There is a better stimulus plan out there

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

We now have the benefit of PEBO’s* general position on a plan to stimulate our economy. Government shall be our savior. We shall not want. More specifically, government spending. About $800 billion (probably more) will be created out of thin air and then spent by politicians and their cronies in an effort to get our economy moving. Some of PEBO’s spending ideas included “investing” in government schools and modernizing various federal government buildings in Washington and elsewhere.

The “investing in education” bit gives you your first real clue of just what Obama is proposing here. He is proposing to use the occasion of an economic crisis to provide cover for increased government spending that he’s been promising since the day he announced his candidacy. I doubt that someone can explain clearly just how investing in education is going to quickly stimulate our economy, but that spending will be there because it was promised – promised long before our crisis became apparent.

Obama’s stimulus plan is very little more than a plan to enhance and solidify the power of the Imperial Federal Government over our economy at the expense of the private sector and free markets.

Is there a better idea out there? You bet there is, and it came from the 1st Congressional District of Texas. Congressmen Louie Gohmert notes that the federal government collects about $100 billion in income taxes every month, plus another $60 billion in Social Security and Medicare taxes. If those of you who are government educated have a calculator handy, you’ll see that this adds up to about $160 billion a month. Now if you divide Obama’s proposed $800 billion stimulus plan by $160 billion, you’ll come up with five. This means that our government will collect $800 billion in income and payroll taxes from February through June.

So, Gohmert asks, instead of bureaucrats and politicians deciding how all of this money is going to be spent, why not let the people who actually worked for this cash make their own independent spending decisions for this money. How would you do that? Simple: declare a five-month tax holiday. From February through June everybody keeps their paycheck. No income tax withholding … no payroll taxes. What will the people do with this money? What, are you crazy? They’ll spend it, that’s what. Talk about stimulating the economy!

Let’s just wrap this up with a handy little chart. Politicians just love charts.

Stimulus plans' affect on national debt

Obama's Stimulus - The government prints $800 billion for government to spend, thus insuring that the money will be spent as politicians and government bureaucrats want it to be spent. Plan adds $800 billion in additional debt.

Six Month Tax Holiday - The government prints $800 billion to replace the lost tax revenue needed for ordinary government expenses while people are spending the money they earned to stimulate our economy. Plan adds $800 billion in additional debt.

Either way we add $800 billion to our deficit.

Who gets the power to chose economic winners and losers?

Obama's Stimulus - Government makes the choices of who wins and loses. Winners include teacher’s unions, government contractors, politicians and businesses favored by government and political operatives. This plan grows government.

Six Month Tax Holiday - The people who actually earned the money get to choose the economic winners and losers through their spending decisions. Winners include private sector businesses that provide quality products and services. This plan grows the private-sector economy.

Either way $800 billion gets poured into our economy!!!

Who comes out with more power?

Obama's Stimulus - Enhances the power of government and promotes the cause of a state -controlled economy.

Six Month Tax Holiday - Enhances the power of the individual taxpayer/consumer and promotes the cause of economic liberty and the free market.

Power to the people? Or to government?

Who gets the happy ending?

Obama's Stimulus - Thrills those who love government

Six Month Tax Holiday - Pleases those who love liberty

Is there a detriment to the Gohmert plan? You betcha! And the flaw is fatal. If you declare a full tax holiday people are actually going to figure out how much they earn. No more of this “take home pay” nonsense. You get your whole paycheck. Now just imagine what happens in July with the withholding starts again.

Revolt.

The reason
managed economies fail is that no one in govt can make economic decisions for each individual better than they can. And the reason behind this fact is that the govt avoids accountability. Where there is no pain for failure, there is little effort spent in getting it right. And so we have the almost inevitable failure of totalitarian govts.

oh boy
After much soul-searching and studying the issues since the messiah has been selected I have come to realize "we is in deep doo doo"

Oh Boy???
I have to commend U for your *Revelation*, but for Goodness' Sake WHAT TOOK U SO LONG??\
And, Yes we are in for a real rough ride..CHEERS!!

Pistol
"And the reason behind this fact is that the govt avoids accountability."

Amen Bro! Look at the Republicans from 2001-2007.

It's Republican thought that has brought on this financial meltdown. Spending more than you have will surely lead to disaster.

It was Republicans who spend more than the Democrats. They increased pork barrel spending from 3,000 to 14,000 projects a year, NOT PAID FOR.

They have engaged in a five and half year social engineering project in the Middle East that costs $120 billion a year and may well last another 100 years, NOT PAID FOR.

They have added another layer of entitlement spending that costs $50 billion a year called Medicare Prescription, NOT PAID FOR.

Mandated $4 billion a year in ethanol subsidies, as well as drastically increased cotton, sugar, soybean, corn, wheat handouts, NOT PAID FOR.

Doubled the size of the Department of Education, NOT PAID FOR.

How would you pay for all this spending? It took 210 years for the first $5 trillion and debt and only 7 years of Republican control to double it. It's nigh time for some fiscal Republicanism.

Zapdoodat
Don't blame me. I haven't voted Republican, or provided financial support since that record pork laden Highway bill about 2003. I do expect new deficit records momentarily, particularly as the dollar is headed south, inflation is on the way, and paper debt will go through the roof.

Government Will Make Us All Better!
There's very few Congressmen with good sense that are shouting, don't release the TARP until there are plans in place and distribute it after a plan is submitted and approved which is how businesses run, but then it's not their money that they're throwing around - it belongs to the U.S. taxpayers whose grandkids and great gradkids will inherit this economic nightmare for generations to come because the American people can't pay back billions of dollars every year on trillions of dollars so the principle will remain the anchor around the country's neck. I hope for the sake of our country, it's not going to be anchor's away - since the government can't even tell us what happened to the billions they've already handed out to the banks who aren't telling. And, there's trillions that haven't been accounted for on the books and remain a mystery. So as one reporter wrote for a major newspaper, "Good Luck!"

zap
You are still confused. The federal debt when the Republicans took over in 2000 was $5 trillion. In 6 years under Bush the debt increased by $2.6 trillion. In the two years of Democratic control of Congress, which controls all spending, the debt increased by $2.4 trillion. Obama's proposal will next year add another $2 trillion on top of that. The Democrats like to spend even more than the spend drunk Republicans. Do you really think that the Democrats and Obama will get spending under control in the next 4, 8, 12 or even 16 years? We need to throw all of the bums out in both parties that spend, control, tax, and then spend more, control more, and tax even more. Until that happens expect things to get much worse.

Zap one more thing.
Since we are listing government programs that are not fully paid for lets list the Democratic programs:
1) Social Security - Greatest Ponzi scheme ever devised and what is going to happen in less than 12 years when all of these people are going to retire expecting SS to take care of them.
2) Welfare - War was declared on poverty under LBJ. Where is the exit strategy? Have we won yet?
3) Medicare/Medicade - Another massive underfunded mandate that is $56 trillion in the hole. Pales in comparison to your $50 billion expansion drug expansion program(I believe this is a mistake also).

These alone makes your listings small.

