Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

“. . . we need to conserve that bitter impulse that we have inherited from primitive man. It alone permits us the greatest luxury of all, the ability to enjoy a vacation from the human condition through an authentic, ‘immersion in Nature’ . . . and this, in turn, can be achieved only by placing himself in relation to another animal. But there is no animal, pure animal, other than a wild one, and the relationship with him is the hunt.” - Jose Ortega y Gasset.

Is anyone else out there in what’s left of traditional America sick of the election yet? This thing has become about as appealing to me as watching Carrot Top slowly work a stubborn booger loose from the side wall of his left nostril.

Not only has the election become tedious but it is also sad (and hilarious, if it wasn’t so scary) watching the Barack punch drinkers buy into the Obama camp’s hype that this guy is the black Jesus that America needs. Good God, folks. He’s a junior state senator from Chicago who has two more years experience than I do—and I’m not even running for president.

Listen, even though McCain ain’t my Mr. McDream candidate, he kills the boy wonder from an experience standpoint, and I’ll go with age and understanding over young Robin’s Rembrandt veneers any day.

He’s a simple little executive breakdown of our two candidates:

John McCain
Congress: 26 years
Military: 22 years
Barack Obama
Congress: 143 days
Military: 0

When I need a break from the Obama brainwashing and my daily grind of writing and hosting ClashRadio.com, not only do I drink six gallons of Ketel One, dance on tables in Greek restaurants, and chill with mi familia (as Obama would have us say), but I dream about and prepare for my next hunt.

Herewith are ten reasons why I dig hunting . . .

10. When I’m out hunting the locations are usually so remote that my necessary evil, i.e. cell phone and my buddies’ cell phones, do not work and thus, depending on the length of the hunt, I have a 3-14 day timeframe to be left the heck alone. Thank you, Jesus. No doubt some of you are thinking, “I can’t live, if living is without you” in relation to your electronic appendage. Trust me, you’ll survive, and believe it or not—and this might hurt some of you egoists—but the world will continue to turn without your input.

9. Our sport is 99.9% devoid of nasty, whiny man-hating stretch pant wearing mullet sporting anti-American nerve-grating feminists, lesbos and nutty liberals. Yep, around the campfire and in the field the lunatic left’s yarbling is non-existence. Why the absence of the left’s asininity out in the brush? The answer is simple: The tree humpers don’t hunt, which is awesome! For my God and country loving tribe, this makes the air smell fresher, the food taste better, the wine taste sweeter, the buzz last longer, the stars shine brighter, the voice of God clearer, and the trip overwhelmingly blissful with such jackanapes missing from our mix. Yep, the hunting camp is a traditional values paradise.

8. Less noise. One of the things I hate about city life is the noise. Daily I find myself walking around yelling like Yosemite Sam, ”I hate noise . . . can’t stand noise . . . noise . . . noise . . . noise!” which inadvertently adds to the racket, which explains much of my life. Where I live (Miami) everything is frickin’ noisy. Horns honkin’, people yelling on their cell phones, folks fighting, screaming and complaining in English, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese and Yiddish—and that’s just in the foyer of our church. By the way, can Starbucks get a coffee steamer that doesn’t sound like a wild boar being gutted with a dull chainsaw? Is that too much to ask? Out in the field and away from the concrete the hunter enjoys the magical perk of peace and quiet.

7. Art by God. The hunter gets an ocular overload as he is fortunate to behold the handiwork of the Creator in an intimate and intimidating way. Yes, away from the manmade stercore tauri one gets to behold the Designer showing off his flora and fauna in a funkalicious fashion. Explosive colors, an endless variety of birds, animals, fish, reptiles, freaky insects, threatening mountains, trickling and raging rivers, and brilliant stars are the canvas God rolls out and slaps the onlooking hunter with. I know this will upset some indoor Nancy boy pastors, but I get more God out of nature than I do your dull church service. The hunter understands what King David meant in Psalm 23 when he says that God “makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.” Call me crazy, but God’s art crushes any Abstract/Modern art which usually looks like someone whipped their butt on a piece of paper, framed it and called it good.

To be continued . . .

