I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Mitt Romney's ad masters are hitting bullseye after bullseye. Even if the former Massachusetts Governor doesn't win the GOP nomination next year, his campaign will have charted an effective course for taking a messaging hatchet to this presidency in a general election -- which is essentially what Romney has been running. As Katie wrote earlier, the president is heading to Chicago for a birthday-themed fundraiser. Team Romney welcomes him home with this devastating message:
Obama isn't working, even in his old haunts. Illinois' economic prospects don't seem to be brightening, either. Under the tax-heavy boot of the president's ideological cousins in Springfield, the Prairie State remains mired in deep financial distress, as businesses are bailing and laying off workers:
More than 1,100 workers at 10 companies learned last month that they'll lose their jobs in plant closings or mass layoffs before year-end, according to state records posted online Tuesday. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity requires employers with at least 75 full-time workers to provide 60 days' notice of plant closures or mass layoffs.
The NRSC has also released a strong new spot, featuring a highlight reel of Democrats' head-in-the-sand statements about their failed economic policies:
Today's American economy, according to Democrats: Vastly improved, wildly successful, and "turned around." If this is success, I'd hate to see what failure looks like. If Democrats remain in the driver's seat much longer, we may find out soon enough.
