Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Pope Benedict XVI applauded the United States for preserving religious freedom in a historic speech on the White House South Lawn Wednesday morning.

The Pope said, “America's quest for freedom has been guided by the conviction that the principles governing political and social life are intimately linked to a moral order based on the dominion of God the Creator.”

“Freedom is not only a gift but also a summons to personal responsibility. Americans know this from experience,” he said. “Almost every town in this country has its monuments honoring those who sacrificed their lives in defense of freedom, both at home and abroad. The preservation of freedom calls for the cultivation of virtue, self- discipline, sacrifice for the common good, and a sense of responsibility toward the less fortunate. It also demands the courage to engage in civic life and to bring one's deepest beliefs and values to reasoned public debate. In a word, freedom is ever new. It is a challenge held out to each generation, and it must constantly be (inaudible) for the cause of good.”

This visit marks the second trip a pope has ever made to the White House.

Near the beginning of the 21-gun salute ceremony the 9,000 attendees who gathered on the White House’s South Lawn sang “Happy Birthday” to the pontiff, who celebrates his 81st birthday Wednesday. As the end of the event, the U.S. Army chorus preformed the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”

The White House address was the first of several scheduled during the pope’s six day trip to the U.S. The pontiff will conduct open-air masses in Washington and New York, as well as speak to the United Nations and leaders of Catholic colleges.

He will also visit Ground Zero, the site of the 9/11 terrorist attack.

re: Think People!
I am not disagreeing with you that all governors have to follow the law of their state. I am just stating that I do not believe in taking a life because they did some heinous crime. Yes, we could argue if the death penalty prevent or deters crimes, and we would never reach a 100% agreement. Does it prevent repeat offenders, yes. But still, I do not believe in taking of a life because of their offences.

Now, please don't get me wrong. I do believe crimes should be punished. So you ask, "ok John, what would you do with someone who we have sentenced to death right now?" Here is what I propose. Let's change our penal society. Right now, it's a country club atmosphere (well, not really, but come on, these people don't have it all that bad). If you are sentenced to death you should be given life in prison BUT, here is what I would change. You will be in solitary confinement for the rest of your days. We will hose you down once a week in your cell. Your cell will be 3 feet x 3 feet by 3 feet. There will be no bed, just a hard cement floor. You will have a bucket to go to the bathroom in. We will empty that once a week. You will not get TV, books, magazines, visitors, etc. You will not be entitled to parole. we will give you three meals a day, just enough to keep you alive. You will live this way as long as you naturally live. If you get sick, that is your problem.

Now, I don't think that would be a walk in the park. In fact, I think if you get two years in prison, you should get the same treatment for two years. I bet if people had to go through that experience we would have quite a few less repeat offenders.

Is this harsh.. by all means yes, it must be. But, it does not take someone else life. I will let God do that, for he has a much better idea of what that is all about than we do.

Amazing
I just amazed how a German-born Head of State (Vatican City) praises America for one of her founding ideals, while our OWN DEMONCAT POLITICIANS vilify her because we believe in those ideals! I have no use for apostate Demoncats and their enablers. I guess that makes Pope Benedict more of an American than the "candidates" for the Demoncat nomination or the "leaders" of the Senate and House.
