Has Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez matured from his profanity-lace rants on the road? He’s been caught trashing the Republican budget as “s***ty” and said that the GOP doesn’t “give a s**t about people.” CBS’ John Dickerson chastised the newly elected DNC chair for his antics asking, “If you oppose a president for his coarseness, why would you imitate it?” Dickerson aptly noted that Trump’s primary opponents tried to get into the gutter with him, which proved to be a disastrous decision.
At an event with the Aspen Institute in Washington D.C., Perez said, “what we have to do as the Democratic Party is not simply say what we’re against, and what Donald Trump is doing wrong. I totally agree that we have to articulate what we are for and what we will do and what we are doing," which (so far) is losing elections.
Well, that’s quite the 180-degree turn. Will it last remains to be seen, as we saw with the complete collapse of the “when they go low, we go high” rallying cry by former first lady Michelle Obama.
Besides receiving a reprimand from the media, Perez hasn’t been received warmly by Democrats. He headlined a Democratic unity tour last month, with non-Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), where he bore the brunt of boos and jeers from the hyper progressive crowds. And he may be right, but for now—the Democratic Party stands for nothing other than going rabid over every thing the Trump White House does. Has it been effective? No. Democrats have been shut out in the off-year elections so far.