Hunting
Dear Doug;

Thank you for your article on hunting. I have to say that I agree with every word of it. My father and grandfather hunted with me and I am passing along that tradition to my son.

For the last four years my son and I have managed to get to the camp at least once a month in the off-season to work on the lanes or fish. During the season we are there every other weekend, except for Christmas which is spent at home.

Last year, after nothing but squirrels on his record, he managed to get his first deer. It was nearly dark when we spotted her and he took aim. I thought at first I had a PETA liberal on my hands when he kept saying he could not do it. I then asked him what the problem was and he said he could not see the deer. He was using a single shot .243 with a 4X scope. I then gave him my Remington 700 7mm Magnum with a 3 X 9 X 40 Nikon scope. Once he shouldered the rifle I said in a whisper, “Can you see her now?” The first response was the report and flash of the 7mm firing. The muzzle flash at that late dusk hour looked like a battleship going off. My son then said, “I got her, she dropped right there!!”

I asked him, “What was the problem?”

“My scope was too dark to make a good shot, yours is better than mine and I could see her better so I took the shot.” A true responsible hunter never takes a shot that my only wound the animal.

That evening he drove the 4 wheeler back to the camp with his prize on the front while I rode on the back fender.

This year he is getting a new scope.

The camp lets him spend time with me that is one on one. He also gets to know his godfather, my brother, better. It is something I had growing up and something I am happy I can provide for him.
Thanks for a great article and God Bless.

Your post (I would list the number but I have
found that the number changes every time someone
posts - can't they ever get it right here? is
really bizarre. I mean mouth opening bizarre.

You did state something true. China and Russia
are among the world's worst polluters. Beyond
that, well I don't even know how to respond because it is just too bizarre.

I am a conservative, so I really get bugged
big time when other conservatives say such
outrageously stupid things.

About 15 years ago Japan was also very bad
on environmental issues. They are far from
perfect yet, but they sure have cleaned up
their act (pun intendeded). Wherever humans
are, they soil the place. That is nothing more
than a truism, and an obvious one at that. So
why shouldn't they also be responsible for
cleaning up? Our children would prefer not
to inherit a dump, and rightfully so.

Sorry if it might require some money or effort
on your part, but that is how it is.

Doug does seem to have an interesting way with words, but what he is trying to convey is that it is an almost religious experience just to be out there in the wild- taking your place in nature as any other predator. Whether you kill an animal or not really doesn't matter after awhile. In the begining it does - because of our competitive nature. Later in life you actually try and handicap yourself with more primitive weapons like muzzleloaders and archery. It truly becomes about the chase and enjoying being where you are- a part of nature.

Doug Giles is disgusting
Seriously - his style of writing is just gross and he never seems to have a point that isn't rambling nonsense.

And Oh, his poor wife and daughters - saddled with him for a Father and Husband.

If CO2 is warming our earth, then why do you leftists insist on removing our hydroelectric dams and curtailing nuclear power. Moreover, you losers have whined constantly against ethanol with your bogus claims that it's starving the third-world. All three options produce no significant carbon emissions.

Clearly you don't really believe in this nonsense. Inept leftist politics as usual.

As far as dumbassmajority's spiel above, well, many scientists do in fact disagree with the AGW fantasy. Further, liberals who "care about the environment" always manage to leave places like Woodstock and its descendants in utter disarray.

Inthemajority
How old are you?

I remember when the scientists were raising the alarm of an approaching Ice Age. I also remember the enviro-nuts telling us we would be starving by the end of the 20th century.

You never did answer my or Talent Scout's questions-just called names.

That's easy, isn't it?

What say ye of Lord Monckton-a titled British scientist himself and not one who drinks the AWG Kool-aid? Why won't Algore-whom nobody can call a scientist-debate him?

Funny
I find myself actually agreeing with Doug’s reasoning although I’m more inclined to camping than hunting. The only irony is that I include Doug’s kind along with his laundry list of folks I get to avoid.

Otherwise, I love the line about “Nancy boy pastors”. It’s funny how the man’s colossal ego blinds him to the fact that his self-serving, make-it-up-as-you-go-along religion is just as contemptible as theirs.

