GOP Has 'Evidence of Illegal Immigrants Voting' Amid Biden's Border Crisis

With less than five months until the 2024 presidential election, Republicans are doing everything they can to protect the integrity of America’s elections and ensure safe and secure voting despite the Biden Administration’s reckless policies.

As GOP lawmakers push for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act— which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote— Democrats assert non-citizens voting in U.S. federal elections is a “made-up” claim being peddled by Republicans.

However, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has “repeated evidence” to back the notion that illegal immigrants are taking part in American elections.

“Let me just say this about the overall state of the election issue,” Roy said, adding “We’ve got repeated evidence of those who are here illegally — or, or whether they’re here legally — but non-citizens voting.”

Roy explained that Republicans have obtained studies that prove votes from non-citizens “tipped” the election for Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.). The Florida congressman also said that there are studies that show Virginia tossed out more than 1,500 registered voters last year.

He pointed out that federal law bans the “ability of states to be able to check and ensure citizenship” of people who show up to vote, meaning that illegal immigrants can cast a ballot in state and federal elections without having to show proof they are actually U.S. citizen. Further, the Motor Voter Act— the National Voter Registration Act— limits the state’s ability to “determine and collect the information necessary for determining and checking citizenship.”

“They’re literally bifurcated because they want to ensure citizenship for their state and local elections, but they’re not allowed to for federal elections. Therefore, we need to fix the problem,” he continued.

Roy said there’s a “glitch” in the way elections maneuver non-citizens voting, and that the SAVE Act would combat it.

“By doing that, though, it is correcting the glitch. It also goes through and it addresses some of the issues that have been complicated,” he said. “There are states, for example, like North Dakota, which does not have voter registration at all, okay? So they can just show up to vote and don’t have registration…They have their own rules there about what you have to present in order just to vote. And that’s obviously a less populated state than, say, California or Texas or New York or Florida. But, so, we adapt and try to adjust to help with those kinds of situations. But, overall, the purpose of the bill is exactly as you just described, pretty simple.”
