Scott was a long-time friend of Mayor Richard Daley and had been appointed by the mayor to head up the city's education board. Scott was also a member of Daley's Chicago Olympic bid committee and was heavily scrutinized earlier this year about "Olympics-related real estate dealings" his real estate company stood to make millions from.
Scott is the third prominent Chicago political official to have committed suicide in the past two years alone.