Amen Amen and Amen
Good story but there sure are a lot of hate mongers out there.

All scientists say earth is cooling
All of them say this

The lower atmosphere is cooling, not warming

No scientist disagrees with this.

No scientist believes otherwise.
All scientists agree the earth is cooling.
There is a consensus we are entering into a new ice age.

All scientists agree oil is abiotic, no disagreements.

No all scientists do not agree, its not been proven by science, just claimed by politics in science.

It began with a belief that looked for evidence and found some.
Anything a person wants to believe he can find some evidence to support his beliefs.
This is a belief, not a proven science the earth is warming.

Scientist: Earth Cooling, Not Warming

Thursday, April 24, 2008 10:53 AM

By: Philip V. Brennan

A San Francisco-based scientist says that current solar activity strongly indicates that the earth is on the verge of a new ice age.

"Sorry to ruin the fun, but an ice age cometh," warns Phil Chapman writing in The Australian. Chapman is a geophysicist and astronautical engineer who was the first Australian to become a NASA astronaut.

"The scariest photo I have seen . . . is at http://www.spaceweather.com, where you will find a real-time image of the sun from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory [SOHO], located in deep space at the equilibrium point between solar and terrestrial gravity," Chapman wrote, adding ominously that "what is scary about the picture is that there is only one tiny sunspot."

"This is where SOHO comes in," he explained. "The sunspot number follows a cycle of somewhat variable length, averaging 11 years. The most recent minimum was in March last year. The new cycle, No. 24, was supposed to start soon after that, with a gradual build-up in sunspot numbers."

Doug is right on the money....
...with this article.

Along with my brother and a few of our buddies, we set up hunting camp out in the woods and it is nothing short of bliss. We're all conservatives and the break from the social choas that is everyday life sometimes is wonderful. No complaining, a lot of laughs, tons of gratitude and beautiful scenery all around. Our group even has had Bible discussions around the fire in the evenings! Now that's CHURCH!

Trying to outsmart a Michigan whitetail deer is no small feat, and that's half the fun. All the planning for the hunt goes down the drain if one doesn't learn the ways of this animal which makes the effort all the more worthwhile. And there is no affirmative action as far as who takes a deer!

I use the Remington 700 bolt action, 30-06. There are few things more tasty than well-prepared roast venison. Heavenly.

Great article, Doug.

You and talent scout should be in the same reading & comprehension class. If this is the future of Cons, then no wonder most scientists are Liberal.

Der der der
How many of you can read? How many of you are like talent scout, with little abilities beyond copy-paste?

What is it about the English language that baffles you so much? Is it too much to ask that you read your own posts, which clearly show how little you comprehend about the difference between "the earth is warming according to all scientists" (my quote) and your rubbish "petition" regarding "human-caused global warming"? Did you forget to read my original post separating the two? They were on two separate lines, scout.

Are you daft? Are you spitting out talking points faster than you can comprehend your own words? This is beyond surreal, and it is typical for the non-scientific Con community.

Again, for Talent Scout and a few others (very few, thankfully), there is NO debate about the warming Earth. None. Please read your own pasted nonsense and compare the obvious distinction between warming and human-caused warming. Geez.

As for the so-called petition, check to see that any one with any degree could "sign" it. Even Mickey Mouse and Michael Moore "signed" it. Most real scientists complained when they realized their name was being misrepresented. Not real science, and not a real petition.

It is obvious you do not have a science degree of any sort. Even our anti-science GWB-appointed scientists admit that the earth is warming, and they have tried to cover up man's contributions for years until recently. Philip Cooney ring a bell?

Not sure why you equate hunting with a desire to see animals reduced to a lifeless heap of fur and horns. Most hunt for the meat, and to control populations so all may thrive. It's called husbandry.

Good hunters not only shoot to kill mercifully the first time, they'll track a wounded animal and finish the job so infection, starvation or predators don't make a slow death for their quarry.

the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) will announce that more than 31,000 scientists have signed a petition rejecting claims of human-caused global warming. The purpose of OISM’s Petition Project is to demonstrate that the claim of “settled science” and an overwhelming “consensus” in favor of the hypothesis of human-caused global warming and consequent climate damage is wrong. No such consensus or settled science exists. As indicated by the petition text and signatory list, a very large number of American scientists reject this hypothesis.

