Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Throughout his first term, Obama will be constantly pushing truly massive new spending projects. More banking bailouts, the auto bailout, bailouts for other industries, socialized medicine, pork ridden budgets, global warming funds -- it goes on and on. If Republicans oppose those very same massive spending projects, they can make that the core of their campaign in 2010.

Now, some people would say that won't work for three reasons:

1) The American people don't care about pork projects. It is true that few representatives are ever going to lose a state or a district because they voted for too much spending.

But, and this a big but -- what's good for a particular politician on the micro level can be extremely damaging for a political party on a macro level if the behavior spreads.

Put another way, people don't mind when THEIR representative brings home a "Bridge to Nowhere," but boy do they hate the idea of OTHER PEOPLE benefiting from government largesse.

Moreover, with the Democrats in charge, these big spending bills will inevitably be incredibly wasteful and full of corrupt "one hand washes the other" spending. That sort of obscene corruption and grotesque back scratching certainly isn't going to be what most Americans thought Barack meant when he said he was going to "change the way Washington works" and they will be offended by it.

2) The Republicans have no credibility on deficit spending after the Bush years. The GOP's reputation in this area certainly took a huge, much deserved hit during the Bush years.

However, A) Obama is going to be the biggest spending President in American history by far and B) People are going to pay a lot more attention to what happens in 2009 and 2010 than what happened between 2001-2008. If the GOP continues to oppose these wasteful bills as the Democrats continue to support them, the American people will give credit where credit is due for fiscal conservatism. Do keep in mind though, even if the GOP turns into a party-full of Jim DeMints and John Shadeggs, it will take several months for it to fully sink in with the American public after the poor performance of the Bush years.

3) If the American people really cared about spending, they wouldn't have sided so heavily with the Dems in 2008. The Republicans talked a lot about cutting spending and small government issues throughout the Bush years, but they didn't walk the walk. You can't credibly run as a small government, deficit-cutting party when the government expands under your watch and spending explodes.

Granted, the Democrats were even worse, but you can only say, "We're the lesser of two evils" for so long before the voters decide to test that theory. Test it they did in 2008 and I suspect that quite a few of them are already, less than a month into the Obama administration, regretting their decisions.

In addition, there are three other things worth noting:

4) The American people are deeply suspicious of radical change, particularly if it's not bipartisan. As Barack Obama himself has said, he intends to run "trillion-dollar deficits for years to come." That is a radical and dangerous change for our nation. In fact, that sort of spending could literally become a negative turning point that our country's economy may never truly recover from.

In other words, unless we change course, we will see a day in this country when checks from the federal government won't be worth the paper they're written on and people will need wheelbarrows full of money to buy a loaf of bread. That's the future Barack Obama is creating for our children and if Republicans continue to raise the alarm about this, it will absolutely scare the American people to death -- and with good reason. There are many nations that have been bankrupted by irresponsible government policies and Barack Obama is following in their footsteps.

5) People can understand the problem with deficit spending. There are a lot of political issues the American people have trouble fully wrapping their heads around, but deficit spending is not one of them. Every American understands what it means to operate within a budget and the consequences of running up big bills that you can't pay. They understand that they have to live within their means and the government should as well.

Typically, this issue tends to be potent with the GOP base, but not as much so with the American public. However, with Barack Obama running deficits so large that they would make a Premier of the Soviet Union blanch, the problem will soon be far too big for even the apparatchiks in the mainstream media to deny.

6) With each new spending project, public support for more spending is going to drop further. We've already had TARP, the Big 3 bailout, and now we've passed a stimulus -- and the American people are already getting very, very tired of it. From Rasmussen Reports,

While the Obama Administration is pledging up to $2.5 trillion in support for the troubled U.S. financial system, 56% of Americans oppose giving bankers any additional government money or any guarantees backed by the government.

Twenty percent (20%) support such assistance, and 24% are not sure...

...Fifty-nine percent (59%) say they oppose the $700-billion bank bailout plan that was proposed by the Bush Administration and approved by Congress early last October after the highly publicized failure of Lehman Brothers brought Wall Street's growing problems home to Main Street. Half of that money is being channeled into the new bailout plan.

Twenty percent (20%) say the first bailout plan was a good idea, and 21% are undecided.

