Tony Perkins vs. Mary Landrieu?

I've been hearing rumors that Tony Perkins (of the Family Research Council) is hinting he might take on Senator Mary Landrieu, next year.  Landrieu is a terrific politician, who has gone out of her way to appear "moderate".  She will be very tough for anyone to defeat.  But Perkins is sharp as a tack, and his FRC connections would make him a very good fundraiser.

Could he pull it off?  Louisiana is one of those states that can go either way.  With many Hurricane Katrina victims having permanently moved out of the state, there is no telling what could happen.  And if Rep. Bobby Jindal is on the ticket for governor, a Jindal/Perkins team would be very formidable.

If this race happens, it will be one of the most exciting to watch.