It is evident that 31,072 Americans with university degrees in science - including 9,021 PhDs, are not “a few.” Moreover, from the clear and strong petition statement that they have signed, it is evident that these 31,072 American scientists are not “skeptics.”

If you're so convinced that man is the cause of global warming, won't you please:

1) Tell us what the ideal temperature at time and in any place on Earth is supposed to be. Cite your authorities, and upon what basis they came to know this.

2) Come out here to Western Colorado and do a rain dance. We need the moisture.

3)Be the first to set the example in reducing your carbon footprint. Eliminate yourself.

""And yes it has been hotter, much hotter!!!! ""

Personal experience tells me that the Watermelons (Green outside, red inside) are Full of it.

I've lived in MI for 48 years (with a few excusions to other locations) and the summers in the late 80s/early 90s ere much warmer than recently.

In the past decade or so, even here in central MI we'd have at least a couple weeks of 100+ degree weather, the past couple years we've barely scratched the 90s. Right now it's a balmy 65 degrees here. LOL

The last time I remember a string of summers this cool, was during the "Global Cooling" scare of the 70s.

If the earth is Warming, can someone explain wht Sydney AU saw snow last week for the 1st time in 170 years?

Gore-Bull warming is slowly being exposed for the huge fraud that it is. "Gored" will soon be added to the lexicon as a new name for someone who failed miserably at pulling of a Con-Job.

Like Obama really Gored in 2008 running for president.

Chest-thumping Drivel is absolutely correct; I do love killing animals. This fall and winter, my son and I will be out shooting quail, whitetail deer, and elk and we will find great joy in the experience. We will not read one newspaper, watch TV, or talk on our cells; and most importantly, will not have to listen to one inane comment from some foolish liberal. Hats off to Doug Giles.

Pathetic response, I made the claims I made based on my observations and my experiences. As far as my observations go, my post is anecdotal concerning the liberal types I saw trashing the environment. Attempting to separate the Rainbows from your coalition of dysfunctional jerks won't work either. Liberals won't allow conservatives that luxury so you don't get it either. I will continue to to identify liberals with Rainbows and the other recreant human slime that make up the left.

The rest of the points I brought up were not only not refuted or argued by you, you simply avoided them altogether. You basically giggled, and changed the subject. You offered nothing in response that was either pertinent or addressed the topic.

On a historical note, since I brought that up, it was Teddy Roosevelt, hunter and naturalist, that gave us the National Parks system and stressed conservation of our natural heritage. He was not a leftist.

Show me one thing a leftist has produced that is good or has value, that truly elevates the human condition, and I'll show you a singular incident of decency. The left has no track record in this area.

AGW, is the greatest fraud in human history, the problem liberals have is that nature isn't cooperating with them. As with all of your vast list of environmental failures this piece of agenda driven junk science is headed to the ash heap of history. It'll be right there with the new Ice Age from the 70s.

The left are such tools.

Keep you powder dry!
And watch your topknot too!! I have been shooting black powder since 1977 and am still addicted. Started with a CVA .50 caliber Mountain Rifle, then a .54 Big Bore Mountain Rifle and now have a custom built flinter.

The flinter REALLY makes you watch your Ps and Qs!! No margin for error and you learn much patience. I went for the Appalachian style in the Eastern TN school. Plain black walnut, all browned iron furniture and a 44" swamped barrel with DEEP round grooves and very slow twist 1 turn in 72" for maximum accuracy with really stiff loads.

Her name's Long Tall Sally and like the gal from the Little Richard song "she's built real sweet!". I was just hanging her up after checking her mirror bore and sleek stock for dirt and dings when I went to see what was hopping on TH. Wow! TWO other black powder addicts.

One little point,

If, according to you, the earth is Warming, why is it the warmest year on record was in 1938???

Can you explain why Sydney AU had snow last week for the first time in 170 years?

Can you explain why Baghdad Iraq had snow this winter for the First time in History?

Can you explain why Athens Greece had the first snow in decades?

