DHS Cyber Division Director: Russia Didn’t Alter Vote Counts During 2016 Election

Katie and Cortney wrote about former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson revealing that when hackers infiltrated the servers at the Democratic National Committee, they refused help from DHS. Well, for a party that rails against Russia 24/7, this is a rather odd event in the timeline. You’re mad about that your servers were broken into, you blame Russia, you think that they, besides former FBI Director James Comey, cost Hillary Clinton the election, but you refused to let people who could have helped you through the front door? Is this a tacit acknowledgement that the infiltration and its impact on the election weren’t that big of a deal? Okay—maybe it was, but this is not proof of an election hack, which has been peddled endlessly in the liberal news media. That would mean the Russians messed with vote tallies; an event that the DHS’ cyber division chief said did not occur.

The Russian cyber actors reportedly targeted twenty-one states, but Samuel Liles, the acting director of the DHS Cyber Division, said that a) vote tallying irregularities that could impact an election would have been detected; and b) of those systems targeted, “none of these systems were involved in vote tallying.”

“We had no indication prior to the election that adversaries were planning cyber operations against election infrastructure that would change the outcome of the 2016 election,” he added.

Also, former DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson also said no vote tallies were tampered with on Election Day. Then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch said no “technical interference” occurred on election night. Also, the DHS and intelligence officials noted there was no “increased level of malicious cyberactivity aimed at disrupting our electoral process on Election Day.”