The new numbers represent a jump in opposition to the first plan. Forty-five percent (45%) opposed it at the time it was passed, while 30% supported it. A sizable majority expected Wall Street to benefit more than taxpayers from the bailout, but those numbers also are higher now.

The plurality of Americans (46%) say the earlier bailout plan has had no impact on the U.S. economy. Thirty-six percent (36%) think it has made things worse, while just nine percent (9%) say it has helped the economy.

Note that not only do Americans strongly oppose any further bank bailouts, they've become considerably more opposed to the original TARP plan. This is not going to be an exception to the rule; it will be a trend.

That means the Democrats have a choice: continue to compulsively push ever more unpopular spending programs or give up on handing out goodies, which is about 75% of the party's appeal. The smart money would be on the former, not the latter, but either way it's good for the Republican Party.

Summary: We don't know how the economy is going to look in 2010, what all the key issues of the election will be, how popular Obama will be, how well the GOP will work together over the next two years or a number of other things.

However, it has already become very apparent that if the GOP can hold the line on spending, it will not only fire up our base and be good for the country, it will give us an enormous stick with which to savagely beat the Democrats in the 2010 elections.

Wow. John Hawkins is almost PRAYING
for the stimulus package to fail. You can FEEL it. He's wishing and hoping -- and willing Obama's plan to tank.

Hawkins clearly wants the economy to move into a depressiom... all so republicans can getback into the white house and get a majority back in Congress.

Reality check: Republicans (and, yes, "conservatives") are the main reason why we're in the economic position we're in today, taking advice from experts who say that a mass infusion of cash (spending and tax cuts) is needed to get the economy in motion again.

Over the past 8 years, it was broke. Now, the new guy has to fix it. Don't slam the messenger -- all for hacky, partisan reasons.

HAWKINS IS PRAYING FOR OBAMA'S FAILURE.

HAWKINS IS A NATIONAL DISGRACE.

Excellent points...
Since the democrats and the especially the ones in office now have their fingerprints all over the "Mae" family ripoff of the American people kind of hard to blame conservatives or Republicans. As a conservative I was against loans/mortgages for people who could not afford them. Seems that we conservatives were right. Maybe by 2010 someone on the liberal democrat side will actually look into things like the FAIRTAX.ORG that we support rather than just being mindless sheep led to slaughter taking th whole country down with them.

It is nice to see an article that shows that yes indeed as we conservatives predicted those who voted democrat got hoodwinked and the honeymoon is over. All that is left is socialism and socialist policies. Bummers, we tried to warn you.

I think with our country being led down the socialist primrose path it is time for all AMERICANS to stop the blame game and wake up. Conservatives and Repbulicans did a really long time ago. The rest of you need to catch up.

I hope obama and his cronies fail big time. According to these numbers they are. :) That was the point of this article. But since blame is being brought up, Like obama said , "BECAUSE I WON..." We know now who is to blame. Seems more and more people are seeing it too.

The more you, those like the guy above, blame Bush the more ignorance you show.

What Nonsense!
What nonsense to suggest that the Republicans caused our financial problems. The Democrats insisted that people who could not afford homes be granted mortagages. The lending industry was over extended, and the system collasped upon itself.

President Obama is stealing money from our children. He is spending money for political payback and not to stimulate the economy.

Will
I AM sick and tired of the excrement you and your ilk throw up..
You are stuck on stupid if you believe that these DemonRATs care a wit about the country or the people who are stuck with the taxes. I am sick and tired of paying for lazy no account moochers. California has a small fortune in offshore oil but the earth worshipping pagan
environ NAZIS have so indoctrinated and bottled it all up that MY GRANDKIDS are stuck with their bill. That's just ONE example. I am fed up with it. O has in his cabinet or has nominated TAX CHEATS, now a nitwit like you
probably doesn't mind that this so called president is so corrupt that he overlooks this fact that if it were you or I, we'd be jailed.
He's lied to the American people since the get go two years ago and you koolaide drinkers could care less. You rather whine about well the Republicans did it FIRRRRRSSTTT!
The Democrats have declared war on My KIDs, got that and Mama ain't happy and you know what they say about mama's who aren't happy. And I guaranttee there are a lot of other Mama's out there Nazi Pelosi's flyover country that are
livid with anger, just as I am. We lost most of our retirement because we had to survive and
most of what we took out was stolen by the government thieves in TAXES but we had to pay or Else! I pray every day that before I leave this earth, that I will see our TAX TRYANNY implode.