Gee, it's getting awfully cold for a world that is getting Warmer!

Ok, now you can screech at me about "Con Logic", But at leastCon-Logic isn't too busy going in circles to make any sense.

By the way, Hunting is the #1 source of tourist income around here (along with the #2 source of meat), if you banned hunting, hundreds of families around here would go hungry. Oh Wait, you and your messiah will save us all from ourselves right?

What a twit.

News Bulletin
There is no "global warming"! It's now called climate change. Inconvenient, don't you think? If the facts don't fit, simply change the rules. Despite all the facts and evidence, the agenda must move forward. In another words, propaganda to all the ignorant fools that buy into it, and sadly, there are many! This beloved home we call earth, has been around for billions of years. To think that we as man can actually change such a divine creation, is the epitome of arrogance. If mankind was truely that great and influential, I ask the following; why can't we control hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, solar flares, tidal waves, solar ecclipses, lunar eclipses, droughts, blizzards, tectonic plates, time, evolution, etc.? The list is endless! Why are we even having this discussion? Izzit because you want more of my money? Do they think I actually believe this nonsense, and should feel guilty for living my life? Change my light bulbs, ride my bike(imagine that),inflate my tires,tune-ups,do with less? Does any real American buy into this? It's simple. Listen to who's saying it, and follow the money trail. Afterall, it's all about the money

If "all" the scientists agree on global warming, then why did 30 plus thousand sign a paper that basically said that if g.w. was happening, then it is not man-made?

Why is there more ice-caps now than there were 10 years ago? No melting?

Why has there been no warming of the planet (but a slight cooling)in the last ten years?

Why (even in the summer) has there been snow in places that have not had snow in over 150 years.

The very nature that the g.w. crowd worships proves just the opposite of what this same crowd would have us believe.

Have you ever read anything on the net (with an open mind) that is not liberal slanted?

As a researcher, I have been taught that one does not critize the other side unless one has read their stuff.

Animal
Sure the scientists have proof. All of the scientists, Liberal and otherwise say so. Do you mean to tell me you think there are any scientists at all that think otherwise?

Globe is warming: 100% of scientists (no really)
Man has a part in the warming: approx. 99%
Man has a significant part or that we can reverse it: debatable

But for someone who obviously know how to use a computer and a Web page to not use the Google through the internet tubes is somehow disconcerting.

My Comments Regarding Firearms, etc.
Even the Beatles were advocates of gun ownership. Do any of you remember: "Happiness is a warm gun"?

I'm with Cicero Dallas above. Here's an idea for skeet shooting.

Instead of clay pigeons, the shooter gives a command and the door from a structure on the range is opened and a registered democrat is kicked out. He's given a 5 second lead before the shooter can take aim.

I would spare the women and children progressives. The women, with their superior upper body strenght vis a vis liberal "men", can be used to carry heavy objects.

The offspring of progressives can be converted to Christianity and enrolled in the NRA.

Mark from NY above should indeed be exempted from wearing the yellow sun dress. However, he should be required to attend a tactical shooting class at Gunsite or Blackwater within one year of the new legislation.

Answer me this! Do you have any proof that 'global warming' is taking place, other than the so-called "proof" of Al Gore qand his so-called liberal scientists?

Norm
That was funny! You had me going there for awhile. I really though that next you were going to tell us that it is the Conservatives who are warning us of the dangers regarding global warming. Or that it is the Republicans who legislate for environmental issues.

Funny, funny stuff. Con-Logic! You're definitely it! (Can I use your post for satire during my discussions while hiking? Please?)

Re:Cicero Dallas
As a former hunter, I don't have an assault rifle, or a full carry permit. I do have 3 rifles, 2 handguns and 2 shotguns. That should exempt me from the "yellow sundress" requirement! Aside from the hunter, there are very few that can truely appreciate the greatness of nature and God. To share that with our favorite buds is priceless. I still hunt with the gang, and a rifle. I just choose not to kill. Nevertheless, the food is just as delicious, and the moment is savored every time. Very therapeutic

Con-Logic?
inthemajority your tiny, nearly convolutionless mind needs a break, go find some dope to smoke and bail out of here. You're going to get chewed up. I make my statements based on my experiences, "by their works shall you know them" is in full force here.

