NRA Sues Over New Gun Reporting Regulations

They said they would do it, and now they have. The National Rifle Association and two Arizona gun dealers have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for D.C. against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in order to stop new and illegal Obama Justice Department gun regulations from going into effect. The new regulations require Federally Licensed Firearms Dealers in southern border states California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to report the sale of two or more rifles to the same person within a 5-day period. The regulations were issued on July 11 by Deputy Attorney General James Cole, who is currently under investigation by House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa for his role in Operation Fast and Furious. The regulations were issued after ATF used law abiding gun shop owners as a scape goat for their deadly operation. As I said in an earlier post, during Operation Fast and Furious, gun shop owners reported suspicious sales to ATF and despite discomfort with the program, officials forced them to sell massive amounts of weapons to straw purchasers working for Mexican drug cartels. Now, the Obama Justice Department is punishing law abiding gun shop owners while trying to cover up the scandal and saving Obama political appointees. This is just the first step the Obama Administration is taking to implement more gun control despite failed judgement and enforcement from officials working within the Justice Department.

Attorney General Eric Holder is defending the regulations, saying he will fight the NRA over the issue:

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said the Justice Department would “vigorously oppose” the N.R.A. challenge.

“We think that the action we have taken is consistent with the law,” Mr. Holder told reporters on Wednesday, “and that the measures that we are proposing are appropriate ones to stop the flow of guns from the United States into Mexico.”

The easiest way to stop the flow of guns from the United States to Mexico is to get rid of ATF, considering the bureau deliberately allowed 2,000 semi-automatic weapons to flow across the Mexico border into the hands of dangerous and ruthless drug cartels.

“Allowing loads of weapons that we knew to be destined for criminals, this was the plan. It was so mandated.” –Special Agent John Dodson ATF Phoenix Field Division.

Damning new evidence from Capitol Hill shows that ATF Directors and Justice Department Officials knew about and encouraged the purposeful trafficking of thousands of weapons across the southern border, despite strong objections from ATF agents. Thousands of innocent lives were taken as the result, including those of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and ICE Agent Jamie Zapata.

NRANews' Ginny Simone recently spoke with Second Amendment Attorney Steve Halbrook about the lawsuit.
