26-27 at Middlebelt Baptist Church in Inkster.
