Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

“What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occurred in the 232 years of the nation’s political history. The event itself is so extraordinary that another chapter could be added to the Bible to chronicle its significance,” declared Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago.

Really? I guess by his assessment, the Emancipation Proclamation and Civil War would pale by comparison, as would the assassinations of Lincoln, Kennedy and King. I could go on, but you get my point. A little hyperbole in an emotional moment might be forgiven except for that last part: Another chapter in the Bible for Barack Obama? Shall we pair him with Moses or the Apostle Paul? Would he be part of the Revelation of the end times or was he present at creation?

As thousands swoon at rallies, cheering even as Obama blows his nose and declares, “I am confident we can create a kingdom right here on earth,” I have watched with agitation and concern. Have people lost their sense of God to such a degree that they would virtually worship a presidential candidate?

Still, it’s one thing for adoring crowds to swoon, quite another for the object of the swooning, to declare himself the Democratic candidate, then boldly proclaim:

I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment…

When we began to provide care for the sick and give jobs to the jobless.

This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal….

This was the moment, this was the time….

All this delivered to the backdrop of applause and emotion matching his increasingly fevered pitch until it reached a crescendo which nearly drowned the candidate out.

But no adulation could top that of San Francisco Chronicle writer, Mark Moford, who exuded in his article, “Is Obama an Enlightened Being?”:

Barack Obama isn’t really one of us. Not in the normal way, anyway … it’s not merely his youthful vigor, or handsomeness, or even inspiring rhetoric … It is something more … a sort of powerful luminosity, a unique high-vibration integrity. Continued...

OBAMA AND HIS LIES AND PROMISES
JUST WAIT TILL OBAMA IS IN OFFICE. YOU THINK NEGATIVE JUST WAIT. YOU HAVE NO CLUE TO HOW BAD IT IS GOING TO GET WITH THIS RADICAL LEFT WING NUT ALONG WITH HIS RADICAL LEFT WING NUTS PELOSI, REID, SCHUMER, ON AND ON.

BOY HAS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE MESSED UP THIS TIME. THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS

I TOLD YOU SO

Somewhat negative view there
I'm not sure I see where you're going with this. You compare his campaign to some of the most extraordinarily negative events of our history. Personally I see the turn around from the civil rights issues present up around 30 years ago to having a black man run for president is extraordinary. In terms of the strength of our nation I would say it compares to the events Post civil war and our actions in WWII.

But to compare it to some of our nations darkest events isn't right. This isn't like an assassination or a conflict where our nation is torn, but rather one that shows America can get over some of the darker aspects of our past and rise above them. The Emancipation Proclamation is significant, but not really as much as it's made out to be because it never actually freed any slaves. It was a move to help give the North a moral cause to rally about, while keeping any slave kept up North confined to their needed duties.

Overall the column seems more to attack Obama's supporters, commentators, etc. than the man himself. Which is fine, but I think judging a man based on his own words and actions makes more sense than judging him on his company. Although I disagree with a lot of his policies Obama is one hell of an orator, has a very likable personality and the "aura" described in the column is a result of his use of those two factors.
