Poll
Will Sarah Palin make a run at the GOP Nomination in 2012?

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The principal reason why former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has climbed to the top of Sen. John McCain's practical wish list for vice president is the possibility that he could bring Michigan's 17 electoral votes to the Republicans for the first time since 1988.

Private polls show Romney could make all the difference in Michigan. A McCain-Romney ticket carries the state by a moderately comfortable margin. With any other running mate, McCain loses Michigan.

George Romney, Mitt's father, was a Detroit auto executive and the popular three-term governor of Michigan. The younger Romney won the 2008 primary in Michigan over McCain, who had won there in 2000 against George W. Bush.

JINDAL SURVIVES

Reports of a decline in the popularity at home of Louisiana's first-year Gov. Bobby Jindal over his mishandling of more pay for state legislators have been greatly exaggerated. His long-shot chances for the Republican vice presidential nomination remain.

A private Louisiana survey of 800 registered voters taken July 6-8 by The Polling Company shows 60 percent favorable (with 39 percent strongly favorable) and 18 percent unfavorable for Jindal. Those numbers contradict Jindal's reported precipitous decline after the 37-year-old governor reversed himself twice on the legislative pay issue but ended up opposing it.

A footnote: A select audience of New Hampshire Republicans was startled Tuesday when McCain told them "you are really going to like" Minnesota's 47-year-old Tim Pawlenty -- what sounded like a possible tip-off of his vice presidential choice. But McCain's intimates are accustomed to hearing him praise Pawlenty.

FUNDRAISER OBAMA

Sen. Barack Obama is employing his fundraising prowess to raise money not only for his presidential campaign but also for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, seeking a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

Recipients of Obama's summer mailing include many lobbyists who are called "switch hitters" in political parlance -- contributors to lawmakers of both parties who seek to open Capitol Hill doors to them on a bipartisan basis.

A footnote: While Democrats have a good shot at picking up four more Senate seats to put their majority at 55 to 45, collecting the 60 seats needed to break filibusters without Republican help seems out of reach. "We must have a deadlock-proof Democratic majority," Obama said in his letter. Continued...

I hope he doesn't pick Mitt
Because the economic needs of this country will need someone like Romney to turn it around. With the congress unwilling and unable to address our energy needs, we will continue to see a decay of our dollar and increasing inflation. Romney takes flak over his no-win situation of a republican leading a very liberal state, trying to instill conservative values, while trying to serve his constituency. He was elected to serve the state of Massachusetts as a whole, not the small number of conservatives living there.

No skeletons in his closet, so the attack basically played on the nation's overall ignorance about his religion. For some reason, political power brokers are very threatened by an honest politician who has specific talents needed by this country, especially one who really doesn't need to accept special interest money. For some comparison, Christ's apostles weren't accepted very well, and most died very painfully and violently, mainly because they were misunderstood and spoke truth. The earth isn't flat like once believed, so unless individual research is done, misconceptions and rumor will continue to rule. It's similar to asking a dyed-in-the-wool Ford guy about what another brand of vehicle is like. Ron Reagan had his set backs before dominating Carter, so I hope Mitt stays interested for 4 more years because I'm concerned about what will happen if BHO and a liberal congress get together.

MACK and MITT
Senator McCain has formed a committee to help him with the selection of his vice president. The candidates for this job must meet almost all of the requirements mentioned by Senator John McCain.

The choice for McCain's running mate must possess a similar ideology on security, foreign policy, social policy and fiscal policy as the president that will strengthen the popularity of these two people in charge of our country during these difficult and extreme challenges confronting our nation domestically and round the world.

Mitt Romney has succeeded in the global business world since his founding of Bain Capital in 1984. Since then he saved the 2002 Winter Olympics. As Governor of MA he took a $2 billion deficit to a $3 billion surplus in one term. He took several companies from failure to success i.e. Staples, Domino's Pizza, Sealy Corporation, Brookstone and the Sports Authority. He knows successful companies create jobs. He knows economics.

I believe Mitt Romney has the resume` to be the best choice from those mentioned plus he will have the support of the GOP and is recommended by top stalwarts of the GOP to be on the ticket with McCain. Mitt Romney is certainly capable of running the largest business in the world, the United States government.

The Select Committee and Senator McCain must agree that Mitt Romney is indeed, the best choice as his running mate and Mitt will enhance a GOP success for the M & M ticket in November for these two to lead our country through these perilous times.
