Voters Outside Debate Venue Let Kaine Know They're Not Happy With His Abortion Flip Flop

Farmville, VA - On my way into Longwood University for Tuesday night's one and only vice presidential debate, I spotted a protester wearing an anti-Tim Kaine shirt targeting the Virginia senator's abortion record. A

Washington Times reporter also found Catholic protesters who traveled several miles to tell Kaine he's giving their faith a bad name.

“He says he’s a devout Catholic, but he’s not. He is 100 percent pro-abortion,” she said. “The lie that he perpetuates that ‘I’m personally against it.’ That is a lie because if you are against it you don’t vote for it 100 percent of the time.”

Kaine, who identifies as Catholic, has frustrated many voters by recently flip flopping on the Hyde Amendment. The law, which just turned 40, prohibits taxpayer funds from going toward abortion. Kaine had been in favor of the amendment for years and says he's "personally opposed" to abortion, yet after becoming Hillary Clinton's running mate, he seemed to fall more in line with her pro-abortion agenda.

Thanks to Kaine's new extreme position, Wall Street Journal's William McGurn is now referring to the Democrat as "Planned Parenthood's Tim Kaine."

In sum, Mr. Kaine is a garden variety Catholic Democrat of the early 21st century. In this capacity, the orthodoxies that now define his party and might once have disturbed a practicing Catholic bother him not at all. These include abortion on demand, underwritten with taxpayer dollars.

Mallory Quigley, the communications director for the Susan B. Anthony List, told Townhall that Kaine's inactions are louder than words.

"Kaine says he's personally pro-life but what good are personal convictions if you won't stand up for the most innocent and vulnerable among us, or defend conscience rights? Tim Kaine misleads voters by trying to appear moderate on abortion but as Hillary's running mate he could not be more extreme."

Then again, pro-abortion Democrats aren't exactly thrilled with Kaine, either, hesitant to believe his sudden opposition to Hyde.

Voters, particularly Catholic Democrats, will be eager to see what position Kaine will take should the issue arise.