Tea Party
I like your post. Will always needs a trip to the verbal woodshed.

Good points!

All the best to you.

Nice article
with honest commentary on the Repubs past performance. Only thing I would add is the dems have had control of congress past couple of years and went along fully with the Bush TARP Bill as they love to spend.

I think Obama and Dems dumped all their dream spending plans into this Porkulus Bill because they may know (some might) that it will only get more difficult to get money like this again, but we know dems better and they will have $700 T Omnibus Bill our in March, $200 Billion minimum for Geithner/Summers to refi/buy/bailout mortgages in their PREFFERED Dem districts, another $25/35 B for Automakers + Tier I, II & III parts/component suppliers and a couple trillion more in Fed & Treasury backed sick assests. This doesn't inlcude the insanity of a Health Care Bill (1st stage) we all know this is not smart or even fiscally feasible for the next 5 to 10 years at best, but that has never stopped Pols before.

We all know that in 2010 taxes will go up for 2011/2012 both Fed and State.

Wake Up America

Tea Party
Allow me to join Anderson659 in compelmenting you on a post expressing my sentiments.

Not bad, overall...
This was a pretty decent article, with some decent insight. I wish to rebut the author's hypothesis, however, that Americans will come to realize that fiscal conservatism was not at fault (since it was never practiced to begin with). I just got into a heated argument with a co-worker not two hours ago, when he blamed the Republicans for the economic collapse. He's not alone-- nearly the entirety of my generation up here in the Northeast is of the same opinion. And I have no hope of them ever coming to their senses.

The real enemy is the mainstream media. They shoved President Bush into the spotlight when the excrement hit the fan. They gave Now-President Obama as much air time as humanly-possible in the run-up to the election, and utterly refused to ask him any difficult questions... you know, the ones they NEVER had ANY problem asking President Bush (in a snide, conniving tone, nonetheless).

Between the partisan "mainstream" media, a failing public education system (despite the mountain of money shoved into it), and the systematic nurturing of "entitlement mentality", the liberals have succeeded in making The United States of America too stupid, weak, and dependent, to support itself.

Make no mistake, my friends-- nothing lasts forever. The world around us has been de-centralizing since the fall of the Soviet Union, and I believe it will happen to us within the next ten years. The Obama administration is the final nail in the coffin of the USA as we know it.

2010
Nothing is certain, but Dumbo is not in an auspicious position. I can't believe he has chosen the bankruptcy route, but he has. It doesn't matter a whit whether or not Hawkins wants his tax and spend policies to fail, they will. They always have. It is important to remember a little history. For several years the Democrats were outside. And so they championed fiscal responsibility, deplored attacks on constitutional guarantees, claimed repulsion at a culture of corruption. Within days they demonstrated this was all rhetoric, pre-election snake oil. They have already shown a level of corruption, porkulus and disdain for the constitution to pale the GOP misfeasance by comparison.
But don't forget in 2010 that the oh-so-reponsible CINOs now bloc voting against Democrat pork are the same ones whose desertion of principle put us here. They have already had the chance to halt, even reverse the collectivist slide. Instead they set new standards of pandering, greed and corruption. If returned to office they will do the same thing the Ds are doing now. They will switch their tune to the one they played from 94 to 06. They must be stopped and the only place to do it is the primaries. My own treacherous SOB of a senator, Mel Martinez, led the charge for amnesty for illegal aliens. I have been waiting for years to vote against him, but apparently the word is out. He said he will not run. Now to find and elect a conservative.
When Boehner and cronies were re-elected to responsible positions after the 06 debacle for which they were the responsible leaders, it was obvious the GOP was in the hands of CINOs. The only hope for the country is to clean house. Its not enough to replace Democrats. The CINOs who failed from 64 to 06 must go as well.

Wanting failure
It matters very little whether or not any conservative wants Dumbo to "fail". You guys won. And won big, remember? You have the helm and the engine room, we don't even get to arrange the deck chairs.