Hey folks-
We're in for a rough time ahead. Either way, we gotta pay. Buth the REAL problem is, Who makes these decisions, We the People or the elected elite?
If the feds are authorizing the money, we pay, but with Gohmert's plan is We the People will make the dicisions; spending based on PERSONAL decisions, not based on political favors.

It'll be a SuperBowl win in Buffalo when Congress actually gives up power "To the People"
Write, e-mail, and phone your congressman and senators. Overload them with YOUR opinions, Remember, we are the ones that can fire them in 2 years.

there is another stimulus plan
All of these handouts have become the equivalent of pigs running toward the trough to get their share first. If you think any of these trillions of $$ will trickle down to us then I want some of what you're smoking. Ditto if you think Gohmert's plan will get anything other than a snicker rolling across all 534 seats around him. Face it folks they have us by the balls and they don't give a s**t what we think.

The truth behind income tax
I came apon a very interesting video called The Truth Behind the Income Tax. It is lengthy, but It's very informative. It's at: http://piercingtheillusion.org/joomla/index.php?option=com _content&view=article&id=18&Itemid=13

Sorry Neil...
...but that plan is just too darn logical to pass muster under seahag Pelosi's Congress.

Good idea, Neal...
...that's why the incompetent idiots in Washington will neever consider it.

Insomnia
I'm guessing that very few politicians read this stuff since they seem to spend every moment trying to get re-elected. It is interesting for some of us in that it most definitely proves that our education system isn't working. Home school your kids, keep voting against incumbents and write your representatives and senators and tell them to replace income tax with a consumption tax. Don't hold your breath though as really good ideas don't seem to take hold. I guess I'll keep golfing, fly-fishing and traveling.

"Tax tax tax,spend spend spend,...
...elect elect elect".

That has been the Democrat mantra since the 1930's for one simple reason: IT WORKS!

Brilliant Boortz
As usual. Now is the time for freedom loving people to rise up and stop the oppressor. Every which way that you can. Govt. as it exists today must cease to exist, or we will as a free people. Simple as that.

Stimulus spending
In my opinion it really won't matter which plan you like because the economy will correct itself no matter what government plans to do. Its going to the bottom and we're going to take the rest of the world with us. The whole infusion of money into the lending institutions was for one thing only, to get the consumer back on the borrow and spend merry-go-round. If you notice its the exact model the government uses. All of this has an outcome based on our history. It has never worked anywhere its been tried and believe it or not we are not smart enough to make it work now. ALL of the money we can find won't fix this, it will just prolong the misery and wealth envy.

"we is in deep doo doo"
"In an interview taped for ABC News on Saturday, Obama said he wants targeted tax cuts and conceded it will be difficult to enforce his pledge to ban lawmakers from including unessential "earmarked" spending projects for their districts."

Brother, can you spake a trillion
Boy, Ma Government sure likes spending money in the name of whatever is handy. Somehow work avoiding bureaucrats having endless committee meetings, sick days, and sleeping sessions at the computers isn't likely to get the rest of us to work hard and spend money (except in the form of higher taxes. Joe Stalin and his good friend tried that stuff out already. Europe when half way there and so her economy is forever lagging.

Instead of trotting out that tired sky is falling rationale for another pork trough government grab for power, let's take cap gains to zero, let's have absolute free trade, let's take the top marginal rate to Reagan's 27 percent and let's end the death tax and all fees. Meanwhile, let pair domestic spending by 50 percent. Oh, and to stimulate the housing market, let's let anyone without a criminal conviction buy houses for cash here in exchange for a green card and a path to citizen ship.

Neil's plan works best, esp if.....
.........part of the tax cut becomes permanent, and when it becomes permanent, govt would cut their own pay and benefits 10% to help the future budgets. But Obama wouldn't like this plan. Too simple, and doesn't fit his lifelong mantra of wanting our economic system to be more "fair".
Trust me on this, and Neil knows it too.......Obama wants MORE income-transfer via the tax system......from higher-earners to poor folks.
We are screwed. This recession will get worse and worse because of what Obama wants and will make happen. Unfortunately he has a willing suicidal MSM to help him continue to "sell" his idea to the country.
He only cares about selling it to a slight majority of the country.

Tax Holiday
It is a great idea, but congress would not be able to handle the howls when workers started having taxes taken out again. That would be the awakening of the public on how deep the govt has their hand in our pockets. Not that it would be a bad thing.....good start for a tax revolt.

Typical Republocrat Response
Fiscal conservative, not hardly.

Allowing taxes to be cut without cutting budget becomes a disaster in the long run. Reasgan forgot to do that. He cut regulation and gave tax cuts. Regulation is like cutting spending but not far enough.

Yes, the good part is people would not want to be taxed again. Join End the Fed by signing up the petition if you want a real tax cut.

A Better Stimulus Plan
I like it! Except that bloated government must be forced to simultaneously reduce spending, maybe not by $800B, but substantially to a lean and more efficient bureaucracy. Pipe dream? Not if the people actually demonstrate their concerted will.

A Better Stimulus Plan?
Darn tootin'! The “recovery plan” (aka, bailout) and the “stimulus package” (aka, mega load of garbage) is nothing less than an advanced taxing scheme without representation.

Why not do both?
No tax plus government new spending!
Hurray, money grows on trees! It just shrinks in value as the quantity increases. Is that new?

TAX HOLIDAY? NEVER HAPPEN
The last thing the defenders of big government will do is allow a tax holiday. Invite a tax revolt after all the thousand of pages of rules and regulations they have imposed to perfect the economic slavery we suffer so willingly? Not on your life. If the Republicans who espouse the ideals of freedom and smaller government ever wanted a cut and dried issue to champion their cause this one is made to order but alas I fear they have, for the most part, sold their souls to the Devil.

Zap
so zap, by your own logic, Bush didn't spend enough?

Love Neal Boortz
I love Neal Boortz, but even he knows that 50% of the American public learned how to vote their fingers into the treasury. It's not the socialist politicians in the Republican and Democrat Parties, it's the socialists voting that don't want to work and want Peter to rob Paul for their economic benefit. We are becoming Sweden.....

There's a better stimulus plan out there
That's right Neal.

There is a better stimulus plan out there.

It's yours and Congressman John Linder's plan.

IT'S CALLED THE FAIRTAX.

I agree
You can vote for Gohmert's plan somewhere on the web, I did. I fear that yes, this is way too logical and therefore we are being taken for a ride. There has been zero accountability for the money already doled out. Is that what people want? To blindly be led?

Are We State Owned Yet?
You do realize that when the government gives you money you are under their control? They make the rules, you follow them. We the People no longer means freedom from government, it means freedom dictated by government.

Wake Up America for your childre!

Obana is not interested in our ideas
He is not even interested in telling us his. Witness the "Joe the Plumber" fiasco.

Six Month Tax Holiday
The CEOs we have gifted with millions in dollars of bonuses would love the plan. Those who are now out of work would not fare as well. This plan is worthy of Gohmert Pyle.

