Romney began his remarks this afternoon with a joke about President Obama, saying the president deserved an Olympic skiing gold medal for his astonishing downhill streak. (zing!)

In this observer's opinion, Romney struck a particularly presidential tone, setting forth a clear line of attack on Obama's various agenda blunders. At the root of the president's failures, Romney said, is Obama's failure to understand America. "Obamacare is bad care for America."
Romney was also quick to defend the tarnished legacy of former President George W. Bush. Romney said he is "convinced that history will judge President Bush far more kindly" than Obama and late night comedians have, siting Bush's success in keeping America safe.
Romney's remarks focused largely on Obama's failure to help America's struggling economy: "He has prolonged the recession, expanded the pain of unemployment and added to the debt of future generations. The Obama, Pelosi, Reid team has failed the American people."

The former governor concluded by saying that the American people are looking to conservatives for leadership. "Truth trumps hope," he said. "The truth is that government is not the solution to all of our problems."
"America's pioneering spirit is what drives us forward," Romney concluded. "Rather than apologizing for who we are, we will celebrate our nation for its strength and greatness."
