Hillary Clinton faces the threat of losing Muslim support should she fail to distance herself from ally Gen. Wesley Clark, according to some advocacy groups. In July, Clark suggested we need to place radical Muslims in internment camps.
“If these people are radicalized and they don’t support the United States and they’re disloyal to the United States as a matter of principle, fine. That’s their right and it’s our right and obligation to segregate them from the normal community for the duration of the conflict.”
After receiving a bevy of backlash, Clark clarified his comments by insisting he did not mean to endorse racial profiling. He only wished to “separate people who have made dangerous decisions from the rest of society.”
That didn’t help either.
Eleven organizations are now sharing their concerns with Clinton in a letter, asking she disassociate herself from the general, who has campaigned on her behalf:
“We appreciate that you forcefully condemned the proposal put forward by Donald Trump to ban any Muslims from entering the United States — but we are concerned that your campaign is sending mixed messages when it comes to Islamophobia,” the letter reads. “Just months ago, one of your prominent campaign surrogates, Gen. Wesley Clark, called for the internment of some American Muslims. We call on you to make clear that you find such extreme proposals unacceptable by immediately removing Gen. Clark from his role as a surrogate for your campaign … and promise to do the same with any campaign surrogates caught aiding and abetting the dangerous anti-Muslim mob mentality fostered by your opponents.”

Clinton has played it safe when it comes to identifying the source of terrorism that has infected not just the country, but the globe. At the second 2016 Democratic presidential debate, she refused to name the enemy for what it is: radical Islam. Denying the true nature of terror is a trait she shares with President Obama and his administration.
Whether Clinton is being careful not to lose the Muslim vote or trying to be politically correct, her beating around the bush when it comes to identifying terror is antithetical to our national security concerns.
As for these 11 organizations, they should be more concerned about radical terrorists than Gen. Clark.