Someone's Finally Listening to Me
I've been saying tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts since the 80s. But taxes should be cut permanently.

Everyone knows that tax cuts result in increased tax revenues. Imagine reducing the tax rate to 0% for five months. Total tax revenues will go through the roof.

Right?

Power to the people? Or to government?
And the answer is.....

The Government. The people that are voting to increase government will not be the ones that benefit from a tax holiday. So these wonderful citizens will want to empower the government so they can get their miserable little crumb from the table of fat cat politicians. Our country is sooooooooooo scr*wed.

Bad Idea Neal
What would people do with the money?
They's buy products made in China. China would get the money with your idea.

Government policy of any kind will not solve our economic problem.

The problem is in our manufacturing industry. We can't compete, so the wealth we used to create in US factories goes abroad.

The only way to recover is to increase industrial productivity so products made in the USA are a better value than those made in China.

It's not a matter of politics. It's a matter of productivity, Neal.

5 month tax holiday
The first problem for Democrats is that their constituency will not get much of the money. It would be labeled as "tax breaks for the rich" (taxpayers would get the money). That will never work as the whole purpose of any "stimulus" is to payoff the Democrat constituency. The non-taxpayers get the same as taxpayers and it is a check that all but has Obama's picture on it. There are mayors and governors to pay back for support. This will come as funds for "infrastructure improvements" but will really be massive payback for Obama support. Obama claims there will be no earmarks because the entire bill will be one gigantic earmark for political support. Democrats will never, ever allow tax cuts that will not be accompanied by a message of "this is what we gave you.

A tax holiday would also make taxpayers realize how much money is being paid out in taxes every month and after five months would see the actual pinch government takes out of their financial lives. A tax revolt would be much easier to orchestrate by conservatives.

There is no plus in a tax holiday for liberals. It will never happen.

Tax holiday
is my preferance for everyone for a full year. In this way, voters can plan to buy that car or buy that house which a 2 month holiday fwouldn't do.

Obama the "Ice Cream Man"
CIVICS 101 3rd GRADE
From a teacher in the Nashville area

We are worried about "the cow" when it is all about the "Ice Cream"

The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade this year. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president.

We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.

The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother.

The day arrived when they were to make their speeches Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Every one applauded. He sat down and Olivia came to the podium.

Her speech was concise. She said, "If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream." She sat down. The class went wild. "Yes! Yes! We want ice cream."

She surely would say more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it. She didn't know. The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream.

Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a land slide.

Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream, fifty percent of the people react like nine year olds. They want ice cream. The other fifty percent know they're going to have to feed the cow and clean up the mess.

Stupid idea from an idiot
Boortz loves to tell people how stupid most Americans are when it comes to economics and he proves his own ignorance here with this:

"The government prints $800 billion to replace the lost tax revenue needed for ordinary government expenses while people are spending the money they earned to stimulate our economy. Plan adds $800 billion in additional debt."

Yep, sheer brilliance on Neal's part. It doesn't occur to this moron that printing up fiat money will cause more inflation on top of the inflation that is coming down the pike due to the Bush, Paulson and Bernanke bail outs of their Wall Street buddies with the approval of the criminals in Congress.

Well, I don't expect much from Neal. He did say one time, quoting Cheney approvingly, that deficits don't matter.

The only thing he does have right is the idea of removing the Federal withholding tax and making it pay as you go. If folks realized just how badly they were being screwed by both corrupt parties there might be some meaningful tax reform like repealing the 16th amendment combined with cutting the hell out of govt. spending. Anything else won't work.

Boortz is a prime example of why I don't waste much time listening to neocon talk radio.

It is not that hard...
I don't know why Americans so readily give-up and decide the politicians (either party) know best. Years ago fighting taxation with at the crux of this country; now we assume it is inevitable.
If we go to a national sales tax, and no other taxes, we would raise the same amount or more in revenue. We would stimulate job growth (new and expansion of current employers); we would capture revenue we currently do not like underground industries, visitors and individuals living and working in this country and NOT paying taxes. This is only a methodology of collecting revenue differently. It does not address the spending side...which we would all agree is too much, but it would increase the transparency of the dollars given to the government and we would be in a position to question the spending side. Just like your checkbook...open it up and it's there in balck and white!
Why wouldn't Americans want 100% of their paycheck? Why wouldn't corporations and small businesses want to end all payroll taxes, complaince, etc.? Employments and new businesses would thrive and America could be on the road to prosperity instead of racking debt bupon debt with no future of payoff.

Tax Holiday is great
There is no chance that the politicians will give up the power of providing handouts to people from them without the handouts what good are they?
The Fair Tax plan is the answer and government is the problem.

the best plan
Sure that little tax vacation would be nice, but here's the best plan; fight, fight, fight until the Federal Government is beaten back to it's Constitutionally defined limits. Nowhere in the Constitution is Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, The Department of Education, and so on. According to Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution Congresses reach is rather limited. So please enough alternative plans when the only acceptable solution is Congress only taking money for what the Constitution says. How much money will that put back in our hands? Also, with the Federal Government not meddling in so many areas where they shouldn't be, will there then be a resultant resurgence?

REVOLT
A little revoltion every now and then is a healthy thing. Don't you think?
-Captain Marco Ramius in "The Hunt for Red October".

I have suggested this
Many times, but it will never happen. Reelection money is the entire purpose of our elected "leaders". Is that money as likely to come from the guy that earns it as from special interests like unions, environmental groups, financial big shots, government contractors, teachers etc? There's your answer, it will never happen.

The Problem with that Brillant idea
The huge problem with Neal Boortz "brilliant" idea is ....... Obama or any Politicians from either party are not brilliant or even somewhat smart or posse any common sense and tend to have a '' fetish "when they get to Washington to do the totally wrong (reverse or completely opposite ) thing for Personal or Political gain .
Proof you ask ? We are restarting those Sub Prime loans all over again even though they failed miserably and many we have learned
never paid a penny toward a mortgage payment or a dime down . Yet they are going to be '' refinanced "by Tax payers a second time ?
Wrong ... Wrong ..... Wrong !
Not to mention the Job market is far worse than 3-6 years ago when those loans were given out like free Pop Corn .
Earth to Congress .... Have you ever heard of Apt. living for those that could not afford Home Ownership like America has done for over a 100 Years .
From a Economics point of view , Neal Boortz Plan makes sense ...... sense it puts money "Instantly " into our Economy and does not raise the GDP or Huge Foreign loan debt problems we are now facing . Money going into Education and Building could take many years we don't have sitting on a power keg in America plus we already spend more money on education than all but two countries in the world does now .
Of course Obama will do his Political agenda thing Boortz points out all along sadly .

NEWS ALERT
Sorry to interrupt, but has anyone noticed, besides local police, the vast numbers of 'hatefilled' people protesting and condeming Israel and supporting Hamas?
Groups of hundreds in various cities in our Nation, congregating together, shouting and waving "Go back to the Oven' signs. Large numbers of police are having to monitor these protests due to the potential outbreak of violence. Just who and what are the police there to protect? Is it the hatefilled agitators and their freedom of (hate) speech, or the citizens of our Country being disrupted by them?
I thought we had laws regarding 'public nuisance' or inciting potential riots?
It also makes me wonder (and be extremely concerned about), just how many people living in our Country, who given the stimulus or 'word' would become 'violent' enemies of our Country.

