PA College Students Demand Building Be Renamed Over The Word ‘Lynch’

Well, the campaign of political correctness is still running strong. More college campuses are entertaining these insane demands from their student bodies, which is really just an exercise for ungrateful undergraduates to whine, while ignoring the fact that they’re privileged to be attending an institution that could prove valuable in their career pursuits. But that’s for another time. For now, the students at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania renamed a building because the Lynch Memorial Hall, named after the former president of the school, invokes “racial connotations.”

No–I’m not making this up, and they gave the current president a list of demands last week as well (via Penn Live) [emphasis mine]:

The demands — announced at the end of Friday's meeting and promptly handed to the university's president, Dr. Lewis Thayne — include calls for a more diverse curriculum; removing or altering the name "Lynch" in the college's "Lynch Memorial Hall" due to the word's racial connotations; more sensitivity training for staff; diversity workshops; regular surveys of the racial climate on campus; facilities recognizing varied gender identities and disabilities; and clearer protocols for officials in responding to allegations and acts of bias.

President Thayne said he was taking the list under consideration and looked forward to an opportunity to discuss it further with students. Some of the proposed changes, he added, are "instep with those already being discussed by the administration."

Dr. Thayne is expected to address the issue at the college's third annual Symposium on Inclusive Excellence on Jan. 21, 2016.

As Mediaite’s Alex Griswold noted, Lynch is the 235th most common last name; our Attorney General’s last name is Lynch. The hall is named after Clyde A. Lynch, and that somehow is connected to the vicious string of extrajudicial killings that swept the South during Reconstruction. Yeah, it’s pure madness.
