Sleep Tight: Feds Have Lost Close To 1,000 Guns Since 2006

The federal government has doled out over $1 billion on firearms and ammunition since 2006, and they’ve lost 985 of them. Some of the missing firearms include Uzis and grenade launchers. As Paul Bedard at The Washington Examiner wrote:

In a hearing to urge tightened controls of weapons, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said, "The loss of single firearm is cause for concern – the loss of what amounts to roughly five a month is unacceptable."

[…]

In his opening statement, Chaffetz detailed the list of weapons missing and the money spent on guns and ammo by the federal government. From his statement:

[…]

GSA [General Services Administration] was trying to maintain an inventory of surplus firearms around the country with only an excel and it lost 485 firearms, including grenade launchers, Uzis, and assault rifles.

Bedard added that the hearing was held after the allegation that the firearm used to kill Kate Steinle in San Francisco by an illegal alien was assigned to a federal officer.

This isn’t the first time federal officers have lost their government-issued firearms. In 2014, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed that ATF agents lose their guns all the time in bars, bathroom stalls, movie theaters, and hospitals. In one instance, an agent left his sidearm on top of the car (forgot it was still there) and drove off. So, sleep tight, folks. Oh, and these are the people who would enforce new gun control measures.