Better yet, the Stimulus Plan you posted should be the American taxpayers Stimulus Plan for all politicians.

SILLY DAY DREAMS

Almost, Neal.

Neal, buddy... you almost got it right.

You write that the government would have to print $800 bil. to replace the revenues lost from a six-month tax holiday.

Sorry... factually and historically INcorrect.

Each and EVERY time that tax rates have been lowered, revenues to government coffers have gone UP. Notice that I said... every time. Go ahead, Google it.

Even John F. Kennedy, a Democrat, knew that "a rising tide lifts all boats" when he cut taxes as our president.

So $800 bil. will NOT have to be printed. Most likely very little, and maybe even none.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it; tax cuts for the "rich" mean more JOBS!!!

In other words, when was the last time you got a real job from a poor guy???

And small businesses provide over 80% of all new jobs in our country.

And more jobs means increased demand and a growing and a thriving economy.

AND everyone wins.

Anyone remember????
When GOP had control of congress.....Dems demanded a pay / go solution to each new request for tax decreases, or spending. The word "dangerous" was incessantly bantered.

Now the Dums have control.......where is the plan??? Who's gonna pay? Now the only time "Dangerous" is bantered about is when they "DON'T" get more money to spend............

More hipocrisy.......

No, Boortz's plan makes too much sense....if the gov't is going to print more money, give it right to the people who can do with it what they deem necessary.

The government has proven time and time and time and time again that they cannot do anything better than free markets.........

The Federal Reserve
They control our money supply. Our Income taxes pay the interest on the money the Feds put into circulation. Taxation is for the purpose of removing money from the economy; reducing inflationary influences and "redistribution of wealth"

The Federal Reserve is a PRIVATE bank to which the US government is beholden. Go ahead. Check it out. The GAO has never been able to do an audit of the Reserve because they are a private company. They make money the old fashioned way- they print it.

Granite Eagle
"Who's gonna pay?"

Stoic words indeed, where were you when the Republicans were spending like drunken sailors?

Meaning of program
BO doesn't intend to aid the economy except as it might or might not aid. He intends to use the government to take over lives and freedoms. Any enoncomic aid will be an accident if it works at all.

But it makes a good way to obscure the truth, doesn't it?

h20skier
"In the two years of Democratic control of Congress, which controls all spending"

It was the Republican-controlled Congress of the 1990's, six of Bubba's eight years had a Republican Speaker of the House, the last six and most important.

Those Clinton administration defense cuts were actually Republican-controlled Congress defense cuts. These defense cuts put this nation in grave danger and led to 911. This country was unprepared because of Republican defense cuts.

If you want America put in danger, then vote Republican.

To put it more bluntly, Demoncrat-controlled Congress, you lose some money in the stock market. Republican-controlled Congress, your children may die.

Scrap Iron
You are correct. The Federal Reserve was given away by FDR to - his family among others. They sold it to the Rothchilds in the Netherlands. They run most of the money world-wide. That is one reason Russia has refused to allow trading in the ruble.

All money - and control of money - does not belong to the U.S. government. In Texas, it is not even legal to use it to pay off fines, taxes, etc. since the law calls for money issued by our govnerment. But it is still used.

Heres a brilliant nugget
Members of Congress each will receive a $4,700 pay raise this month, which will give them a salary of $174,000 per year.

Do you think they are worth it?

Who among us is getting another $4700 in this economy......moreover they are getting another $4700 for doing one of the worst jobs in the recent history of congress.......

Where I come from, if your approval rating is below a D-, which the congressional rating is, you would be out of a job (unless you are union, in which case you would get a raise)......but then again I work in that nasty, corrupt, unfettered captitalistic dark underworld known as private enterprise.....where we work for *gasp* profits, increased earnings and bonuses.....

Stoic words indeed, where were you when the Republicans were spending like drunken sailors?

Where was I? Pulling my hair out, writing my congressmen, writing my senators, trying to figure why the former party of small government went off the reservation........

At least I question it........dems on the other hand?
Its a caste system....born a democrat....born to spend and tax.....

Why to dems insist on punishing the successful in the country??

Something to consider...
This is not really about political parties, as both are responsible for the problems we now face. This is about the elected officials within those parties who have taxed us and spent far too much.

I expect the mainstream media to fully "investigate" Rep. Gohmert, and his reputation will be trashed before long.

Granite Eagle
"Why to dems insist on punishing the successful in the country?"

And so do Republicans!

John McCain said, "I'm going to spend $300 billion, and help homeowners who can't afford their mortgage."

Where's this money going to come from? From the taxpayer(Democrat-style) or just borrow more from China and other countries. (Republican-style)

I live in a condo with the mortgage paid off. Why should income be redistributed from me to someone living in a $500,000 house they can't afford?

Who would have paid for John McCain's Socialist Republican mortgage bailout?

And please don't play the victim card by blaming the MSM for electing the Republican nominee. That is gutless!

Granite Eagle
Republicans are Socialists.

Pork barrel spending redistributes wealth from people who have no political connections to people who do. Plain and simple. As we conservatives know pork-barrel spending increased under Republican rule from 2001-2006.

My only problem with the column.....
NO CHART!

Come on....you tease us by saying you would have a chart then give us no chart to drol over.

All these complicated words confuse the politicians that is why they love charts, or pictures (and short simple sound bites).

Now, on a serious note,

Here is a GREAT quote which I feel sums up our situation so well;

