Ryan: The House Will Vote to 'Pause' Syrian Refugee Program

With America's national security in mind, House Speaker Paul Ryan announced Tuesday morning his wish to "pause" the White House's plan to accept 100,000 Syrian refugees by 2017. The House, he said, will vote on corresponding legislation as soon as possible.

"This is a moment where it is better to be safe than to be sorry, so we think the prudent, the responsible thing is to take a pause in this particular aspect of this refugee program in order to verify that terrorists are not trying to infiltrate the refugee population," Ryan told reporters.

Ryan's sentiment is echoed by 30 governors who say they will refuse to accept Syrian refugees.

The recent tragedy in Paris demands action from our leaders. Halting the refugee program is just the first common sense step. The speaker, like many Americans, scoffs at Obama's belief that ISIS is contained and our current strategy is the right one.

"A containment plan is not enough," Ryan said. That has failed."

Kudos to Ryan for voicing what the president obviously couldn't - we need a swift and new response to cripple ISIS. Our current anti-terror campaign has barely left a scratch.