All your charges we want failure and disaster are merely projections of the left wing's desire to see Bush policies fail so they could get elected. I am a patriotic American. I want America prosperous, its people happy and free. But Dumbo has chosen his path. My hopes mean nothing. Re-electing Dumbo would be a small price to pay for seeing my assets restored, my children financially secure, my grandchildren facing the same bright future i had as a young man. I don't want disaster. I just see it on the way. The demographic bomb a few years down the road will make current problems trivial. The debt we are piling up is going to magnify the hit.
Worst of all is we are losing the chance to soften the oncoming storm.

Jeremiah
You post a doleful Jeremiad. All too likely possible. I wonder if the oncoming crunch will indeed be so bad as to result in the solvent fiscally responsible worker bee states to refuse to support the Northeast ghettos and the West coast weirdos. When the southern states attempted to secede in 1861, they were out manned and outgunned. Today, the red states would have a far more even playing field.

A trend analyst
named Gerald Celente suggested that gold had bottomed out on 2002. I followed his advice and my investment has nearly quadrupled. He predicted the fall of the USSR, something the CIA didn't see coming, despite the fact that the USSR was the CIA's chief object of study. He said get out of the stock market in 1987. Again, spot on. Seems to me, when this guy talks, we ought to listen. Instead, people listen to the enviro-doomsayers, who are wrong every time, e.g., Paul Erlich. Celente is now predicting that the reckless, irresponsible runaway spending of government will result in food shortages and food riots within 2 years. Also an enormous rise in violent crime, something not seen in the 1930s, because people were for the most part moral and religious in those days. Traditional morality and religion have been abandoned by large segments of society today, so any restraints on their behavior are largely external. Add to that the fact that a significant portion of the population takes drugs, both legal and illegal, and you have a recipe for disaster. Do what you want, folks, but I choose to listen to Celente. When it all hits the fan, I'm going to have plenty to eat, and the means to defend it.

bipartistan myth..
I agree with the article overall, except for the myth of voters wanting "bipartistanship". This only means when Republicans cave in. Democrats never want "bipartistanship", but everything.

RON PAUL
If any one was listening over the last couple of years, one real conservative got trashed by the Main Stream Media and pushed to the side of the road. Maybe we should have listened to his ideas a little bit more and joined his campaign against the destruction of our country before it was too late.

Ron Paul is the only one of the major party Presidential candidates who really offerred a return to our Constitutional values and we allowed the national media to laugh him off the public stage. Think it over before it is too late.

Just One Problem
There's just one problem with all the talk about what's going to happen to the Democrats in 2010:

We have to GET THERE FIRST.

I submit, if you ask Geert Wilders, the headless wife of the moderate Muslim in Buffalo, the families of the Cole victims or any hapless American called before the Truth Commissions, they will tell you that the corral has been locked AFTER the horses therein have been hobbled. Alexis de Tocqueville, call your office please!

Hope in one hand,SHITE in the other
When the stocks crashed in the 20's the were only self-correcting from too much too quick growth.
Then FDR came to POWER which he embraced, the way the elected socialist is and now empowered by the demon-rat congress.

This country NEVER totally regained it's pre-FDR stregnths in the Constitution and now once again a POWER hungry jerk(Ovomit) is making a play to further the destruction of the Constitution.

This is folly to think that the GOP will ever be anything but demon-rat light...
The only way to regain footing for true American values and capitalism is to get rid of all of them and start over. This also is folly though...

So what are we left with?

Like I said;

We can hope in one hand but we have SHITE in the other.

Tea Party..great post!
I have 3 greatgrandchildren who, thanks to bambi's little photo-op today will owe about $4700 not counting the interest which will accrue while they are growing up to become cash cows for the entitlement class.

I too am sick and tired of paying for sloth and crime generated by the people who comprise the democrat parties base.

This ridiculous bill was shoved down our throats quickly so that no-one really knew what was in it...if there was such urgency, why does our fearless "leader" take 3 days to sign it?
The arrogance of this guy is despicible,"I won" is not an answer to a serious question posed by a serious man, this is a circus and we will be left with the clean-up of what comes out of the menagerie.

If the republicans don't stand together and block everything they can, if they don't expose this guy for the marxist he is, we will have one party rule in this country...that is his end game and that of all these miserable dems. The programs the dems have in this bill are nothing but payback and pork, they will never be rescinded and the price will increase each year till we are broke.

This is by design!

We are going to have to have another tea party soon or we will lose our republic.

Big spender.
“A) Obama is going to be the biggest spending President in American history by far” ~ John Hawkins

What do you mean, going to be?

