It's Done: Trump Signs No Third Party Pledge With RNC

The speculation is over. Donald Trump has signed a pledge to not run as a third party candidate, and to support the Republican nominee whoever that may be in the end. Right now, he’s leading in the polls, but we have a long ways to go until the Iowa Caucuses in February.

Benny Johnson at IJ Review wrote that for those pointing to the incorrect date on the pledge in Trump’s hand could mean three things:

  1. Trump and RNC reached an agreement last month on him not running as a third party candidate
  2. Trump could be dangling a “null and void agreement.”
  3. The billionaire actually got the dates wrong.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Trump was reconsidering the pledge. He famously refused to honor a similar statement that was pitched to him by Fox News' Bret Baier at the beginning of the first GOP debate, which drew boos from the audience.  Mr. Trump said that he's "totally pledging my allegiance to the Republican Party and the conservative principles for which it stands" (via NPR):

Trump said he has "no intention" of changing his mind about the pledge, because the Republican Party had treated him very fairly since his June 16 announcement.

"I see no circumstances under which I would tear up that pledge," he said.
