Smells Like Failure

The Toronto Star is reporting today that General Motors--yes, the same General Motors that required a bailout, bankruptcy and now the backing of the U.S. government--will soon be entering the market once again: not to sell cars, but to try their hand in the bustling industry of men's fragrances!

I wish I were joking.  "It's the luminous fresh scent from grapefruit and camomile and a mix of geranium, tarragon and cinnamon – plus sweet spice and incense."  Mmmm, very manly!

Beauty Contact Inc., the Dubai-based cosmetic company that holds the fragrance license, plans to launch the Cadillac fragrance line this fall to mark the brand's 100th anniversary.  Apparently this isn't GM's first attempt to spread its scent: in the past, the company has also licensed fragrances for Hummer, Chevy and Corvette.