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything
that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them , and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good
to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

~~~~The late Dr. Adrian Rogers, 1931 – 2005~~~~
Make it permanent
A full year is nearly $2 trillion. Cut spending by $2.5 trillion to compensate (we don't need them borrowing money on the backs of people that didn't elect them, ie, the unborn and today's youth).
Only Morons would by into this
Tell me republican morons when gas went over 4 dollars a gallon and Exxon was making record profits did they trickle the wealth down to you?
I promise one thing about the bail out plan. When Obama becomes President the bail outs will help the middle and working class. Unlike the Bush bail out to the banks.
Carol Browner
Obama Energy Czar Socialist Group Member
By NewsGuy
US president-elect Barack Obama’s so-called “climate czar” Carol Browner has been exposed as being a member of Socialist International, a highly influential group that advocates the implementation of global government.
Links of Browner to Socialist International have been scrubbedfrom their site, but a cached versionshows her membership to the organization. Browner also ran the EPA during the Clinton Administration from 1993-2001, the longest-serving Administrator in the agency’s history...continued
Who do you think will get the money Obama is going to take from us? Mexico and China. China because everything we buy now is made there. Mexico because all the work that will be done will be performed by illegal Mexican immigrants. You know, those honest, hardworking folks who "just want to put bread on the table?" Those who broke the law to get in and continue to break the law by staying here.
If any of you think you're going to get any of this money, think again. It ain't gonna happen.
Rowly
"has been exposed as being a member of Socialist International"
Republicans have been exposed as being Socialists.
Republicans have many brands of socialism of their own. Of course, they never talk about them, but nevertheless, it comes in many forms. One form is bailing out huge companies. Take AIG, for example, they have now sucked at the teat of the government sow to the tune of $150 billion. That's $500 smackeroos per American.
This Republican give-away takes money from all Americans and gives it to the executives who have successfully run AIG into the ground. AIG is the insurance giant, that once they got their greedy hands on some taxpayer's money, went to a fancy spa, got rub-downs and drank fine champagne. Executives in this fine company are increasing their deferred compensation and giving themselves bonuses. Talk about feeding at the government trough. George Bush, Hank Paulson and Ben Bernanke certainly know how to take care of their friends.
In sum, it is yet another Republican example of the ruthless expropriation of wealth from the American downtrodden toiling strata to those in the upper strata.
Way to go, CJ!
The only change I would suggest is to make it NOT a sales tax but a Value Added Tax. The difference may seem to be non-existent but, if you only tax at the point of retail sales, you miss a great many transactions - black market, smuggled goods,
I don't remember the details but someone in Congress suggested such a tax during recent years. The idea was to tax a product or material at the point where it enters the country, is brought into being and when it is sold. The tax becomes a part of the cost of the item and the enforcement by government is at the creation level thereby relieving individual citizens from facing the weight and might of the federal government for enforcement.
Wish I knew more about it but I don't I still think that something should be developed where the IRS or any other government agency cannot act directly against indiviuals for enforcment. And it should not punish people for superior performance as our graduated income tax does.
Dollar Bill - Remember Thomas Jefferson
who said that the republic should be refreshed about every twenty years by the blood of rebellion. Or something like that.
How convenient that you left out the Fairness in Lending Act by Frank, Dodd, Durbin, Pelosi Etc. I suppose that had nothing to do with our cuttent ecomony. Its the NUMBER ONE reason we're in this mess and you don't mention it eh?? Let me guess.......your a Democrat??????
What a suprise. Those things you mentioned are nothing compared to the effects of the sub prime loans that DEMOCRATs (Frank) pushed through and blocked regulation of in 03 & 05. Your Dems pals ALL voted for the conflict in Iraq too. Your very partisan.
Nice try though.
lucky and gordon
The cost of our government is $10,000 per person per year in the USA.
That's $3 trillion divided by 300 million Americans. George Bush and his Republican enablers, did jack-squat to diminish government. He presided over the largest increase in government since LBJ's 'Great Society.'
Additionally, the Republicans controlled the House from January, 1995 through January of just last year. The US Constitution gives Congress the 'power to tax and to spend.'
If you want to blame someone for the state of affairs in taxing and spending in today's government, have your favorite Republican, yourself, for example, look in the mirror.
Stimulation?
This nation and its economy can be restored. It will not be easy and it will not be quick. But it can be done if all of you have the stomach and the will for it.
It must start with the re-election process becuase that is where all the problems start. Candidates, lie, cheat, steal, spend money and raise taxes to fulfill some of their promises in order to get re-elected.
How do you stop that? Don't ever vote for an incumbant! No matter how much you may like the person - no matter if they actually did some good or not - don't ever send anyone back to government for a second time. Ever.
Once politicians learn that they will not get a second chance, they may spend their time in office working on the problems instead of getting re-elected.
Yes, I know - they need more then one term to "learn the job." Well, I don't want them to learn the job. That's how we get screwed. Once they "learn the job" they begin to work toward re-election and, as I said, that is where our problems begin.
Paul wrote;
"Tell me republican morons when gas went over 4 dollars a gallon and Exxon was making record profits did they trickle the wealth down to you?"
OK,
When the shares for those companies went up every share holder saw the value of their investments go up, and those who sold their shares while the price was high made money.
Many people who work are/were share holders and didn't even know it because all funds invested in 401K's is invested in buying and selling shares of stock or bonds which is how they earn the interest which is then paid to the 401K holder.
That process is what made Warren Buffet a billionaire. Isn't he the Liberal golden boy because of his support for higher taxes?
I'm not in the industry but I understand it enough to know your statement demonstrates your lack of knowledge (ignorance) or your biased position which causes you to mis-state the facts.
Your attack on the market and those who support the idea of letting it work with minimal government intrusion fails on so many levels.
Better....
Hmmm,
Maybe we can 'sell' this plan to the Brits. Then, if they'll bite, the Obama Admin. might think its feasible. The DC 'thinktank' wouldn't want to concede that the american public actually 'knows best.'
"too many bleaters who want to suckle big mommas teat."
Amen bro! Time to get the American farmer off of that teat.
Republicans did have the 'audacity' to increase farm subsidies from 2001-2007 to the princely sum of $34 billion a year.
We have ethanol mandates, sugar, cotton, soybean, wheat and many more agricultural handouts for the Midwest. These teat-suckers need to get their mouths off the nipples of the government sow. This is a Republican wealth-redistribution program from America's east and west coasts to America's heartland, with America's heartlands values.
Why would one believe that sugar should be subsidized, unless, of course, you are a dentist?
Why should cotton be subsidized, since most of it is exported, the number one importer of cotton is China? Who believes that Chinese manufacturing should be subsidized by the American taxpayer?
It takes a gallon of oil to make a gallon of ethanol. No more mandates! If an American farmer can't compete in the global marketplace, then they can always get a job at Walmart, as a 'greeter.'
RE: CJ #41
I totally agree with your idea CJ.. a national sales tax and abolishing the income/business tax is the way to go.. Tax consumption not production.. and it would be naturally progressive as the more money you have (the rich) the more you consume.. ergo the more tax you pay.. of course, since we all would keep more of what we make.. we would all become "richer" and spend more.. putting more of that money into the economy and ensuring more taxes paid into the system as well.. I think this would also eliminate some of the "class warfare" aspect of the current system of taxation, as the system would not be taking earnings away from a portion of the population, but rather their spendings.. but back to the real world.. nice pipe dream but it will never happen, the current tax system is way too entrenched, imagine the cries if all those IRS lackies had to find new jobs haha
