The Democrats' Sandinista Wing Is Lining Up: NYC Mayor Won't Rule Out 2020 Run

Well, we knew that the Democratic field in 2020 was going to be crowded. It was going to be filled by everyone. From Julian Castro to Sen. Liz Warren (D-MA), Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), every so-called up-and-coming Democrats thinks they have a shot to take on President Trump in the next presidential election. It remains to be seen. Gabbard and Castro are lightweights with zero constituencies. Harris has a problem with the Bernie Sanders wing of the party. And Warren won’t be able to appeal to voters who aren’t super liberal and super condescending.

Oh, there are some other names too I forgot to mention: Sens. Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) and Cory Booker (D-NJ). Booker is a discount Obama. Gillibrand is not known past the Catskill Mountains. Geographic rigidity is the characteristic here. Who knows Cory Booker outside of Jersey, specifically Newark? The only people who have national name recognition are Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and Hillary Clinton. Besides their combined age matching that of Methuselah, Clinton is supposedly done. Sanders might run into trouble with this past inaction on the rampant sexism and sexual harassment that infested his 2016 campaign. And Biden, well, ran twice, and lost…twice. Hey, Hillary Clinton and Biden both share that achievement. It’s a very left wing, coastal, and Northeastern pool and it could be even more radical if New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio jumps into the ring. He didn’t say he would rule it out (via Washington Times):

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio would not rule out a 2020 run for the White House on Sunday, but he said his party could be “a lot bolder.”

“I’m focused on the job I have,” the Democratic mayor said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“Right now, our party is going through a serious debate, and there are still a lot of moderate voices in the party who did not learn the lessons of 2016,”Mr. de Blasio added.

He said his party should speak to working-class voters about getting them adequate health care coverage.

Oh, this tickles me. Billy, those working-class voters broke for Trump. Also, your party hates these people. They’re not educated enough. They don’t live in the areas that matter. They’re cancers in your eyes. It’s all right; I view all of liberal America as cancer. And by “a lot bolder,” you know he means a hard left turn in the likes of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. As Jay Caruso noted, if he does run, the Democrats have their Sandinista wing lined up.
