Liberals Attack Giuliani, Claim He Forgot 9/11?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: liberals never cease to amaze me. Their latest bloodthirsty rant concerns a George Stephanopoulos interview with former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani from Friday's

Good Morning America. Giuliani was commenting on the current state of U.S. homeland security in the wake of an attempted terrorist attack of the Christmas holiday and the Obama administration's response (or lack thereof) to terrorist threats. Bloggers and news pundits alike are attacking the mayor for saying the following:

What [Obama] should be doing is following the right things that Bush did. One of the right things he did was treat this as a War on Terror. We had no domestic attacks under Bush. We’ve had one under Obama.

Anyone with any sense at all would interpret Giuliani's comments to be in reference to the time following the attacks of September 11, 2001 and policies the Bush administration put in place to prevent a similar attack. This group of well-sensed people would ostensibly include Stephanopoulos who did not even flinch at Giuliani's misstatement.

To suggest that Rudy Giuliani OF ALL PEOPLE would forget the attacks of 9/11 is utterly asinine.

Still, bloggers and the MSM alike are having a field day with the mayor's comments. One Associated Press article callously observed that Giuliani "somehow neglected to mention" the attacks of 9/11.

And between breaking "news" stories about Kate Gosselin's hair extensions and "Lindsay Lohan's Fall from Private Jet to Commercial Airline", the Huffington Post sarcastically joked that they were "pretty certain" there was "at least one" attack during Bush's term in office, linking readers to a Wikipedia article on September 11. HuffPo also compared Giuliani's comments to "Indiana Jones telling you, 'Ark of the what, now? Sorry, that doesn't ring a bell.'" Nice.

Giuliani's people quickly tried to smother the non-story. The mayor's spokesperson said that the remark "didn't come across as it was intended" and that Giuliani was "clearly talking post-9/11 with regards to Islamic terrorist attacks on our soil." End of story? If only...

Critics also pointed to attempted shoe bomber Richard Reid who tried and failed to detonate a bomb aboard an airliner during Bush's term. I'd imagine Giuliani would classify Reid's case as an attempt and not an attack. If he had been talking about attempts and attacks jointly, then Giuliani obviously would've said there have been two attacks on U.S. soil during Obama's term and not just one: the Ft. Hood shooting and the Christmas Day Detroit bomber.

But clearly in this case, as in others, logic and facts fly out the window and liberals desperately grasp for a negative attack on a decent man and dedicated public servant like Giuliani. Forget the actual point he was trying to make... he misspoke and that's all the news story will focus on.