I do about 250 miles a year backpacking, hunting, and fishing in the Colorado Rockies, I've been doing that for 30 years. I have seen more than I care to share. Even the Rangers that patrol open space in one of our very liberal cities support my claim. It is the tie-dyed t-shirts that won't put campfires out or start them in disregard of fire bans. It's the dope smoking liberals that leave a trail of garbage down our trail systems, garbage that I pick up and pack out. You know, the ones with the bumper stickers that say "Free Tibet". It's the liberals who fly private jets to global warming conferences and use 10 times the energy a normal American uses, it's the liberals who created reefs from used tires that are now killing the ocean life. It's the liberals who want to ban hunting so that over-population caused diseases like CWD can spread unchecked through elk and deer populations, it's the liberals who break the law to damage private property and burn down ski lodges, it's liberals who banned DDT and killed 10 million Africans, it's left-wing ideologies that murdered 90-150 million people world-wide in the 20th century. It's ideologically leftist run nations that are the most polluted places on the planet, to wit, Russia and China.

Left-wing liberal history of environmentalism is a long list of failures, murder, and ignorance. It's a history you can't deny because you can't re-write that history. Take you're stupid little comment and pack it where the sun does not shine pal. You are just as clueless and dim as the rest of the liberals that post on TH.

You use the same warped logic in describing "Cons." When talking about others, make sure you are not doing the same thing yourself.

Conservative groups trash environment
My business partner runs a hunting camp in WY. The Cons tend to have less regard for the environment than the Liberals. In fact, he thinks the Liberals are too tree-huggy and tend to do too much to cover their tracks and remove anything that can prove they were in the wilderness.

Typical Cons... always talking about how they alone love the land, then trash it anyway. Hypocrites.

About as much correlation as the idiot who thinks some hippy Rainbow group trashing a campsite represent all Liberals. I guess I'm going to have to call Con-logic on you and assume all Cons hate the environment.

Con-logic! You're it!

P.E.T.A.
Has anyone besides me hear about the "murder" of inocent animals by P.E.T.A. every year? What's the difference between what they do and hunters?
One difference is that most hunters (besides what is being discussed here) do it to eat and survival.

Dallas
I have a friend from Switzerland, where the law requires that every male over the age of 18 have a gun in the house.
This is the law we need here.

All hunters are Liberals...
... according to the Giles and other broad-stroke Cons. How do we know that all hunters are Liberal? Simple: the only hunters I have tramped through the woods with were Liberal! According to Giles, you can take your own small population sample and apply it to the rest of the US (or world). Do you think a Liberal would want to go hunting with someone like Giles?

The local environmentalists in my community, all Liberals of course, are hunters. D'oh! Giles loses another battle of wits... with himself no less. Some extra chromosome (or lack of) prevents him and his ilk of applying logic to something so simple. I am going to a cookout today -- host shot the birds himself, but no problem to us Liberals unless he was shooting caged birds like Cheney.

The Con's lack of statistical sense reminds me of the so-called Liberal bias in education. Even though the majority of college and university students are Liberal, I'm not going to pretend that there are no Con students -- we have all witnessed the Reagan huggers called the Young Republicans. When they are hazed, I believe they have to carry posters of Reagan, wear Reagan on their panties, and attempt to defend his environmental policies.

Raker
Totality agree with your 2:35 a.m. post. It's not about killing but getting away from the cluttered life and being able to think.

I go fishing, not to catch anything, but to be with my grown children, in a quiet place to be able to talk without the noises around us.

It is never about catching fish, but about stopping and "smelling the roses."

A bowhunters comment
It always amazes me to see the left-wing imbeciles rant about things they know nothing about. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, "It's not that our liberal friends don't know things, it's just what they know isn't correct". I find that to be the absolute truth. Pomeroo, for your information, hunters as a group contribute more to the preservation of natural lands and animals than all the animal rights groups put together. Billions are spent by hunters in license fees, habitat stamps, and on privately run conservation efforts. Additionally, hunters are the economy for many remote towns whose sole income is the three months of hunting season. Hunters I know invariably keep clean camps and restore their camps before they leave.

