Troy Davis Receives Stay of Execution

At this time, one of two executions which were scheduled for tonight has taken place. Lawrence Brewer, a Texan who was convicted of a racially motivated killing, has been executed by lethal injection.

In contrast, Troy Davis, whose case has gained national attention, received a temporary stay so that the Supreme Court can review his case. The Court has up to one week to make a decision.

Update: Troy Davis was executed at 11:08 PM after the Supreme Court denied his eleventh hour stay of execution.
