Stimulus Support Will Preclude Club for Growth Award

In addition to Majority Leader John Boehner urging Republican Congressmen to vote against the stimulus, the powerful Club For Growth is also trying to pressure legislators to vote no.

In a press release this morning, The Club announced that any congressman who votes for the bill will be disqualified from receiving the Club's "Defender of Economic Freedom" Award in the year 2009.

The award usually goes to members of Congress who score above 90 on the Club's yearly scorecard, but in this case the stimulus vote will be weighted so heavily that it will be impossible for any "yes" voter to get the title.

The Club is one of the nation's top fiscal conservative organizations, and their endorsement matters a lot in Republican primaries...