Obama the incompetent
When you "jump start" a car and don't fix whatever it is that drained the battery in the first place you're just going to be stalled again the next time you turn off the ignition.
Barack Obama demonstrated his ignorance of how automobiles work during the campaign when he talked about getting "tune-ups" and checking our tire pressure as substitutes for drilling for more oil.
So it shouldn't surprise us that Obama thinks he can "jump start" the economy without fixing what broke it and that will solve the problem.
Obama is not going to repeal the Community Reinvestment Act or the Fairness in Lending Act. He's not going to reorganize Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, and he's not going to investigate and prosecute thieves like Franklin Raines.
Worse, he's going to let the Bush Tax cuts expire instead of making them permanent.
Obama says "only gov't" can solve this economic crisis. The opposite is true. Only gov't could have caused this crisis, and only more stupid gov't can sustain this recession or turn it into a depression.
The next time you're tempted to believe Obama when he says the economy in this county grows from the bottom up ask yourself if you've ever been hired by someone who earned less money than you did.
A concentration of wealth
Supply side economics has lead to a borrow and spend government. You see stupid Republicans when you borrow from the rich instead of taxing them it leads to runnaway deficits like we had under Reagan and Bush senior and again under Bush Junior.
But you stupid Republicans don't understand. Bush has lead us into the mess we are in and all the Repubicans do is scratch their heads and ask them selves what went wrong.
I tell you what Republican Morons come back in four years and we will compare the state of the economy with Bush and Obama.
Another flaw
A major goal of Obama's plan is to march our country inexorably towards his vision of a Marxist state. The economic "crisis" is just a good opportunity to rally people behind him, not knowing what he is really up to. Kind of like the election.
Re: The Plan!!
Yeah it is called TAX CUTS and get the heck out of the cookie jar and let FREE ENTERPRISE work!!! But for socialists like Socialist Joe and Dodd, Frump(Frank), Pelsloppy(Pelosi),and Weird(Reid) they just can't stand their communist little selves to stay out of it!!!
The thing I can’t believe is that some imbeciles actually think economic stability can come from more debt.
Can you imagine a family deciding to run out and buy two new cars when discovering that their chief bread winner had just lost his/her job?!! Who would do that? And yet, people in this country think that our government can save us by borrowing more money on their already maxed out credit resources.
Oh well, I guess these are the same people who bought new houses under the assumption that they could make house payments equal to half their monthly income or bought the “adjustable rate” fallacy that they would “most certainly” be making more money in four or five years when their payments went up. I guess they also never figured their property taxes might increase.
Puts the old saying about lunatics running the asylum into perspective, doesn’t it?
M Sederoff
Thank you! As a Conseravtive Republican I am NO big fan of Pre Bush BUT he did not develop OR push the sub prime loans and they have caused this economy more stress than anything. To talk down this economy with no mention of the Pelosi Posse (Frank, Dodd, Durbin, Pelosi etc) is comical and to think that "only govt action can bring us out of this" is idiotic.
Govt IS the problem and getting them out of our lives is the solution. Boortz's plan may not be perfect but is it far and away better than any Obama stimulous plan.
The Blame Game…
Everyone wants to blame the politicians and rightfully so…yet who put them there to be blamed…WE THE PEOPLE! Only we the people can correct this mess, the politicians most certainly will not.
THE BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA PLAN
In the beginning was the Obama Plan (Change We Can Believe In!). And then came the Obama Assumptions. And the Obama Assumptions were without form. And the Obama Plan was without substance. And darkness fell upon the face of the Voters.
And the Voters spoke amongst themselves, saying, “This is a crock of you know what, and it stinks.” And the Voters went unto their Party Supervisors and said, “It is a pail of dung, and we can't live with the smell.”
And the Party Supervisors went unto their Party Managers, saying, “It is a container of excrement, and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it.” And the Party Managers went unto their Party Directors, saying, “It is a vessel of fertilizer, and none may abide its’ strength.”
And the Party Directors spoke amongst themselves, saying to one another, “It contains that which aids Plant growth; and it is very strong.” And the Party Directors went to Joe Biden, saying unto him, “It promotes growth and it is very powerful.”
And Joe Biden went to Barack Obama, saying unto him, “This new Plan will actively promote the growth and vigor of the Nation with very powerful effects.”
And Barack Obama looked upon the Plan and saw that it was good.
And the Plan became Policy.
And that, my friends, is how; “you know what” happens.
Capitalism is Economic Democracy
The free market simply means that you get to choose what to buy and choose what to produce. Any government, including a government by the people, consists of fewer people than ALL the people - that is, all branches of federal, state and local government combined is not as many people as the entire population. So government interference in the economy simply means that a smaller number of people determine what the greater number of people buys or produces. Government regulation thus decreases freedom. Capitalism is simply the economic face of democracy.
Permanent.
Permanent tax cuts will change the economy for the better. Short term will do nothing but give people time to straighten up their acts. But I do think a revolt would be in store. I've had enough.
A real simple And direct stimulous plan.
Why not give each of the auto makers purchase orders for replacement of the thousands of Jeeps, Humvees, SUVs, and trucks that have been lost in Iraq or Afhganistan or that otherwise are worn out? Also, why not orders to replace police vehicles for the States?
Talk about shovel-ready! All the auto manufacturers need to do is flip a few switches!
Finally, Neal!...
I don't always agree with Mr. Boortz, as he may be rather "boorish" on the radio, but "bravo!" to his explanation of his view of a real simple stimulus plan. Makes perfect sense to me (center, leaning 5% to the left).
Two questions: What about those individuals who don't have jobs due to the faltering economy? Obviously they don't have payroll taxes taken out because they're not getting paid! How does this plan ensure job growth so that these individuals take part?
Thanks for your insight, Neal.
RYAN WRITES
**** Stupid idea from an idiot
Boortz loves to tell people how stupid most Americans are when it comes to economics and he proves his own ignorance here with this:
"The government prints $800 billion to replace the lost tax revenue needed for ordinary government expenses while people are spending the money they earned to stimulate our economy. Plan adds $800 billion in additional debt."
Yep, sheer brilliance on Neal's part.
Boortz is a prime example of why I don't waste much time listening to neocon talk radio. ****
an assignment for conservatives
OK, here's what conservatives need to do if they're going to persuade me of the merits of their free market theorizing:
1. All of you, starting now, refuse any and all benefits you get from the federal government.
2. All of you refuse to collect your Social Security checks--after all the money has been extorted by means of the payroll deduction.
3. All of you pay for Grandma's health care out of your own pockets--no Medicare allowed.
4. All of you refuse to claim the interest on your home mortages on your federal income tax. Don't be a welfare state suck-up.
5. All of you conservative small businesspeople, make dam* sure you don't get any low interest federal loans. At all. Nada.
6. All of you--right now--stop ddriving on those roads that are supported by various federal and state taxes. Drive only on toll roads run by private companies.
7. All of you conservatives out there in high ttech R&D--return the grants that both university and private corporate researchers get from the feds--now.
Start doing all this and maybe I'll listen to your free market whines more sympathetically. Otherwise, I know some words to call you that aren't very nice.
Thank you.
You have it exactly right.
