Crain’s Endorses Terri Lynn Land in Michigan Senate Race

With Election Day just around the corner, Crain’s Detroit Business has weighed in on the Michigan Senate race between Democratic Rep. Gary Peters and Republican challenger Terri Lynn Land.

“Terri Lynn Land is the most qualified to be the next senator from Michigan,” Keith Crain began the op-ed on behalf of the paper. “Her experience as Michigan Secretary of State demonstrated to the entire Michigan population that her business attributes were well-suited for the U.S. Senate.”

Tacitly addressing that Land is down significantly in the polls, Crain said it would be a “big mistake” to base one’s vote on the campaigns the candidates have run, as both have had “far too much mudslinging and far too little substance.”

Crain also acknowledged that Land is not a great campaigner, but said that shouldn’t be an indication of what she’d be like in office.

“Land is probably not the best campaigner that has ever run for office, but her skills in running a business and previous elected office seem to us to be far more important than a campaign.”

And as a business news and information website, it’s no surprise, then, that they put their trust in the candidate with the most business experience.

“Land has spent her whole life in business, and it would serve our state well to have a business executive in Washington as well as Lansing,” he continued. “We at Crain's happen to believe that a far better indicator of their ability to operate in the political environment is their business experience.”

Peters just doesn’t have the business experience to best represent Michigan residents in Washington.

“We are convinced that Terri Lynn Land will best represent the citizens of this state in the U.S. Senate,” he concluded.