Being the biggest spender in history is how he got elected. It is also how he is governing.

Just remember we have a duty to die now
In the porkulus proclamation we now have lost control of our own life span and our parents.

We have burdened our kids ,grandkids and great grandkids with undue loads to pay for peggy the moochers entitlements

We have expanded goobermints ability to do heaven knows what else was slid in under the radar...

God Help us survive and bless those who help themselves and remain strong enough to have the gumption to revolt from this destrution of our Republic.

Hawkins at his Best
This is the finest column he has had so far. With Hawkins' help, we will educate the public yet. I agree with other comments alluding that GOP is not the answer. They are too invested in pork and do not seem to fear for their jobs. Out with all of them. In with the "Constitution Party!"

Tea Party, 2:06 AM post.

Wow... Tea Party.

That was some tirade.

But to be truthful, I don't think that any of us conservatives would blame you for your frustrations and your righteous indignation.

But also remeber this. Will is mostly a bitter and angry single-issue leftist who will never stop and listen. He simply wants what he wants... the rest of us be damned.

And so it is with most of the left, who suffer from various stages of arrested development, envy and resentment and strong feelings of entitlement.

Because if the above were not true, we would actually have intelligent discussions, reason would prevail... and there would be scores of converts.

But take heart, Hawkins is right.

American's are increasingly getting worried... and angry.

And deep inside, they know that this kind of spending will eventually spell disaster for all of us.

And as more information about the Democrat's role in the government-mamdated push for easy credit gets out... more and more American's will finally realize who the real culprits were in the real estate bubble, and the mess we are now in.

And there will be h*ll to pay.

2010 and 2012 could really be ugly... for them.

It will take
a replay of the Carter years, times ten, for people to figure out that what we had during the Bush years was pretty good, and what Change has given us is a nightmare.

The kids, and I say "kids" because that's what they are, who voted for Obama, don't remember the Carter years. They don't remember how a feel good president with no back bone made us live with interest rates worthy of a loan shark, inflation that took the wind out of everything and a foreign policy that caused the Iranian hostage crisis.

Keep it up Obama!! I can't wait for the disillusionment to set in.

Some great quotes....
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." Margaret Thatcher

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism,’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened. I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our [socialist] platform." Norman Thomas six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America in a 1944 speech. He was one of the founders of the National Civil Liberties Bureau, the precursor of the American Civil Liberties Union. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Thomas

"What is a left-wing socialist but a Marxist without a gun? Don Feder

“I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it any more.” Me

GOP to the rescue?
Frankly, I'm fed up with the GOP. In my opinion, if a party only shifts back to what they claim is their "base" (conservatism) when they get their hand caught in the cookie jar, then I'm going to have trouble trusting their sincerity.

The GOP has shown that they are only willing to stick to their principles when they get caught or are in trouble. These are not the people to send to Washington in 2010.

Time for a new party...I would say that the Libertarians are more conservative than the GOP is.

Listen up,you that wrote this article.Nobody wants BO to fail, for the saka of our kids future and our country. The wisdom of people never fails. How in the world somebody in the right mind, will go ahead spend more money, while in debts up to the nose???History tells us never worked, never will and that why Obama is wrong going this pathway.Look for a second at Japan which did the very same thing and did not work,we have the proof. This mess is been created by Clinton years, subprime mortgages and many other things.I am mad at Bush for one thing,he should stick to his guns when Freddy Mac ANd Fannie May start having trouble. He should held accountable the officials in charge back in 2005 not to prolong the situations all the way until 2008,when everything colapsed.Hawkins is not a national disgrace,do you your homework and you will find out I am right.

Obama's Image was Elected

Barack Obama has great confidence in his 'False Image' that was elected POTUS.

It is the real Barack Obama that he detests and loathes.

The 'Real Barack Obama' is nothing more than a 'ShamWow' salesman for his created image that doesn't exist in the real world but does exist in his fantasy world - the image is what his worshipers elected.

Obama the 'Narcissist' has detailed his lack of identity, self-worth and self-esteem in his books and interviews.

Obama the 'Narcissist' feeds his 'Needs' from the feedback of his followers and anyone who will listen to him and praise him.

