Senate Votes on Health Care Repeal

The Senate voted down a full repeal of the health care law 47-51, with the GOP voting unanimously for repeal.

"The Senate Republicans promised the American people we would vote to repeal Obamacare, and we have done that. But this fight isn’t over," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a statement following the vote. "We intend to continue the fight to repeal and replace Obamacare with sensible reforms that would lower the cost of American health care, like medical malpractice, like selling insurance across state lines. This fight isn’t over, so I hope you’ll stay in the fight with us.”

The Senate did, however, repeal one section of the law that would have collected $17 billion in new taxes, according to Politico, because it requires business to report a certain type of purchase on 1099s.

The repeal that passed was introduced by a Democrat, but it had been previously offered by a Republican, Politico said.
