It's not news that the Bush Administration is not on great terms with the New York Times. However, it looks as if the animosity has finally boiled over as a result of Saturday's

5,000 word article blaming the mortgage crisis on Bush's philosophy. In response, the White House fired off not one, but two strongly worded refutations, which Politico's Mike Allen described as "blistering". I have to say, they were quite entertaining - here are a few of the best shots:

"Most people can accept that a news story recounting recent events will be reliant on '20-20 hindsight'. Today's front-page New York Times story relies on hindsight with blinders on and one eye closed."

"The Times' 'reporting' in this story amounted to finding selected quotes to support a story the reporters fully intended to write from the onset, while disregarding anything that didn't fit their point of view"