The Democrats never once made a serious effort to balance the budget in the 40 years they controlled Congress before 1995.
And even though they have made a lot of noise about "fiscal responsibility" since the GOP balanced the budgets from '95 thru '00, the budgets passed by the Dems since they regained control in '07 are more bloated than ever and will continue to be so.
Democrat "fiscal responsibility" consists of allowing the GOP to balance the budget as long as taxes are raised (as under Clinton) and the only spending that gets cut is the military. Then they claim the credit for it when the GOP is able to balance the budget in spite of obstruction caused by a Democrat President.
Don't even suggest to them that one way to balance the budget would be to reduce entitlement spending.
And don't dream that they will ever understand the concept of dynamic scoring that explains why revenue to the Treasury from taxes increased when tax rates were cut by JFK, RWR, and GWB.
The Old Fart
Georgia
For M Sederoff and Thomas
M Sederoff:
We used to have a mechanism in place that prevented a family from buying a house or a car they couldn't afford. It was called the free market. Lenders knew if they gave loans to people who couldn't or wouldn't pay them back they would lose money. Becaue of thei loans only went to borrowers who could show they were credit-worthy.
Enter the Democrats and their definition of "fair". To Democrats "fair" means everyone gets the same thing, whether they have earned it or not. In order to convince lenders to loan money to bad risks they promised to buy the paper and they also promised to punish lenders who refused to cooperate.
13 years later it all comes up a-crapper and who do they blame? GWB.
Thomas,
Boortz came up with a better plan than Obama because Boortz, a conservative, genuinely wants to fix the economy. Obama, a liberal politician, must have a 'plan' that gives money to his constituents while trying to fix the economy without admitting that it was liberal, not conservative, policies that wrecked it.
Insults & Epithets
Most of you have no interest in solving anything. You just want to call each other names and hurl insults. (from the physical safely of your secret places with total anonymity, I might add.)
Stupid, idiot, moron and other cute recently created names you call each other. Many of you are more concerned with blaming the opposition party for everything rather than conducting any valid investigation to determine what really brought us to where we are.
I'm sick of both our "major" parties. They have both double-crossed me. And this past election year I was told by both Democrats and Republicans that I could pretty much kiss their colletive asses because the party leaders hand picked their favorites and spend all of their money, energy and efforts at promoting only those two when most of us wanted neither of them.
Well, probably I'm wrong about PEBO since it seems that so many of the liberals clearly admire him and think that he really is the answer. But I know many liberals who did not support PEBO and worked very hard in support of Hillary and others.
So what in the world are you all talking about? Oh, yeah. Insults, epithets and other antagonistic accusations designed only to divide us still futher. If any of you really want to solve our problems, I suggest you grow up.
Better stimulus plan
To mij61, I'm somewhat familiar with 'Save-a-Patriot'. Agree in total with their idea. A couple of my friends who will remain un-named no longer pay income tax. They simply and forthrightly refused. This organization guided them through the litigation. It was a brutal battle but they emerged victorious. The video by Save-a-patriot was a shocker because I didn't realize the extent of ignorance on the part of American citizens relative to our Republic.
For Gestell
Conservatives don't accept "assignments" from wacko libs such as you.
However, most cons will be happy to accept all of your challenges except one on one condition. We will pay no more federal taxes of any kind. We also want all uncollected SS taxes returned, as well as all unemployment taxes to those of us who've never collected unemployment taxes.
The one exception is that we demand to use roads that our excise taxes and license fees have paid for. Why? The answer is from Rush Limbaugh's website.
"According to the latest figures from the Federal Highway Administration, motorists gave state and local governments $40.3 billion in 2005 for the ability to drive and own a car. ...after accounting for administration and overhead, $28.5 dollars remained for all 50 states to spend in 2005."
"Of the $28.5 billion, only $13 billion was spent on state and local road instruction and maintenance."
You are a typical arrogant liberal dolt Gestell. Your attitude is that our money is really yours, that you can use it for anything you want, and if we don't like it you will cut us off completely.
Or maybe you can explain why federal "administration" of these taxes costs 29% of the take. Maybe you can explain why we should pay $40.3 billion for $13 billion of roads and maintenance.
You and you ilk are arrogant, incompetent, condescending fools and thieves.
You are so stupid you think you can justify 32% efficiency in the use of our tax money by saying, in so many words, 'If you don't like it don't drive.'
Are we listening
I’ve been thinking a lot about our education system in the context of reader comments on the various TH columns and how the education system is failing so I’d like to help those of you who think our system is OK.
First, let k = an individual’s knowledge
Second, let K = the universe of knowledge
Third, Agree that the universe of knowledge grows faster than any individual’s knowledge. That should be easy.
In limit theory, if the numerator grows slower than the denominator, then the fraction k/K has a limit of zero.
Conclusion: As time goes on the limit of our knowledge is zero.
Corollary: As time goes on, you’ll know nothing, so quit while you’re ahead. Don’t read or study since the ultimate end is you will know nothing.
I hope this helps those of you who are frustrated trying to follow what’s going on in politics. TRY NOT TO PAY ATTENTION.
Gutless "Conservatives"
While I am all for reducing and eliminating taxes, I think it is gutless to do so unless you call for at least two other things.
First, you have to demand and get spending cuts that more than offset the tax cuts. For each dollar you allow the taxpayer to keep, you should cut the spending budget by two. This takes guts. There would be terrible howling from all the entrenched pressure groups. This would make you very unpopular. But it's the right thing to do.
Second, you have to get government out of its exclusive power to coin money. Governments inevitably, every time, without exception, will abuse that privilege and inflate. I cannot think of one single exception to this virtual law of nature. Get rid of all legal tender laws, and allow any transactions to be conducted using whatever non-fraudulent medium of exchange the buyer and seller agree to.
This, too, would take guts. It would cut the government out of a lot of transactions. It would force the government to either go for sound money, or get out of the money business entirely. You would be called a lunatic for suggesting such a radical idea. You would be screamed at by special interests that depend on government created inflation. But again, you would be entirely in the right.
Conservatives, and especially Republicans, have been gutless for so long that they don't even suggest such measures.
Paolo,
Good points but I'd like to correct something. Government DOES NOT print the money - they leave that to the unelected, unauthorized and unaccountable central banks. The government (you and me - the taxpayers) "borrows" that money from these private bankers (aka Federal Reserve) so the government can pay interest to these private bankers. The "government" has the constitutional authority and I think the duty to print money but the power brokers in the central bank (aka Federal Reserve)control them.
I can't beleive I actually agree with you wrote:
"
Amen bro! Time to get the American farmer off of that teat."
Double Amen.
"We have ethanol mandates, sugar, cotton, soybean, wheat and many more agricultural handouts for the Midwest. These teat-suckers need to get their mouths off the nipples of the government sow. This is a Republican wealth-redistribution program from America's east and west coasts to America's heartland, with America's heartlands values."
I would add the Democrats support it just as much as the Republicans did. That is why the Republicans got kicked out in 2006. However, the Democrats increased spending even more in 2007 and 2008 that has the deficit really soaring.
Why would one believe that sugar ...cotton ... be subsidized, ?"
Amen to this too.
"No more mandates! If an American farmer can't compete in the global marketplace, then they can always get a job at Walmart, as a 'greeter.'"
If you think the Democrats will stop the above then you are dreaming. We need to throw out all of the current bums, Democrats and Republicans that support all of this useless spending.
