Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

It's doubtful that newly appointed CIA Director Leon Panetta, the father of three grown sons, was surprised by the sloppy reporting of a rumor that he has a daughter who likes to hang out with Latin American dictators.

During one of his more recent trips to Washington as head of the Panetta Institute for Public Policy, the former congressman-turned-White House chief of staff under President Clinton remarked to this columnist that back home in California he still enjoyed tending to his family's walnut orchard.

"When I was first elected to Congress, my father said I was perfectly suited for Washington because I've always worked around nuts," he pointed out.

GUARD YOUR GUNS?

Fears of nationalizing major banking institutions aside, "a potential legislative gun rights battle is looming in Washington," warns John Snyder, spokesman for the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and treasurer of the Second Amendment Foundation.

"When President Obama submits his budget blueprint in the near future, the proposal may include language designed specifically to repeal the Tiahrt Amendment," Mr. Snyder says. "This repeal is an action long sought by gun-grabbing politicians, the anti-gun Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and other extremist groups."

Named for Rep. Todd Tiahrt, Kansas Republican, the amendment prohibits third-party use of federal gun-trace data when lawsuits are filed against the firearms industry.

That said, it's worth recalling that Americans are buying more guns these days - lots more. The FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which serves as a strong indicator of actual gun sales, shows that background checks on firearms sales jumped 29 percent last month compared with January 2008.

This followed a 24 percent rise in December and 42 percent jump in November, when a record 1,529,635 background checks were performed.

Constitutional rights under attack by
Liberals from the White House, Congress, and the National Human Rights Association have put those they oppress and oppose Civil Rights protected by CRA 1964, United States Constitution and other federal statutes, regulations and codes. The same parties have filled the courts demanding rights for gay coalitions, illegal aliens, and sexual deviants such as pedophiles, all apart of a writing by Ruth Bader Ginsberg for the Civil Rights Commission. Due Process, justice and the american way have been replaced by bribery by the ACLU, NAACP, PLANNED PARENTHOOD, INSTITUTE FOR JUSTICE, GLAD, LA RAZA, KKK, BLACK PANTHERS THE URBAN LEAGUE and other domestic terroist race baiting non-profit organizations. It is the reason all tax-exemptions should be eliminated and that would end all the law suit abuse by domestic terrorist commmunity organzations, union organizations, and the funding of prejudice religious organizations.

The Tiahrt Amendment
Just to be a little more accurate, the Tiahrt Amendment was passed after attempts by Mayor Bloomberg of NYC, and several anti-gun groups, tried to obtain the ATF trace data to support lawsuits against firearms makers. The objective of the attempts was to obtain information on "crime guns".

The problem with these attempts is that the ATF traces any firearm which comes to the attention of law enforcement. As ATF itself states, the trace data is not confined to firearms used in criminal activity. Traces are often run on firearms which have come to the attention of law enforcement solely because of non-criminal issues. And the use of the data was always supposed to be for law enforcement purposes, not to supply raw data (which isn't really applicable) to lawyers filing suit against manufacturers who are following all laws governing their business.