Obama finds his 'self induced' visions of grandeur hard to maintain. Obama does NOT like any challenge to 'His Reality'. Obama is NEVER himself but identifies with the image of his 'Reality'.

Obama believes any challenge that would ask him to account for his actions, decisions or positions, is 'Unacceptable' and does NOT give him the 'Reverence' he so justly deserves.

Obama wants everyone to look at him with admiration, gratefulness and awe, to feed his insatiable appetite to feed his inner lack of self-worth and self-esteem.

Obama will sacrifice anything and everyone that does NOT contribute to his self-image.

Obama will be 'Ruthless' towards anyone or anything that does NOT acknowledge that Obama is 'The One'.

Obama will NEVER be satisfied with just Americans proclaiming 'Obama is the ONE', he seeks the acknowledgment of the 'Entire World'.

Countdown to Wipeout!
If the Republican party can strategize correctly and put some teeth into their message I predict that 2010 will be nothing short of a wipeout of the Obama democratic party. But they cannot spare the message just because the Presi-dent is black, liberals must be attacked from every angle without mercy, but with shrewdness and character. Black voters must be educated and made to realize that the Democratic party has never and will never be our friends. They have consistently deceived and used the black voter since the 1960's to keep power.

How does it feel, Obamabots,
to have a Communist country (China) in the position of being able to either prop us up or let us fall, because they may or may not continue to buy our Treasury bills?

How do you Obamabots like it that that is precisely the position he, Peelousy and Reid have just put us in?

Will

When you shoot somebody in the head, chances are that they're going to receive life-threatening injuries. And whether you're a government, a business, or an individual, when you live and splurge on unbudgeted credit, and pay off your credit with credit, chances are very very good that economic collapse is imminent.

Apparently you are of the opinion that when Bush ran up government spending and deficits to unprecedented levels, it was a bad thing that brought on our present economic woes.

But when your hero Barack "The One" Obama does the same thing, except in triplicate, that he is somehow immune from the consequences. That, sir, is irrational. But then, neolibs are not known for their reasoning skills.

I heard last night on the radio
that this current stimulus will really cost 5 trillion as they include plans to spend the same amount annually for the next 5 years.

I also heard that TARP was really 9.7 trillion.

The politicians in Washington seem hell-bent on bankrupting the country and permanently lowering our standard of living -- I wonder why...

Note to TH posters

Everyone MUST read the Laura Hollis column today.

Her column is the most outstanding column at Town Hall in months.

Let's not start revising history...
...too soon. The Bush bailout was championed by the democrat congress. It was Bawney Fwank who was floor leader with a keynote by Red Nanny. That bailout bill last year is a democrat creature. Same for the auto bailout and now Porkulus.

After '06 John "Boner" wrote here at TH that republicans had "got it" and then proceeded to vote for more spending. He's still running the show!

New leadership was called for but didn't materialize. I still see the same moderates calling the shots for the GOP which doesn't lead me to believe that if they come to power in 2010 that it won't lead to business as usual.

Talk is cheap but it is not enough to act conservatively when faced with a no win scenario, regaining the trust of the base is not going to be easy particularly if it's the same CINO's who caused the problem.

We need minority leaders with some fire in the boiler!

Baci

Where do you think Dumbo is borrowing the money for his porkulus bill?

You would be funny if you weren't so stupid.

we can
"Our mission goal should be the destruction of the Jackass party. "
At least we can TRY, the present makes me sick.

John
"...However, it has already become very apparent that if the GOP can hold the line on spending, it will not only fire up our base and be good for the country, it will give us an enormous stick with which to savagely beat the Democrats in the 2010 elections."

The party is now identified as the party of NO. Thousands of people are losing their employment or income every day. You folks stood fast and said do nothing. Amazing. You may have a fired up base but that base is shrinking fast. Look at what happened to the Republican Party after FDR's election. You are setting up a huge disaster for the party. You can no longer harm the country thank goodness

Americans know how to budget?
I have to disagree; MOST Americans DON'T know how to operate within a budget and don't understand the consequences of running up bills that they can't pay. Look at the National average credit card debt. Look at all the people living in houses that they can't afford and driving cars that they didn't pay for. There is a sense of entitlement in America that drives people to spend money they don't have and ignore the consequences until it catches up with them.