1. I pretty much have. I earn to much to qualify for any of the Federal deductions given how things like the AMT offset any dependant or mortgage deductions I may qualify for.
2. I'm not old enough yet, but I'll be glad to refuse to collect, not like at the age 35 I'll have any to collect by the time I'm eligible the way things are going in DC, but for my refusal I demand the Libs return the rate of deduction back to what they promised the tax payers it would be and never exceed when SSI was established....I believe 1 percent of earned income.
3. I am. See she did everything she was told to do in life to ensure she would have security in her retirement, but that puny SSI check, which my monthly withholding more than exceeds, and not needing Medicare since she stays healthy and Grandpa made sure she had private health insurance premiums covered for 20+ years after he passed away.
4. See answer to 1
5. I don't. Not a small business owner.
6. I can't because Government all but killed the possibility of roads being privately owned and operated through regulation. Look at the state of the Rail Roads. Regulated to death for all but shipping of goods and raw materials, now even if we wanted to turn to rail travel as an alternative to cars we can't.
7. I'm not in "high ttech R&D"
But hey, nice try. I guess you have to have something to complain about as we all get to watch and suffer over the next 4 (or more) years as the country is destroyed from with in by the Liberal (Socialist) way of big massive government being the solution to all of mans problems.
Maybe like CARB (California Air Resource Board) you can constantly "change the bar" for your terms so you'll never have to open your mind.
Me, I'm liquidating all my assets, getting rid of all unnecessary possessions, and making myself as mobile and self sufficient as possible, because when the S hits the fan, I'm getting out of the way.
Paul from CA
Haven't the Democrats been in control of Ca forever? Lets see: yes to illegal immigration, yes to tax and spend, yes to no drilling for oil, and yes to many more socialist programs. How is your deficit in that great state? I see your state is asking for a federal bailout. With the Democrats in charge in your state for so long you should have solved all of your problems by now.
More chump change
Ok so what are we talking about for the average American. Two income family say $100,000/ year six months no taxes at approx 30% $15,000.
How about $500,000 per American citizen 18 and over. Get rid of all entitlements.You decide how to use it. When it's gone it's gone your problem. When an American turns 18 they get the money. This is your payment for life. Pays for college, healthcare an expensive sportscar.Think about it. This is a simple solution to all of our problems.
Are Americans Being High Jacked?
Was this no more than a crazy day dream?
What if the American people voted to get on a UFO after they were told that they would be taken care of forever similar to a scene in one of the movies seen in the Twilight Zone? After the Americans agree to get aboard, they learn that the UFO's been high jacked and everyone is told to turn over their wallets, jewelry, property, and jobs, and kids by those who they trusted to lead them into the promised land and take care of them forever. The leaders who the American people thought were their saviors trampled on the U.S. Constitution and eliminated it. The Americans onboard the UFO ended up as slaves similar to the people who were high jacked by their leaders in Third World countries because they wanted change and ended up with unimaginable human suffering because the people didn't bother to investigate the background of their new leader because he was young and spoke articulately and had such charisma. Imagine that there's no way to get off the UFO and the human leader and his associates contorted into aliens like in the story on tv. Does anyone remember that fictional story or how it ended? Hopefully, it wasn't based on a true story.
So, you're trying to tell me that buy into one of those arguments according to which those poor SS recipients just can't say no? Conservatives are for individual responsibility and love to talk tough, so no, you can't get yourself or anybody else off the hook by saying that the mean old liberal government got them addicted to their benefits.
Stand up, stand tall, and refuse every benefit from the government--or confess that you're just another parasite, like all those Medicare recipients, SS beneficiaries, and corporations that get tax breaks.
On Farming
If an American farmer can't compete in the global marketplace, then they can always get a job at Walmart, as a 'greeter.'" says -- h20 skier
I agree, in addition let's remove price regulations as well. It's about time non-farming Americans pay a fair price for their food.
I for one am tired of the government telling me how much my product is worth.
Wiseone on Taxation
So in other words liberal areas reap more benefit from urban/rural American who pay gas tax. Perhaps they should do with out our tax?
After all metro-liberals are always complaining about rural/urban America getting taxpayer help.
Silly? Yes.
The solution?
NO federal income, gas tax, SS tax, FICA, etc... leave my tax dollars to fund local and state issues - let the states fund the constitutional federal programs by vote.
To Gestelle
You clearly know nothing of free markets and Austrian economics. To clarify in advance, I'm a GRASSROOTS Constitutional Conservative. Both parties have failed and the rest of you sheep need to abolish your two-party, lesser of two evils mentality!
1. I have NONE, nor have I ever gotten any. 30% more of my annual salary in pocket should suffice!!
2. No problem. Give me back the 20 years of ILLEGALLY-extorted money on my personal wages, and I'll do just fine.
3. See answer to #2.
4. Ahem, this should NOT even apply...unless of course you would care to debate the legality of the income tax. Don't need tax DEDUCTIONS for something that is already ILLEGAL.
5. Does this also go for minorities who get privileged treatment? Who needs the fed? Don't we have banks for lending purposes? Oh, that’s right. They’re REGULATED by big government!
6. Do you seriously think that toll roads are private company only??? Should I remind you of the great lengths by many states and municipalities to incorporate excessive vehicle taxes and tolls for additional revenue? Think: DC and Rhode Island.
7. Nice try, chap. But you may want to put this one in the direction of an ENTIRE university. Very few, if any individuals get private grants for R&D.
Fact is, you know very little of a free market economy and fail to realize that it's the government meddling dating back to the Federal Reserve Act that has landed is in the position we're in right now. This is a bi-partisan cancer that must be stopped YESTERDAY!!!
Who's had enough?
In particular, note the Continental Congress 2009. Additionally, please read the long list of grievances brought against the federal government (it's called Petition for Redress) that have been outright denied, in US courts, and in violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution.
Lobbing the stink bomb
Boortz's idea sounds good at first, but that one commenter was right when he said that spending itself must be targeted, and that tax holidays aren't really attacking the root. Leaving borrowing aside for now, there appears to be a misconception that, because the lost revenue would be spent better than government would spend it, and would generate more growth, total tax revenues will not only rise, but they will immediately rise so much that they will exceed the revenue that was foregone.
This notion does not follow from the Laffer Curve. Increasing tax revenues while lowering rates is usually something that happens when people become more productive because they get to keep more of what they produce. This change in behavior is not something that is undertaken lightly and quickly, only to be undone after 5 months. There are times when the Laffer curve theory will operate, but 5-month tax holidays that then expire are not among them. There is no guaranteed quantifiable effect on tax revenues. In other words, the tax holiday isn’t going to immediately “pay for itself.”
Absent spending cuts, all such an ad hoc tax holiday would do is make it tougher for the government to run its day-to-day business. Government is running deficits as it is, and has no cushion, and we also don't want Treasury auction sizes jumping up suddenly to account for this one-off event. Just remember, they already have to borrow is it is, with the tax revenue coming in. Without that tax revenue, things might become unbearably tight, and they might literally be unable to function.
What about Ron Paul? He knew about all the problems and how to fix them. He advocated sound money (encourages saving), small government, no undeclared preemptive foreign wars, and obedience to the Constitution. This program would have, and still can, usher in a new era of freedom and prosperity. But the GOP blew it. They had a chance to be real conservatives and they blew it. They blew it.