By contrast, a few years ago at Hahns Peak the Rainbow people came for a 1-2 week get-together. The result was a statement by the local Forester: " It will take decades for the damage done by these people to go away. We have been hauling trash out of the forest for the last month. The ground water is contaminated with human feces, motor oil, anti-freeze, camp fuel, and other chemicals." Typical of the left, make outrageous claims for the presevation of nature and then go and trash it en masse.

The left and it's coalition of mindless dolts have no clue.

I always thought eugenics to be evil, considering the modern American left I'm re-evaluating that position.

On Guns
I'm not a hunter. I like animals too much. And the older I get the more I like them and dislike people, especially democrats, liberals, progressives and other wasted life forms.

In a correct world animals would be spared and liberals would be hunted.

But I do support gun ownership. It should be mandatory and some government agency should be empowered to kick down doors, search houses and if they don't find at least 10 guns in the house, it should be burned to the ground and the owners put into force labor.

Harsh? Perhaps. Perhaps this should be done in stages. Perhaps an interim law could be passed that requires any man who does not own an assault rifle and does not have a concealed carry permit should be forced to wear a yellow sun dress until he complies.

Your point about someone’s motivation is valid. It is similar to attempting to see what is in a person’s heart. The amazing this to me is many whom post on Townhall has not done enough self-assessment to know why they believe what they believe. Many have no core beliefs so their arguments lack depth. I enjoy Doug, because he can portray deep wisdom in an irreverent way.

it's
all most bow season in nm thank the good lord they are starting to bugle , and gather cows .i 'll be taking a much needed break soon

Gray Ghost
Good morning. Should have known you would be on this thread. Flintlock, eh? Good for you. The modern ammo choices make loading fast and the projectiles more accurate and effective, but keeping the priming powder dry has got to be the same challenge. I'm afraid the frustration of having a misfire with an 8 pointer across the sights would be a possible source of cardiac arrest in my case. At least until i got to b1tch about with my hunting buddies afterward. I'll stick with my .300.

Savage99, now restored to Pistol

Doug, I am with You on Hunting
There is a quiet and a peacefulness in the woods that I normally hunt in Mississippi. And though I deer hunt with my .50 caliber flintlock rifle, I have no problems with those who hunt with more modern arms.

Plus when it snows in NW Mississippi, the hunting becomes better than ever. You can actually hear that softest of sounds, the sound of snow hitting the ground.

So far, I have been only taking my oldest grandson (10 years old). But my youngest grandson just turned 5. I will start taking him this year.

It does seem that God is closer when you are farther away from the "affairs" of man. But maybe its because these affairs don't get in the way.

Giles
Should be checked for schizophrenia, one minute he talks about God and goodness and the next minute he's being vile.

Words. Just words
I am always amazed by people, who find themselves unable to hold a civil conversation on any topic, find it so easy to fall into the old name calling trap. If I can't discuss the issue then I'll try and defame the opposition.
Six grade educations? Chest pounding? Words! Just Words. Sycopaths, fanitical, homo. Words. Just words. Where are the issues. Comments like thes make one sound like a candiate. Words EMPTY words. Promises. EMPTY promises.

Giles
There is no problem with hunting per say.
How you hunt is another matter. I hope you don't hunt the way say Dick Cheney does? Which is just to kill fenced in game. If this is what you're talking about Mr. Giles I hope he invites you along. But if you're going out into the wild as it sounds more power to you. But watch out I hear the lesbos (you loser!) are getting into hunting so don't tell them who you are if you see one (with a gun that is).

People Eating Tasty Animals

Mr. Giles, I very much enjoyed your column. Especially the part about finding God in the great outdoors. With that I couldn't agree more.

Ranger Robert

Was that Ft Bragg, FT Benning, or some other source for your nom de plume?

I have known many hunters,
I have never hunted but I have known many hunters. Universally (I can't say "to a man" because a number of them have been female), they show both respect for and understanding of nature in a way that no urban environmentalist will every comprehend.