Borrowing from China is worse
Borrowing from China is worse than buying items made in China.
Most of the items are sourced in China by USA companies. Those companies keep the profits and choose how to use them.
Chinese companies also make a profit from selling all over the world. Their taxes is what our Govt. borrows by selling treasuries to PRC.
At least in the first instance US companies participate.

"Stimulus" indeed!
Once again our "fearless leaders", lawyer-politicians/amateur "economists" have decided that we, the people, are dumb and they know what's good for us.
They have devised and passed a "Stimulus" monster bill that many in the opposition claim it won't stimulate the economy on account of wishful thinking.
Well the opposition is wrong! This monstrous spending bill will, no doubt whatsoever, "stimulate" ;

Higher interest rates as countries start to compete ferociously for capital
Higher marginal tax rates to at least give the impression they will eventually pay off the loans.
Higher inflation rates.
Resulting in a never ending slow down of the global economy, growing poverty and misery indexes, with no realistic hope to produce our way out of the deep hole.

Again, what on earth do our universities teach ? Rigid linear thinking ? No dynamic thinking ?

Laura Hollis'
column is amazing today.

When Obama goes after your IRA
a major turning point will occur. The Dems want to "MERGE" your IRA with the miserably failed Social Security plan. In other words, the government is NOW spending the money you've been saving over the past many years. They have to pay for all this spending somehow and they can't resist a big pile of money -- public or private -- sitting around unspent. Watch closely for this slight of hand.

John
It is always "Risky Business" when you wait for the other team to give you the game. Democrats only need a couple of success stories in order to win in 2010. As republicans try to design the "Ballots" for 2010,I and others will make certain, that voters know these intents. The republican party is in a box and I am going to do all I can to keep it there. When new leadership and intelligent membership return to my party,so shall I...

My wife & I have decided to not spend one cent anywhere on presidents day while our present president is in office. This is not much but it's our way of showing nonsupport for the president & his stimulus package. Now I only wish another 5 million people felt the same way we do! would you please join us?

To Chris in MI
I would have agreed with you that up until the very recent past, your comments would be absolutely accurate - spot on! However, unlike government, the American people are tightening their belts, spending far less, paying down their debts and saving more money. People aren't stupid and will act rationally in their best interests. When money and credit are cheap and the government penalizes savings and investment, it makes sense to be a spender. However, when the opposite conditions hold true, people save. Too bad government never, ever learns this lesson. No matter what the conditions, government only knows how to spend. When it has as much power as our federal government now possesses, we are in the danger zone.

Hmm...
I just read Laura Hollis' column. It is indeed a great article.

My question is this: Short of open revolution, how are we going to stop Obama and his socialist stooges in Congress from destroying our fair nation?

Is it time to sound the call to arms and implement our second amendment rights?

What you want your president and the country to fail?

Hal
Why would I want Obama to succeed in implementing his socialist plan for America?

Where Are the Constitutionals Limits
Where are the conservative think tanks and policy centers challenging these massive spending bills? There is no way the Stimulus Bill can pass any constitutional muster when you've got as much unrelated material thrown into it as the Porkers in congress have packed. Surrendering privacy for your medical records? Taking over private sector functions?

Liberals rushed to challenge the Patriot Act almost as soon as it was passed. If Republicans and conservatives are as serious about saving the nation - they need to be out in front with legal challenges to this travesty.

We are not destroying but rebuilding the country from the severe damage that your failed philosophy caused

"...Is it time to sound the call to arms and implement our second amendment rights?"

spoken like a true traitor and coward careful what you wish for

You are right.

Conservatives need to be just as vocal, visible, and in the streets raising our voices and waving our banners just like the d*mned liberals do for their causes.

The time has passed when we can just vote and that's it.

The liberals love to get in our faces and scream their slogans and rhetoric. It's time we did the same.

It's high time we gather and demonstrate. It's high time we see hordes of conservatives on the nightly news in the streets demonstrating against "the man", that is, Obama.

A relatively small percentage of Americans had a powerful impact on the nation in the sixties and seventies.

Surely we conservatives can have the same impact if we stand up and make our voices heard.

What are we waiting for?

John Hawkens
In your article, you are using a favorite term of the Liberal/Dems. A deceiving expression to make the citizen think that they are in contact with and know what the "American People" want!

