Republican Congressman: I Don't Think We're Having A Vote On Health Care Today

Cortney wrote about how members of the House Freedom Caucus are still not convinced to back the American Health Care Act, even after a meeting with President Trump. They left the meeting with no deal. Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN) told Roll Call that he doesn’t think that a vote on health care will be held today, but could be held on Friday. Yet, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) said he thinks some movement could happen on this legislation later tonight:

“It didn’t look like today was going to be the vote,” said the Tennessee Republican.

He anticipated a vote on Friday instead. The news came after a meeting with committee chairs held by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Roe said a potential new provision that would repeal the essential health benefits would be limited to the individual market population that doesn’t get insurance through their jobs or a government program.

The requirements would remain in place for everyone else, Roe said, according to an outline of the negotiations from McCarthy.

House Freedom Caucus members returning from a meeting at the White House said no deal has been reached, but Mark Meadows the group’s chairman said he believes they can get somewhere by 7 p.m. tonight.

Cortney added that Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) said that if a vote here held today, the bill wouldn’t pass.
