Despite Court Ruling, Unions Far Outspending Corporations in Campaign Financing

Despite the Supreme Court's recent decision in Citizens United v. FEC and Democrats' insistence that the decision would open the flood gates of donations from big, evil corporations, unions continue to dominate in spending on independent campaign ads leading into the 2010 midterm election season.

WaPo reports:
Labor unions have dominated spending on independent campaign ads so far this election season, despite a recent Supreme Court decision that freed spending by corporations, a Washington Post analysis shows. ...

So far this year, $24.7 million in independent spending has been reported to the Federal Election Commission, campaign filings show. Unions have spent $9.7 million (or 39 percent of the total), compared with $6.4 million (26 percent) spent by individuals and $3.4 million spent by corporations.
Despite solid evidence to the contrary, expect Democrats to continue using their false assumptions about corporate campaign financing to push through their latest legislative attempt in limiting campaign finance contributions from corporations--a measure that conveniently exempts unions...
