The Anti-Trump Lincoln Project Ends With Hundreds of Thousands in Debt

The once high-profile anti-Trump group, the Lincoln Project, has officially shut its doors, leaving behind a trail of controversy and hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Despite gaining national attention for its ads targeting President Donald Trump and his allies, the organization’s finances have crumbled under mounting expenses and legal challenges. The group, founded by disillusioned Democrats, now faces scrutiny over its funds management and its ability to fulfill its mission. 

According to Federal Election Commission (FCC) filings, the Lincoln Project finished 2024 with over $863,000 in unpaid invoices. The organization spent the past year on advertisements supporting former Vice President and failed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. 

The organization outlined its debt, which includes payments for services like compliance, legal counsel, fundraising, digital advertising, and political strategy consulting. Notably, one of the outstanding bills was a check for approximately $1,200 owed to the Elias Law Group, the firm led by prominent Democratic attorney Marc Elias. The filings also show that $21,000 was owed to the Democratic firm Katz Watson.

The Lincoln Project owed over $100,000 to the Denver-based Manhattan Creative Group, led by Hollywood writer and director Joseph Wartnerchaney, for media production services. Additionally, the Las Vegas-based company We Laugh Harder was listed as owed $1,500 for communications services.

The Lincoln Project has spent several weeks attacking Trump, falsely claiming that Trump’s first days in office have been chaotic. The organization railed against the president’s cabinet picks, saying each one makes the United States “a more dangerous place for all of us.” 

“A message to the US Senate: America is watching. Patel, Gabbard, and RFK are more than just unfit. They are a danger to our country and to our people's safety,” the organization wrote on X. 

It also asserted that Trump backed down on the Mexican tariffs when, in fact, Mexico conceded and gave Trump what he demanded.
