Martin Luther King Jr. said the Kennedy's at least "expressed a concern" and played "some part" in his release from an Atlanta jail just days before the 1960 presidential election. The Kennedy's involvement was thought to have been crucial in securing black votes. "I think Dr. King was aware in the tape that he probably did more for John F. Kennedy than perhaps John F. Kennedy did for him," according to historian Keya Morgan.