Nothing could be further from the truth. The politicians of both parties don't care about what "We The People" want! And have not for years. Regardless of what the average citizen thinks it has been an on going battle of the parties for complete control of our country. Well, now it's over! The Communist and Socialist have won!

All the talk and debate on this site or anywhere else is useless and a waste of time. Yet many are going on as if they and their opinions really count and your voting power means something. You think that you will just "Vote Out" the anti-American politicians! You had all better take a long deep look what has happened. We now have the most manipulative, corrupt thugs in charge of our country and they are going to stay there forever! Even after the country collapses, as it must under them, they don't care!

They will have all become filthy rich and into Global power positions and could care less about the United States and it's people. They have succeeded in indoctrinating the people and using the United States and it's wealth against us to obtain their Global agenda.

The Frog is not just warming up folks. It's cooked!

Hal the Tosser
Thousands of people are losing their employment or income every day...

No idiot, according to your party commissar, Princess Pelosi, 500,000,000 Americans are losing their jobs per MONTH!

Get your lies straight stooge.

Hal
Why would you consider it treason to want to stop someone from destroying our nation and rebuilding it in his socialist image?

What Obama is doing is treasonous.

He wants to bring our nation to its knees and fill the citizenry with sufficient panic that he will be able to install the regime that he desires. That, you daft old fool, is precisely what Obama intends to do.

To rebuild the capitalist society you crashed? Your extreme conservatism failed miserably. It created a fake history and virtues. Reality is that we have always worked together. The private sector is only one, and hardly the best, sector of society. Laissez fair economics does not and never has worked. Society needs balance. We do not want the poisoned food and toys, illegal immigrants and constant wars and dissension that your conservatism offered. Look about you! You created disaster and you failed.

LMAO you are too incompetent and incapable to do it.

Hal
You are laughably pathetic?

Illegal immigrants? It's democrats and other liberals who champion their cause, and who want to have unfettered immigration.

It's the democrats who continually push in outrageous spending plans that do nothing but lead our country closer to bankruptcy.

Admittedly, the republicans have not done much better, but that does not signal a failure for conservatism.

The truth is, Hal, that republicans helped cause the mess we're in by going along with the outrageous spending desired by democrats. Conservativism, by nature, calls for less spending and smaller government.

What both democrats and republicans have proven is that liberalism does not work.

What is good for our nation would be real conservatism.

No it is not. We, the people, elected him and approve of what he is doing. It is constitutional and it is very much in keeping with our history.

"...He wants to bring our nation to its knees..."

This is a lie! You folks did that already and he is helping all of us to rebuild it from the damage YOU folks caused.

"... and fill the citizenry with sufficient panic that he will be able to install the regime that he desires..."

He has the government he desires. You day is over go back to your bunker.

It's NOT Rebublican Vs. Democrat
Our Nation has went into the toilet since the Liberals took control of Congress TWO years ago. It is NOT republican vs. democrat. It is fiscal and moral Conservatives vs. Obama/Pelosi Lock-Step Totalitarism. It is US vs. THEM!

WHEN THE RNC

.....Supports Conservative candidates in the Primaries against Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and defeats them ...then I will come back to the GOP .....COLOSSUS

Great post!

HELLLLOOOO OUT THERE...

If you are not pissed off yet, WAKE UP!!!

I am one of those pissed off Mamas...I have been for a while, and I am witnessing A LOT of mama and papa bears who have been hibernating. Well, someone has tweaked their nose enough. They are waking and starting to grumble.

To paraphrase a quote from the Japanese Admiral after they bombed Pear Harbor..."We may have succeeded in attacking them, but I fear we have woken a sleeping giant"!

Hey Doofass:
There are numerous reports that Obumbler wants to cut military and veteran spending by at least 10%. I guess that's what you and he meant by fully funding those programs.

Obama voters
The couple I talked to last week didn't express regrets, but I could see it on their faces. One I spoke with a couple weeks ago said, "I thought ANYBODY would be better than Bush." He is quite apoplectic. I actually felt sorry for the guy.

Every day that goes by, conservative predictions/warnings about Obama are being fulfilled. And every day those who voted for the Democrats are losing hope in change.

LMAO you silly person. Conservative lack of enforcement of laws concerning hiring illegal immigrants created this challenge. It was all part of your efforts to keep wages low remember? Now we must clean up the mess. I do not mind if they stay personally. hard working people are a good addition to society
