Rep. llhan Omar (D-MN) is doing what she does best: ruffle the feathers of everyone and peddling her anti-Semitic agenda on the Hill. She’s trash. Pure and simple, but sits on the House Foreign Relations Committee, which brought forward a non-binding resolution condemning the anti-Israel Boycotts, Divestment, and Sanctions movement. Omar, in true fashion, defended the movement and compared it to the Boston Tea Party. She also referred to Israel as an occupier regarding the current state of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Israel is our best ally in the Mid East; a beacon of hope, freedom & liberty, surrounded by existential threats. Shame on Rep @Ilhan Omar for bringing her hateful twist on that reality to House Foreign today, propping up the BDS movement & blaming Israel for all of its challenges pic.twitter.com/y975D0JCaC— Lee Zeldin (@RepLeeZeldin) July 17, 2019
Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) wasn’t having any of her nonsense, but it didn’t stop her from introducing a resolution that counters the one passed by the committee. The BDS crew was quite pleased (via NRO):
We are introducing a resolution . . . to really speak about the American values that support and believe in our ability to exercise our first amendment rights in regard to boycotting,” Omar told Al-Monitor. “And it is an opportunity for us to explain why it is we support a nonviolent movement, which is the BDS movement.”
The announcement comes on the same day that the House Foreign Affairs Committee, on which Omar sits, plans to vote on another non-binding resolution explicitly condemning the BDS movement as an attempt to “undermine the two state solution” by demanding “concessions of one party alone and encourag[ing] Palestinians to reject negotiations in favor of international pressure.”
The anti-BDS resolution further notes that the movement’s founder, Omar Bharghouti, has openly dismissed the possibility of reaching any settlement that allows the state of Israel to retain its sovereignty.
Omar is expected to cast the lone vote against the anti-BDS resolution, further highlighting the divide between herself and the panel’s older, more-established lawmakers, who have condemned her comments about Israel in the past.
Great News! @HouseForeign just passed HRes246 opposing the BDS movement, which is a blatantly anti-Israel & anti-Semitic effort that targets Israel & the Jewish people. The full House should pass this reso ASAP & then do something about it by passing S-1/HR336 as well!— Lee Zeldin (@RepLeeZeldin) July 17, 2019
The BDS movement for Palestinian rights warmly welcomes the resolution introduced by Congress members Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and US civil rights veteran John Lewis "Affirming that all Americans have the right to participate in boycotts in pursuit of civil and human rights.” pic.twitter.com/G1ZDpRjgwd— BDS movement (@BDSmovement) July 17, 2019
Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and John Lewis intro a resolution affirming Americans' right to participate in boycotts — clearly meant to counter laws restricting participation in the Israel boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement https://t.co/s3cTpkTGeo— Jessica Schulberg (@jessicaschulb) July 17, 2019
Hey, this is on you, Democrats. You refused to condemn anti-Semitism in a meaningful way. Omar has accused those of supporting Israel of exhibiting dual loyalty and now she’s running wild with her total garbage views on Israel, a nation that she accused of hypnotizing the world to its evil. She hates Jews. She hates Israel. And her reference to the so-called occupation is a dead giveaway. Also, BDS will never be anything like the Boston Tea Party. Only someone who is historically illiterate can reach that conclusion or someone who wants to stay in the spotlight. With Omar, it’s probably a bit of both.
Oh, and she knows what BDS stands for...she ran away from CNN when pressed about it:
