Colorado law says the governor must deliver his budget recommendations for fiscal year 2011-2012 to the legislature’s Joint Budget Committee by Nov. 1.Gov. Bill Ritter, a Democrat, will do just that, but not until late that evening. He’s not publicly releasing detailed information about his budget until the next day. Yes, election day.
That will guarantee that any potential negative news about the budget, and there’s likely to be some, won’t come out the day before the election and hurt Democratic lawmakers seeking re-election or the Democratic’s party’s chances of retaining the state House and Senate.
