George W. Bush Calls Paul Ryan a “Strong Pick”

According to ABC News, although Bush 43 has kept a low profile since retiring from public life in 2009, he nevertheless seems quite content with Mitt Romney’s VP selection:

Former President George W. Bush joined the chorus of Republican voices praising presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s selection of Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate.

“This is a strong pick,” Bush said. “Governor Romney is serious about confronting the long-term challenges facing America, and Paul Ryan will help him solve the difficult issues that must be addressed for future generations.”

Ryan, 42, has been considered a rising star in the party for years. He’s been the chairman of the House Budget Committee since Republicans took back control of the House in 2010, and he’s known for his keen fiscal knowledge. Plus, he hails from an important state. The GOP has been hoping to take Wisconsin this cycle.

Although the state hasn’t gone red in a presidential race since 1984, Republicans have been buoyed by the successful gubernatorial race of Scott Walker, who became the first governor to face a recall election and win last June.