Hunters don't just love the romantic, photogenic animals. They know how the animals they hunt interact and how they are affected by things that affect the lowly, ugly, and mundane elements of the local ecology. And they know the dangers of animal overpopulation and predator-prey imbalances.

Those who consider hunters mere barbarians of the backwoods could do no better than to go to the library, pick up a dozen back issues of Field and Stream and/or Outdoor Life, and open their eyes to the reality of the natural world they romanticize rather than understand.

The most annoying
thing i read in these posts is statements claiming to know another poster's motivation. There are no mind readers. Disagreement with another's actions or opinions makes sense. Attributing motivation does not. Some people are liberals because they are lazy and greedy. Some are liberals out of compassion and revulsion at life's imperfection and cruelties. Some people are driven by motivation so obscure and freaky, their deeds are incomprehensible. I like to go hunting. I rarely shoot anything, been 6 years since i turned a deer into venison. I'm going again come buck season. I always have a good time. I don't quite know why.

If I hear "historic"
If I hear "historic" or "change" one mor time, I may turn blue and Smurf up all over the place.

MYK...
...Aren't plants living things? If the tofu eaters of the world were intelectually honest, they would have died out upon discovering vegetarianism.

I sure would miss them...NOT!

Oh so Precious!
Liberals/Leftists/Pacifists/Girly Boys, etc. do not hunt, because they do not want to hurt the tender sensibilities of the poor little bugs and mosquitos . . . who, of course, have a "soul" . . . and who should be allowed to freely do as nature intended, which is to suck our blood and give us Malaria and West Nile Virus. It's all part of the "balance of Mother Nature" . . . La De Da . . . . According to this mind-set, human beings are the only animal species that should NOT be allowed to do as nature intended, because we have the necessary intellectual "equipment", and therefore the responsibility, to display a more "refined" consciousness . . . Blah, Blah, Blah . . .
If Cro-Magnon man had followed the advice of these pathetic excuses for manhood . . . demonstrating such fastidious and, ultimately suicidal, respect for the lives of all the birds and bees and chickens and rats . . . the human species would now be extinct.
Hardly a day goes by that I don't see the bumper-sticker of some scabrous anemic worm-worshipper that says, "Meat is murder!". If one truly believes that, it follows that, in order for the believer to be both intellectually and morally credible, they must also be intellectually and morally CONSISTENT. If the commercial harvesting of animals for food is "immoral", then it must be immoral in ANY culture, in ANY part of the world, for ANY reason. Are the granola-eating, tofu-loving fans of Gaea going to then say that it is "immoral" for aboriginal tribespeople, like the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert, to eat meat? After all, if it is immoral for us to eat a hamburger, then surely it must be immoral for the Bushmen to kill and eat anything that doesn't plant roots in the ground.

varmints
Doug has drawn out the lesser varmints, this could be good practice. If shooting at pomeroo the best results will be acquired by shooting him in his butt(his head being tucked there).

Ranger29
I just finished watching a movie on HBO that reminded me of you. It's title was Idiocracy.

rather obvious
I see it is rather obvious that some posters have never been out of the city limits.
I didn't see anything about him killing anything, just going on the hunt. Contrary to what a lot of people believe, it is the journey that we seek, not just the game.

Giles
What drivel! Hopefully, Doug, Townhall will wise up and quit wasting space on your self-promoting crap. Can you not realize that most readers out here are a little above sixth grade sophistication?

Waiting For My Epiphany
A new Internet blog, titled "Obama Messiah Blogspot," http://www.obamamessiah.blogspot.com/ asks the question "Is Obama the Messiah?

A quote is provided from a speech Barack Hussein Obama gave in Lebanon, New Hampshire, in January 2008:

"A light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an Epiphany...and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama."

It seems that the many fanatical Obamamaniac liberals and "homo/abortion-loving sycophants & Hollywood-types that make up the Democrat Party base, received theirs almost instantaneously.

Now it seems, some erstwhile members of the Republican Party are finding theirs.

However, I have not, as yet, seen neither that shining light nor has its beam shone upon my unbelieving countenance...

I guess some of us are just "doomed" to remain in the ranks of the "unbelievers."

...Thank God.
